North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 343: 300 Investigations and Inquiries

After Ruiz was taken away by the ambulance, Jimmy immediately called Hughes, "Hughes, MS13 has kidnapped our surveillance team. Ruiz and I came to negotiate with them, and a gunfight broke out. Ruiz has been shot in the abdomen and has been sent to the hospital. We need others here to help collect evidence."

Without waiting for Hughes to ask, Jimmy blurted out everything and then waited for Hughes's instructions.

Hughes said, "You wait at the scene for now. Special Agent Ryan Phillips will come with people to take over, and then you come back immediately." After that, Hughes hung up the phone.

Jimmy puckered his lips. A probationary agent has no rights, huh? Not allowing me to wrap up the case I was involved in. But it's true, better to be cautious. However, who is this Ryan Phillips? I've never seen him before.

Jimmy and a few NYPD officers stayed at the scene to guard it. The three kidnapped surveillance team members also stayed behind, waiting for the follow-up personnel to take over and make their statements.

About half an hour later, several cars stopped outside the bar, and a cool-looking middle-aged man with short hair walked in with a few people.

"Who is Jimmy?"

Jmmy raised his hand and waved, "Me."

Ryan shook hands with Jimmy, "Ryan Phillips, from the Queens office. How's it going here?" He then looked around, surveying the room behind Jimmy. Quite a scene. At a glance, there were three people lying on the ground, and another two further away.

"It's best that you're taking over. Hughes is still waiting for me to report back, and these three are the members of the surveillance team kidnapped by MS13. They're in your hands now," said Jimmy.

Ryan waved his hand, "Hurry back. I'll take care of the rest."

Jimmy replied, "OK, goodbye."

Jimmy straightened his clothes, left the bar, and stepped onto the street, which had already been cordoned off by NYPD. Jimmy had to walk to the corner to hail a taxi back to Manhattan.

Knock knock, Jimmy knocked on Hughes's door.

Hughes said, "Come in, close the door!" Jimmy entered the office and casually shut the glass door behind him.

Hughes asked, "So, what exactly happened? How did you end up going with Ruiz?"

Jimmy explained, "Ruiz had set up a surveillance team to monitor an MS13 location, but then he suddenly lost contact with them. He thought it was possible that MS13 had discovered the surveillance team, so there was a need to negotiate.

Before he contacted me, Ruiz had already called SWAT in advance, but in the end, they weren't needed."

Jimmy recounted the entire incident from beginning to end, of course, he had to state that he only took action after hearing gunfire from inside the room. He was very concerned about Ruiz's safety.

After listening, Hughes said, "You go rest for now. Wait for the call to participate in the inquiry, which will be in the next couple of days. You can go."

Without saying much more, Jimmy obediently opened the door and left Hughes's office to head home.

Watching Jimmy leave the office, Hughes clenched his right fist and punched the desk. He had planned to leave Jimmy hanging for a while longer, but Ruiz's call had scuttled his plans. He glanced at the time, stood up to put on his suit jacket, and left the office to check the hospital.

Jones's desk was not far downstairs. He watched as Jimmy returned and went into Hughes's office. Soon after, he saw Jimmy leave, followed quickly by Hughes. The spirit of gossip immediately arose in him.

Jones took a couple of steps upstairs, knocked on Peter's door, and, after entering, he casually closed the door behind him.

Jones spoke in a low voice, "Peter, it seems like something else has happened with Jimmy."

Peter looked up at him, "What is it now?"

Jones replied, "He just came back and went straight to Hughes, then they left one after the other."

Peter was silent for a moment, then said, "It's none of our business, get back to work."

Jones turned, pulled open the door, and exited. However, Peter began to ponder what could be so urgent to make Hughes leave in a rush, especially something involving Jimmy. It didn't seem like a small matter.

After resting at home for a while, Jimmy went to take a shower. The routine was all too familiar, even though he had never experienced this at the FBI, his early days as a county police officer involved many inquiries, which were no big deal.

Jimmy rested well that night, preparing to reconnect with the real estate agent the next day. Now back in Manhattan, it was time to find a place of his own. Who doesn't want their own house?

The next day, Hughes met Special Agent Ryan Phillips from the Queens office in his office. This case was not supposed to reach Hughes's level; Agent Phillips could have handled it directly. However, since it involved his subordinates, Ruiz and Jimmy, he had to be briefed on the case in advance and arrange the inquiry matters.

Agent Phillips brought a lot of things with him this time, including two crucial videotapes. Jimmy didn't expect the bar to have surveillance cameras not only at the entrance but also inside the hall, and there was one in each corner, recording everything that happened.

Hughes first understood the situation on the ground with Phillips, as well as the condition of the three kidnapped surveillance team members, then went to the conference room with Phillips, which was equipped to play the video tapes.

Since Peter's office was right next to the conference room, hearing about such an event, he naturally got involved and watched the tape as well.

The surveillance didn't capture sound, which was strange. Gang surveillance being this low-end was unexpected. Supposedly if they could set up a surveillance center, they wouldn't skimp on money for better equipment. Phillips also confirmed this: intelligence personnel had checked the system and confirmed it recorded only images, no audio.
