Chapter 1049: Rush Back To Inscriber Division

Chapter 1049: Chapter 1049: Rush Back To Inscriber Division

"Where is she rushing off to in such a massive hurry?"

Countless frantic questions surfaced in their minds as they stared blankly at the now-empty path. Unfortunately, nobody had the answers. All they knew for certain was that the usually calm and entirely unbothered Bai Xifeng had looked unusually anxious as she sprinted away from the Cultivation Pagoda at absolute full speed.

She was moving so fast that she did not even stop to greet Xie Lanying when she rushed right past her group.

"What on earth is wrong with Xifeng?" Xie Qingge, who was standing beside Xie Lanying, asked curiously, watching the girl’s retreating blur.

"It seems she was in a massive hurry for something. We still have our own classes to attend right now, so let’s just check on her later." Xie Lanying replied sensibly.

She did not think too deeply about Bai Xifeng’s sudden, erratic behaviour. In her mind, Bai Xifeng probably just had something incredibly urgent to deal with privately, which was why she had rushed off without saying a single word to them.

Meanwhile, Bai Xifeng raced all the way back to the Inscriber Division, her legs pumping as she refused to slow down even once. The exact moment she passed through the front gates, she headed straight toward the deep bamboo forest.

Only after arriving safely in the secluded clearing did she finally slide to a halt. Without wasting another precious second, she opened her portal, summoned Baihu out of the Mirror World, and carefully, gently placed the little tiger down on the soft grass.

Baihu remained completely unconscious, his small chest rising and falling rhythmically as the dense, ambient spiritual energy continuously gathered in a swirling vortex around his tiny body.

Worried that the raw energy of Baihu’s breakthrough would attract unwanted attention from the rest of the campus, Bai Xifeng immediately reached into her spatial pouch and took out several blank, high-grade rune papers.

Her fingers moved rapidly, practically blurring as her own spiritual energy flowed seamlessly from her fingertips through her brush. One intricate defensive rune after another appeared beneath her brush strokes before she activated them immediately.

Buzz!

A translucent, shimmering barrier rose from the dirt, encapsulating Baihu.

However, that single layer alone did not satisfy Bai Xifeng’s protective instincts. She immediately created another one right over it. Then another. And then another. Layer after layer of complex defensive arrays surrounded the little tiger, each one overlapping the previous formation with a soft hum, until the area around was completely hidden within multiple, thick protective barriers.

At that exact moment, Ji Yuan, who had been quietly and peacefully playing his guqin inside the nearby bamboo pavilion, suddenly paused his hands. His sharp senses had just detected an unusual, profoundly heavy fluctuation spreading throughout the bamboo forest. Without a word, he rose to his feet and slowly walked toward the source of the spiritual disturbance.

Several moments later, he arrived at the edge of the clearing. He silently observed the scene, watching a frantic Bai Xifeng busily drawing yet another protective array while a small white tiger cub lay sleeping peacefully in the very centre of the runic nest.

"Hmm..." Ji Yuan narrowed his eyes slightly, a rare look of deep scrutiny crossing his handsome features. ’This particular beast’s internal aura... it was entirely non-ordinary.’

After finishing the final brush stroke of the newest array, Bai Xifeng finally noticed Ji Yuan standing nearby in the shadows.

"Teacher Ji," Bai Xifeng greeted, wiping sweat from her brow.

Ji Yuan’s intense gaze remained fixed entirely on the sleeping cub.

"Another contracted beast?" Ji Yuan asked calmly, his voice level.

"Mhm." Bai Xifeng nodded honestly, stepping back to let him look.

Ji Yuan continued observing the little tiger in deep silence for a long moment. "This underlying aura is highly unusual."

"Weird how?" Bai Xifeng tilted her head in genuine confusion.

"It carries the unmistakable aura of a natural-born king." Ji Yuan gave a faint, slow nod of his head.

"A king?" Bai Xifeng was shocked.

"A Beast King." Ji Yuan clarified.

"A Beast King? You mean... my little Baihu?" Bai Xifeng’s eyes widened to the size of saucers.

"Yes." Ji Yuan nodded.

Bai Xifeng instinctively looked down at the tiny, fluffy white tiger curled up on the ground inside her barriers. No matter how she looked at him right now, he still looked exactly like the same little, helpless glutton who loved drinking milk and sleeping soundly in her arms. He hardly looked like a legendary entity destined to command countless millions of wild beasts across the continent.

"Someone powerful has already noticed it." Ji Yuan’s calm, chilling voice immediately pulled Bai Xifeng right back to reality.

"Notice what?" Bai Xifeng asked, her heart dropping.

"The death of the previous Beast King and the new one had been crowned. Those who understand and track beast auras will immediately sense the cosmic change." Ji Yuan’s gaze remained fixed firmly on Baihu’s small form. He paused, his eyes turning cold. "They will come here."

Bai Xifeng’s expression slowly became deathly serious. "...Then what happens if they find him?"

"They will either force him into a master-slave contract by any means necessary..." Ji Yuan replied calmly, "...or they will completely exploit him until there is nothing left."

Seeing Bai Xifeng’s confused and horrified expression, he continued his explanation in a low voice.

"A true Beast King possesses absolute, genetic authority over all wild beasts and can naturally suppress the bloodlines of weaker contracted beasts. Whoever controls a Beast King gains absolute influence over countless spirit beast armies. His strategic value is immeasurable." Ji Yuan’s voice remained entirely calm, but every single word carried considerable, terrifying weight.
