Chapter 4575: Clash Of Calamities
Davis looked ahead.
Towards the right, there was a strange river that seemed to be a floating mass of water and metal energy. Towards the left, the mountainous cliffs blocked his path. He could certainly climb it, but would be caught within seconds and burned.
Therefore, Davis had no choice but to enter this territory.
He entered the coastal line and dashed straight towards the dark hill. As he made his way towards it, a vague sound abruptly overcame him from behind.
"Zuuu~"
The False Dawn Harbinger growled, and its power radiated further.
’Fuck, it wants to stop me before I get there...!’
Davis inwardly growled. He no longer reserved his essence energy and used his full speed. He turned around, punching out to propel himself backward, and at the same time, kicked up a mountain from the coastal range using earthen martial energy, trying to block its pursuit. He used the hill environment as an advantage.
He turned around and dashed again, mustering the greatest speed possible for his current self.
*Sssss!~*
The mountain he summoned seemed pretty useless as the False Dawn Harbinger pretty much melted through it within seconds. It barely stopped it for two seconds.
However, it gave Davis the time to maintain a lead.
He was almost near the dark hill.
His vision was abruptly caught sight of something in the dark hill.
’This... this is... an Eternal Eclipse Bird!’
The Eternal Eclipse Bird was perched on the spiky rocks of the dark hill. It opened its eyes from its eternal slumber.
Its head resembled no bird’s, but a skeletal visage of obsidian, with twin crescents for eyes, one waxing and one waning, glowing with silver-black radiance. They pulsed in unnatural rhythm, like the resonance of a falling dead moon. When its beak opened, it wasn’t a mouth but a rift in existence, bleeding lunar light that corroded the ground into ash and sand into liquid shadow.
It was a Void Calamity, having the terrifying power to blot out the Solar Reverence in a realm and amplify the Lunar Reverence’s power to be toxic and corrosive, giving the lifeforms below its shine a sickness called the Lunar Shadow Bleeding Sickness. It means whenever they come across the lunar light or the shadow, their skin would burst open and start to bleed endlessly unless they could receive the light of the sun.
’This clash is inevitable...’
Davis wryly laughed, but he headed straight, arriving at the dark hill.
The False Dawn Harbinger descended with its four wings spread wide, blazing light that erupted like a newborn star, a force that sought to erase all shadows. The Eternal Eclipse Bird screeched, a sound so low and resonant that Davis’s organs quivered, blood threatening to rupture from his pores.
Darkness surged, a tide of lunar venom clashing against false dawn, blotting out its light and even the suns in the skies.
*Vrmmm!~*
The collision was indescribable.
Light and darkness didn’t merely meet. They annihilated, and from their annihilation, everything was extinguished. The edge of the hills evaporated into dust finer than one could see with the naked eye. The coastal side of the river boiled into oblivion. Space cracked, and fissures spread across the dark hill.
Davis had no time to flee.
His body and soul were swallowed by darkness.
The two Realm Calamities clashed and surged upwards. The Eternal Eclipse Bird was the first one to leave, and the False Dawn Harbinger followed suit. Both of them sounded incensed for their own reasons as they took the battle to the skies.
*Huff!~*
Davis gasped. His eyes snapped open, lungs dragging hot air. Sand shifted beneath and above him as he crawled out of the very spot where he had kicked up a mountain to block the False Dawn Harbinger.
His heart thundered violently.
He didn’t think switching with his avatar at that last second would really work. The moment he switched, he also used Misdirection to keep the False Dawn Harbinger’s gaze on his avatar. But in the end, he guessed the reason why he hadn’t been found was- he gazed at the sand that glimmered, picked up a handful before his gaze twitched.
’This sand has concealment properties... which means...’
Davis instantly jumped and ran back. When he looked back, a terrifying maw open with ripped jaws and spiky-razor sharp teeth threatened to swallow him whole, but it had been too late, likely also disturbed by the concealment property of the sand.
He thought it was a sandworm of some sort, but it turned out to be the Endless Maw Behemoth that was a mere infant.
Its entire body was a maw, a Realm Calamity that could grow up to a continent-sized beast, capable of swallowing mountains into pits of crushing gravity.
"Don’t think a mere infant calamity like you could play with me!"
Davis pointed at it and left it in the dust. It was merely a Low-Level Empyrean lifeform. He could kill it easily, but the last thing he wanted to do was delay and get caught by the False Dawn Harbinger or the Eternal Eclipse Bird.
The Endless Maw Behemoth was unable to catch up to him, so he didn’t feel the need to fight it.
He quickly made his way back while collecting some sand across his path. He didn’t know what it was, but considering it didn’t even burn against the False Dawn Harbinger’s silver flames, he considered it could be a Low-Level or even Mid-Level Primarch Grade resource.
He left a tiny trail in his wake but didn’t care, as the coastal area was small. He quickly left it and made his way back to the basin.
Fortunately, no calamity spotted him. He had also concealed himself, trying to make it back safely.
’What the fuck!?’
However, looking above, he saw that the False Dawn Harbinger was returning to its basin from the skies.
It was faster than him since he concealed himself. Still, if he didn’t conceal himself and was consequently faster, it would’ve easily spotted him and spelled his end. He was dumbfounded. He had merely kept it away from the basin for twenty minutes when he was supposed to keep it away for two hours. The chase lasted ten minutes, and he took more time to return because of using concealment. Judging by its speed, it would return to the base in five more minutes.
He clenched his teeth, knowing he had to pull its attention again. This time, he might be forced to use Fallen Heaven.
Looking around, he saw that there was no sight of the Eternal Eclipse Bird. Had it been killed? His heart shook.
But at this moment, a transmission echoed in his mind.
"Master, we have made it! We’re outside the northern valley."
