The Rising Phoenix

Chapter 1029: Invisible Attack

Chapter 1029: Chapter 1029: Invisible Attack

Bai Xifeng instantly snapped her eyes open and sprang to her feet in a single fluid motion. She quickly turned around, her hand instinctively dropping to a defensive stance. There was absolutely nothing there. Only the several massive trees stood quietly behind her, their leaves completely still. She frowned slightly, her eyes narrowing.

Instead of panicking over the strange occurrence, Bai Xifeng carefully examined her surroundings one more time before lowering herself back down and sitting down once more. This time, she deliberately closed her eyes again, keeping her physical senses on high alert.

Just as she highly expected, the strange, threatening sensation returned almost immediately. She sensed another sharp attack rushing toward her through the blind spot.

Bai Xifeng immediately opened her eyes to counter it. However, unlike the very first time, the incoming attack did not suddenly disappear into thin air. A sharp, unseen force struck her directly on the shoulder before she could dodge out of the way.

"Ugh!"

Bai Xifeng hissed through her teeth in sudden pain. A fresh, clean wound instantly appeared on her skin, and crimson blood immediately flowed out of the cut before dripping heavily onto the forest floor below. Her casual expression instantly turned incredibly serious. She swiftly jumped back up to her feet and looked around with heightened vigilance, her heart rate spiking.

Yet, she still could not see a single thing moving. Even after actively extending her spiritual senses out to their absolute limit, she was completely unable to detect the slightest presence of a living enemy. It was as if the brutal attacker did not exist in the physical realm at all. The very next moment, another invisible attack arrived with blinding speed. Then another.

The first struck her deeply in the right leg, forcing her balance to shift. The second sliced ruthlessly across her opposite shoulder. Caught completely off guard by the rapid, seamless succession of the invisible attacks, Bai Xifeng’s leg gave out, and she dropped heavily onto one knee. Before she could even attempt to recover or roll away, another invisible strike landed squarely across her unprotected back.

A burning, searing pain spread through her entire body. Fresh blood quickly soaked into the fabric of her school clothes. Bai Xifeng bit her lower lip hard, drawing blood of her own as she forcibly endured the agonising pain without making another sound.

She immediately reached back into her storage rune and pulled out a small glass bottle of high-grade wound-healing elixir. After quickly examining the nature of her clean cuts, she found absolutely no traces of dark poison. That meant the standard healing elixir would be more than sufficient to close the gashes.

Unfortunately, before she could even remove the tight wooden stopper and drink the liquid down, something unexpected happened.

Crack!

The fragile glass bottle suddenly shattered violently right inside her hand, the sharp fragments scattering uselessly across the dirt. The glowing healing elixir splashed onto the ground and quickly soaked into the dry soil before she could salvage even a single drop. Bai Xifeng’s eyes narrowed into slits as a cold, dangerous fury washed over her.

The unseen enemy had deliberately and precisely targeted the elixir bottle for a reason. It did not want her to heal her wounds or recover her strength. Which ultimately meant one undeniable thing. Whatever entity was currently hiding in this silent forest was highly intelligent, and it was actively and methodically trying to wear her down until she eventually bled out.

Bai Xifeng forced herself to focus through the pain. She carefully observed her surroundings while extending her spiritual senses as far as possible into the trees. However, she still could not detect a single anomaly. She had absolutely no idea what was attacking her or where the strikes were coming from. The enemy was completely invisible.

Once again, the unseen creature attacked. A sharp pain erupted from her side as another clean wound appeared. Then another attack followed. And another. Before long, her body was completely covered in bleeding cuts and jagged gashes. Although none of the injuries was immediately fatal on their own, the continuous, relentless attacks were steadily wearing down her stamina.

Bai Xifeng immediately realised that remaining in place was a terrible idea. Without a second thought, she turned around and ran. To her surprise, the moment her feet started moving, the attacks immediately stopped. The invisible enemy did not continue striking her while she was actively running through the trees. This sudden discovery caused Bai Xifeng’s eyes to light up slightly.

’It is not following me?’ That thought flashed through her mind.

Wanting to confirm her suspicion, she gradually slowed her pace before eventually coming to a complete stop near a massive tree trunk. The result was immediate.

Several invisible attacks rushed toward her simultaneously from completely different directions. Bai Xifeng reacted quickly, but she still could not see anything to block. Even though her eyes remained wide open and she did not blink for a single moment, the attacks remained completely invisible as they struck her body. Fresh wounds immediately appeared across her arms and shoulders, tearing her robes further.

"Damn it! It is completely invisible!" Bai Xifeng cursed loudly, her voice echoing through the silent woods. "What kind of cheat monster is this?"

Since she still could not find a viable way to detect or deal with it, Bai Xifeng made a quick decision. Running blindly was a thousand times better than standing still and getting turned into a human pincushion. Gritting her teeth, she endured the sharp stings and continued running at full speed through the endless forest.

The injuries she suffered were mostly superficial, and fortunately, there were no internal injuries or broken bones. However, that did not make the situation any less painful.
