Chapter 3929: Temporal Shroud
The moth was surrounded by countless Allsenses, though it was unclear what they were doing.
"Is that the creature behind everything?" Yu asked as he stared in awe.
Ming Zhuo's expression turned grave. "Be careful. This thing makes me feel extremely uneasy."
Lu Yin said, "Let's see what it's doing. We don’t need to act rashly."
Even if the moth exuded a heavy pressure, it was far inferior to the Immortal monster that Lu Yin had faced before.
Even that Immortal beast had failed to defeat Lu Yin, which meant that the moth stood even less of a chance.
At the very least, Lu Yin did not feel any sort of life-threatening danger from the moth, though a clear sliver of risk was certainly present.
The three men fell silent and quietly observed the massive creature.
After more than half a month, they finally understood the situation.
The moth fed on something that it extracted from the Allsenses, while the creatures were gathering something from the depths of the flowers.
As for the flowers’ growth, that also stemmed from the Allsenses.
Masses of Allsenses would pour into the flowers and be devoured, only for new ones to gather something from the flowers that was then delivered to the moth, which absorbed the substance.
It was a closed loop, but no matter how they looked at it, the situation resembled a miniature ecosystem.
However, how were the Allsenses born?
The men were prepared to continue watching, only for the moth to suddenly vanish without even the slightest warning.
"Where did it go?" Ming Zhuo exclaimed in surprise. Suddenly, an overwhelming force pulled on his body and flung him aside. Yu was also hurled away by an irresistible power. Right where the two had been standing, space collapsed, and the moth descended. Its body shifted from the void into the regular universe before returning to the void, causing it to vanish once more.
Ming Zhuo looked down; his left arm was gone. The moth had merely brushed against his arm, but it had disappeared entirely.
If he had not been tossed aside so quickly, his entire body would have vanished.
A peak Dukkhan had almost been erased in an instant.
Yu had not fared any better, as his legs were gone.
Only Lu Yin remained unscathed. He had flung both Ming Zhuo and Yu away; both would have died without his intervention.
The moth had noticed the three humans long ago and had simply been pretending to be asleep. It had been waiting for them to lower their guard before striking.
"You two go. I'll handle this," Lu Yin whispered.
Ming Zhuo and Yu did not hesitate at all. They quickly tore through the void and fled. They knew that they were no match for the moth.
Lu Yin stood in place, his expression grave. A creature that defied logic? That simply meant that it followed a logic that exceeded the scope of human understanding. The cosmos was vast, and there were many things that exceeded one’s imagination. Not even Immortals could fathom all of the inconceivable lifeforms that might exist.
The moth was able to erase whatever it touched. In other words, it was similar to an enlarged Allsense. However, while Allsenses could use sound or other channels to attack lifeforms, the moth did not need any such thing. It simply needed to make contact with a lifeform, and then that lifeform... ceased to be.
It was nearly impossible to counter such an attack.
When humans fought each other, Realmbreakers were considered extraordinary. A genius might be able to fight someone one major realm above them, while Lu Yin was able to cross several realms, though that was practically unprecedented throughout history. However, that was also only when fighting against other humans. In the scope of the entire cosmos, there were strange creatures like the Allsenses, which had no need for power that crossed realms as they could unleash irresistible attacks.
It was as Ming Zhuo and others had said before; they were not afraid of formidable opponents that they could see, such as those from the Skyveil Megaverse, but rather strange, mysterious foes.
Lu Yin retreated as the invisible moth swept by him. It was not in the same dimension as Lu Yin.
The moth turned to attack Lu Yin again, only to be met head-on by a terrifying amount of consciousness and manifested thought. Lu Yin used Word Manifestation. “Stop.”
A single word caused the moth to freeze. Its massive, compound eyes stared at Lu Yin. Even if its gaze was devoid of emotions, its wings trembled violently, making its anxiousness readily apparent. It had just been restrained.
No sapient creature could avoid Word Manifestation, unless they were at a level of existence that exceeded Lu Yin’s.
The invisible moth clearly did not surpass Lu Yin on an existential level.
Lu Yin examined the enormous creature before him. Had Ming Zhuo and Yu witnessed this scene, they would have been even more shocked. Just a touch from this moth had erased parts of their bodies, and yet Lu Yin had forced it to a halt.
The creature looked a great deal like a moth, but it was entirely transparent. It intermittently glowed internally, and it was able to freely move through the void and erase body parts upon contact. It fed on whatever substance the Allsenses gathered from the flowers like pollen. It was extremely powerful.
Lu Yin could sense strong ripples of manifested thought. The moth was resisting, but Word Manifestation meant that neither the moth’s consciousness nor its manifested thought could defy him.
The moth’s consciousness and manifested thought were pathetic compared to Lu Yin’s, which were truly monstrous.
"I know that you can understand me. Lower your defenses and stop resisting, or die," Lu Yin calmly ordered.
The moth’s wings simply quivered faster. The creature was incredibly nervous and on edge. It wanted nothing more than to attack, but it had been suppressed.
Lu Yin frowned and raised a hand to flick his finger. Terrifying power shot out, piercing through both space and the moth’s body, before ripping open a dark rift in the distance.
The moth’s compound eyes quivered as it released a piercing screech.
"Next time, it’ll be your head," Lu Yin warned.
Like the Allsenses, the moth’s defenses were quite pitiful. It was no wonder why it had hidden itself and the Mother Tree here.
As long as Ming Zhuo and the others could avoid being touched by the creature, they also possessed the strength to take it down.
