Rotting Land: Survive

Chapter 114: Strange Noises in the Bathroom (Part 1)

The thing he worried about the most has happened; Tang Xiaoquan rubbed his temples with great concern.

Undeniably, Wei Yang's cooking was indeed tempting, a hundred times better than the 'bland soup' he used to make. But the problem is... her meal consumed the reserve food planned for two days.

This means that the action proposed yesterday has reached a critical moment where a decision is necessary.

Tang Xiaoquan really didn't know what to say about this!

"Hey, Xiao Tang, what's wrong? Is it... these dishes... not to your taste?" Wei Yang put down her chopsticks uncertainly and asked.

"Huh?" Tang Xiaoquan, who was lost in thoughts about survival plans, was caught off guard by the voice in his ear and unintentionally responded. He immediately realized his slip of demeanor.

"Nothing! Nothing! Well, Xiao Wei, my buddy here has this habit, loves to act all deep and thoughtful. Back in school, he was always overthinking, and you should see the kind of books he reads. What were they? Oh, right! All about psychology! So yeah, reading too many psychology books left him with aftereffects!"

"Huh? Really... reading psychology books can leave aftereffects?" Wei Yang turned her head curiously, clearly not realizing the jest in Wang Qiang's words.

"Of course! Haven't you heard of that saying?" Seeing Wei Yang take the bait, Wang Qiang got more interested. Knowing that in daily arguments and banters, he always ended up on the losing side, he wasn't going to miss this rare chance to turn the tables.

Maintaining an air of sincerity, Wang Qiang munched on some special peanuts with a crisp crunch and said solemnly:

"That saying goes like this: reading too many psychology books can make someone go crazy. For instance, Xiao Tang's behavior is a typical case of excessive reading-induced psychological aftereffects."

Randomly making up a term, Wang Qiang delivered his lines with a straight face, as if he were a professional at a seminar.

However, as soon as he finished, Wei Yang was already laughing uncontrollably, her face flushed with amusement.

Feeling speechless, Tang Xiaoquan glared at Wang Qiang, instinctively wanting to retort. But seeing the genuine smile on the girl's face, he wisely closed his mouth.

The dinner was surprisingly joyful, not just because of the delicious food, but also due to Wei Yang's presence, which added a touch of gentle femininity to the otherwise masculine group.

No wonder they say that men and women working together is less tiring!

Everyone at the table took turns with their tricks—humorous jokes, stories of bizarre people and events, experiences and insights—in an effort to make Wei Yang laugh.

Of course, their efforts paid off, and Wei Yang appeared genuinely happy, though no one knew that beneath her cheerful exterior, her feelings of loneliness and sadness remained unchanged.

After the meal, everyone played poker for a while, during which Wei Yang discovered that they were betting on laundry duties. Amused, she offered to take on the responsibility of washing everyone's clothes.

Everyone was more than willing, with no objections, and unanimously agreed on the important decision for 'Comrade Wei Yang to take charge of laundry duties.'

At midnight, crickets chirped softly in the bushes as Tang Xiaoquan and Ah Cheng leaned against the wall, lazily fanning themselves.

Since the storage room had been given to Wei Yang, Tang and Du had to camp at the entrance, enduring the sleepless night.

Around 3 or 4 am, just as Tang Xiaoquan grew weary, he suddenly heard faint rustling sounds from the bathroom.

Initially dismissing it as a companion's accidental noise during a midnight trip, it wasn't until a clear shout echoed that he realized something was wrong in the bathroom!

Without regard for waking the deeply sleeping Ah Cheng, Tang Xiaoquan rushed to the bathroom with his vegetable knife in hand.

His actions were undeniably risky, but he acted uncharacteristically, driven by one thought.

Because in that moment, Tang Xiaoquan thought of someone from the past, someone who had died tragically one night due to mutation.

Could it be that Wei Yang also...

He dared not think further, but the image of the girl limping by the ambulance involuntarily resurfaced in Tang Xiaoquan's mind.

No! Absolutely not! With prayers in his heart, Tang Xiaoquan quickened his steps, almost instantly reaching the bathroom door.

Gently pushing it, the door opened with a soft creak, revealing within a delicate figure crawling on the ground, gradually coming into Tang Xiaoquan's view.

"Who is it? Is... is that you, Xiao Tang?" The voice, tinged with doubt, felt heavenly to Tang Xiaoquan, making him sigh in relief.

Without a doubt, zombies can't speak, so...

"It's me! It's me!" He lit a candle, the flickering light revealing Wei Yang struggling to get up.

"What happened to you?" He took a step forward, extending his arm just in time.

"Oh, nothing! I, I... just... it was too dark just now, I wasn't careful, so... I fell!"

Avoiding eye contact and with incoherent words, Wei Yang's unusual behavior drew Tang Xiaoquan's attention.

"Are you sure you're okay?" He lightly asked, to which Wei Yang immediately replied with certainty: "I'm fine, really, haha!"

But as she finished speaking, her brows involuntarily twitched slightly.

This detail did not escape Tang Xiaoquan's gaze, who immediately thought of something. His eyes drifted downwards, and he couldn't help inhaling sharply.

It was a red swelling the size of a fist, protruding from the side of her right ankle.

How painful it must have been! Tang Xiaoquan couldn't fathom how she had endured such pain all this time!

Could it be true that women have a higher pain tolerance? Tang Xiaoquan was truly amazed tonight, and silently praised Wei Yang's perseverance.
