Chapter 1257: Deadly Plot of Ignorance
...
Yi Ying finished her report to Izroth before she left with haste.
’I sent Yi Ying to keep an eye on the movements of Pierce and the Duvelle family. It’s hard to believe that a family with such deep roots in the Amaharpe kingdom are working together with the League of the Eidolon. It would make more sense if Pierce is acting alone. However, after learning how long the shadahi have been around the Mortal Realm, I’m sure the Netherworld has its own ways as well. The existence of the League of the Eidolon itself is proof of that. I have to consider all possibilities.’
It was common knowledge to those who lived in the Mortal Realm that the shadahi were a fairly recent presence. To them, the shadahi abruptly appeared one day and brought about chaos. However, after Izroth completed the quest Resseki & Kiren’s Challenge: Sword & Shield, he discovered that the shadahi had already sunk their teeth into the Mortal Realm long before the war against them occurred.
Given how much hatred the Netherworld held toward the Mortal Realm, Izroth would not be surprised if their roots traveled back to the founding of the Mortal Realm kingdoms, yet alone a mere Duvelle family.
"Still, it’s strange. The importance of Danaharpe to the Amaharpe kingdom is nothing to scoff at. In terms of security, there are not many cities that are its equal. And, given where it’s located in Amaharpe, launching an attack against it would require one to break through several other cities. It would take a large amount of preparation. If the League of the Eidolon is involved, it’s probably nothing like a large scaled attack. Then, is there something in Danaharpe that they’re willing to risk exposing themselves to obtain?" Izroth said to himself.
After the recent attack on the Noble District in Danaharpe, the security measures had risen several fold. Additionally, one of the War Brigade’s main forces were currently situated in the city. Even though the War Brigade force was only using it as a temporary resting stop before they departed to help retake Terraharpe City, their presence still acted as a strong deterrent for any reckless moves.
’As I thought, I need more information before I can see the whole picture. There are too many missing pieces.’
Just as that thought crossed Izroth’s mind, the sound of a system alert went off in his head.

’Oh? A hidden quest? It looks like I’ve stumbled into something interesting. With this, it at least confirms that Yi Ying was correct about the League of the Eidolon making a move soon. Under normal circumstances, twelve hours would be too short to uncover a plot in a city as big as Danaharpe. However, since I already have a lead, I just have to continue to pursue it. The failure penalty is a bit harsh for an S-ranked quest. But, since I planned on getting involved either way, I might as well make the most of it.’
〈System Alert: You have accepted the hidden quest «Deadly Plot of Ignorance»!〉
In Izroth’s eyes, despite its harshness, the penalty for failing the quest was nothing huge. The most troublesome part was being restricted to Danaharpe for two weeks. There were many things he still had to do before making a trip to the Mother of All Forests. Naturally, he had no intention of being restricted for two weeks.
’This is the first time I’ve seen one able to incur a debt from failing a quest. If it’s a debt, then does it involve merchants or a noble family? Not to mention average players, even a small guild could not come up with 750 gold coins without struggle. With the current conversion rate, that’s a little more than 110,000 RMB1. That aside, I have to find out the identity of who was targeted in the recent attack on the Noble District. As long as I’m able to uncover that much, the remaining pieces should fall in place.’
Izroth believed that so long as he discovered the target of the attack, it would provide him with some insight into the League of the Eidolon’s goal. Furthermore, that person was also likely the one he needed to locate and acquire information from in order to complete the quest itself.
The next moment, Izroth removed a scroll and writing tool from his inventory. After writing for a few minutes, he pressed his hand onto the scroll as it became imprinted with his mana. Izroth then closed the scroll as a seal automatically appeared around it.
"Avia, I need you to head back to the Apothecary Guild main building and deliver a message to Apothecary Head Varuu. Remember, no one else is allowed to view the contents of this message except Apothecary Head Varuu herself." Izroth stated firmly as he handed over the scroll to Avia.
Avia held out both hands to receive the scroll as she said, "Yes, young master. Is there anything I should say upon delivery?"
"Just tell her that I caught wind of a few rats. She will understand the rest from my letter." Izroth replied calmly.
Avia nodded and said, "Then, I will leave at once."
In the blink of an eye, a gust of wind formed before Avia disappeared without a trace.
’Since I have some time before Yi Ying and Avia complete the tasks I’ve given them, I should pay a visit to the Formation Master District. I still have not made any progress creating the Lower Zone of Progression arcane script. Although the chances are small, it’s possible that I can find some clues if I look through the Formation Master Guild’s library.’
Arcane Script Runemaster—this was the legendary profession Izroth chose from the Profession Scroll he obtained. In many ways, an arcane script resembled a magic formation; however, there were vast differences in their level of effectiveness and how they were deployed.
On his way to Danaharpe, Izroth tried to create the Lower Zone of Progression arcane script he acquired, but the results were rather disappointing. Since there was no guide for creating arcane scripts, Izroth hoped that the Formation Master Guild would help provide him with some clues and aid in his own insights.
In normal cases, Izroth would not have been permitted to enter the Formation Master Guild main building, yet alone their library. After all, it was not as if he were a Formation Master himself. However, he currently held the status of an Honorary Elder of the Apothecary Guild. Of course, he planned to use this to his full advantage.
’Well, if my status as an Honorary Elder of the Apothecary Guild is insufficient, I have other methods at my disposal.’
...
Several minutes later...
’It’s not as impressive as the Apothecary Guild main building. But, the magic formations in this place are incomparable to others places I’ve visited. As expected of the Formation Master Guild in Danaharpe. Even if a group of legendary realm powerhouses attack this place together, it would not be easy to overtake.’
After departing his new property in Danaharpe’s Central Hub, Izroth immediately made his way to the Formation Master District and arrived at the Formation Master Guild’s main building.
Unlike the Apothecary Guild building that stood ten floors high, surprisingly, the Formation Master Guild building was a single floor. However, with his Energy Vision Sense and experience, Izroth could tell that despite its outer appearance, the building itself was enveloped in several spatial based magic formations. In other words, one could not judge what was inside solely by its outer appearance alone.
"Halt! This place is restricted to Formation Masters! If you wish to enter, you must show your Formation Master badge!" One of the three guards warned as he saw Izroth approach the Formation Master Guild’s main building.
Izroth halted his steps as he removed the Apothecary Guild’s Honorary Elder badge from his inventory and revealed it to the guards.
"I am Izroth, an Honorary Elder of the Apothecary Guild. I have come to take a look at the Formation Master Guild’s library." Izroth said in a carefree manner.
"This..." The three guards carefully observed the badge in Izroth’s hand before they turned to look at one another.
The first guard who initially spoke gave a small nod to the second guard. In response, the second guard took his leave and walked into the Formation Master Guild building with quickened steps.