Lu Yin's threat worked. The moth’s trembling wings grew still. Its eyes locked onto him, and the creature gradually calmed down.
Lu Yin studied the moth carefully, focusing on its carapace.
How did it erase things on contact?
Lu Yin approached the moth and examined the surface of its body. What he found was not chaotic space, but rather chaotic time. The creature was shrouded in chaotic time, as though it was wearing a garment woven from the power of time itself, and wildly chaotic time at that.
Yes, it’s chaos.
Lu Yin understood. The moth was not capable of genuinely erasing body parts. Rather, whatever it touched was displaced into a random temporal state due to the chaotic time. The object might reappear the very next moment, or possibly never again.
So, it’s an attack with the power of time.
Lu Yin was stunned. The River of Aeons had been anchored to the Tianyuan Megaverse, which meant that it should have been impossible for creatures outside of that megaverse to possess such an impressive mastery of the power of time. While there were many powerful cultivators capable of incorporating the power of time into their attacks, they were all incapable of reversing time, tracing it, or seeing into the past or future. That was all because the River of Aeons was confined to the Tianyuan Megaverse.
Despite that, the transparent moth was capable of doing exactly that. Either it was an existence that transcended such boundaries and was able to touch the River of Aeons, or the River of Aeons in the Tianyuan Megaverse was not a unique existence.
Long ago, Lu Yin had started to question if the River of Aeons in the Tianyuan was a truly unique existence. While that had initially been mere conjecture, after entering the Nine Odysseys Megaverse and seeing the Aevum Inch, he had learned how even that megaverse had once faced something that had threatened its existence and how only the black black Mother Tree had managed to avert disaster. After that, Lu Yin had become certain that the River of Aeons was not unique.
No matter how powerful Mister Mu might be, it was impossible for him to have confined the one and only River of Aeons to the Tianyuan Megaverse.
Lu Yin refused to believe that there were no Immortals who had surpassed Mister Mu’s mastery over the power of time. Even if there were no humans who surpassed him, there had to be other species in the cosmos that did.
The transparent moth was one such existence that had mastered the power of time to a terrifying level.
It had crafted a nearly invincible cloak of time. That, combined with its own innate transparency, meant that it could instantaneously kill almost any creature in existence.
Immortals were the most powerful living creatures known, while directly below them was someone like Lu Yin, whose strength had reached an extreme. Further down were those like Ming Zhuo, the peak Dukkhans.
The fact that not even they were able to withstand the moth’s ability demonstrated its terrifying power.
There were very few creatures in the entire cosmos that were capable of countering the moth. Wherever it appeared, disaster followed.
With that thought, a flash of killing intent appeared in Lu Yin’s eyes.
Just then, countless Allsenses appeared in all directions, and they flooded towards Lu Yin like a tide.
He casually waved a hand, destroying the void and annihilating countless of them.
In front of him, the transparent moth suddenly pulled back. Lu Yin attacked with a palm strike. The terrifying force should have shattered the outside of the moth’s body, but an inexplicable power blocked the attack. Lu Yin’s palm strike never landed.
Countless Allsenses surged through the void. They swarmed around the transparent moth, completely engulfing its massive form.
Lu Yin had no idea what the creature wanted to do, but it was not necessary to know. The Tri-Azure Sword Intent appeared behind him, and the attacks instantly slashed out, forming a rain of slashes that swept towards the moth.
As the rain of sword attacks fell, countless Allsenses were obliterated. The transparent moth lifted its wings and flapped them violently. Gales swept through the world, scattering the slashes.
“Stop,” Lu Yin shouted in a cold voice, using the power of Word Manifestation.
This time, it failed.
Lu Yin’s expression changed. How was this even possible? He had already shrouded the moth with his consciousness and manifested thought, and only then had he used Word Manifestation to order it to stop. Despite that, he had still failed. He could not sense the slightest hint of thought from the moth.
It seemed to have become a hollow shell. The moth’s thoughts had been transferred somewhere else.
How is that possible?
Lu Yin suddenly looked at the nearby Allsenses which were now scattering. The creatures had dispersed the moth’s thoughts. Much like when he had tried to devour Yue Ya’s manifested thought, Yue Ya had dispersed it into countless streams, which had made it nearly impossible for Lu Yin to devour it.
However, Yue Ya had been a creature of pure manifested thought, while the transparent moth was not.
Could it be... that its body and its thoughts can be separated?
As Lu Yin considered the situation, the moth's wings started beating even more intensely. He was no longer able to even release the Tri-Azure Sword Intent.
He stepped forward, his hand upraised. A terrifying power shot forward, and the sky and the ground suddenly switched places as the transparent moth was smashed down. It crashed into the flowers, only to be crushed beneath them. Despite its terrifying power, it was unable to stand up to Lu Yin’s strength.
Suddenly, feeling a sharp chill, Lu Yin shifted away just in time. At the point he had abandoned, the void, the flowers, the flowing time, and even space itself froze in place for an instant before shattering like glass.
Right below that was the transparent moth’s compound eye.
Lu Yin looked down, and the moth stared up at him.
He instinctively dodged, but the eye remained fixed on him. Lu Yin evaded several times more before suddenly slamming into something. It was the void that had once been frozen and then shattered. Had it become solid?
The moth’s compound eyes quivered, and from them, space itself solidified, trapping Lu Yin within the frozen void, leaving him unable to move.
The next instant, the void started to shatter.
Lu Yin stared as the cracks drew closer. Infinity surged through his body while Heaven's Seal’s sequence particles spread out. His hand rose, and he tore everything apart.
