Rotting Land: Survive

Chapter 113: A Headache-Inducing Arrangement

"Thank you all for everything you've done for me and my father. I will try my best to live on!" Standing with her back turned, Wei Yang gently wiped the tears from the corner of her eyes, then turned around, forcing a slight smile:

"Hehe! I'm fine now! I wonder if there's anything I can help everyone with?"

Since her mother's passing, Wei Yang had developed a habit of self-reliance early on. Whether in study or life, she always completed her own tasks.

So now, upon entering this new group, she immediately realized that she needed to do something because she disliked the feeling of being idle, didn't want to be a burden to others, and certainly didn't like being treated as if she needed special care.

She planned to prove with her actions that she could survive the apocalypse, showing that women are no worse than men!

After hearing the girl's question, everyone found themselves momentarily speechless.

It wasn't that they couldn't think of something for the girl to do, but...

The inherent laziness as men, combined with long-established thinking, led them to instinctively think of the same thing at the same time, which was doing laundry.

Yes, it's something that troubled all the men to the extent that they later even used it as stakes in card games.

However, facing Wei Yang, who had just come out of mourning, who had the nerve to make such an unreasonable request?

Seeing everyone with a subtle expression of embarrassment, Wei Yang's cheeks blushed slightly as she softly said, "I'm sorry, I know everyone might think I'm a woman and can't be of much help, but..."

"No, no, no!" Hu Xiaodong quickly waved his hand to interrupt her, then said seriously, "Uh~ Wei, don't misunderstand us, we absolutely have no intention of discriminating against women, right, Xiao Tang?"

He nudged Tang Xiaoquan beside him, and a meaningful smile appeared on Hu Xiaodong's face.

"Ah~ this..." Tang Xiaoquan, utterly unprepared, was caught off guard by his buddy's sudden maneuver, making him feel a little embarrassed.

However, he quickly recovered, gotten back on track after a moment of surprise, and seriously agreed, "That's right, what Hu said is right, we're not chauvinists! Besides, there's an old saying that women hold up half the sky! Haha, haha!"

Scratching his head with an embarrassed laugh, Tang Xiaoquan shot an annoyed glance at Hu Xiaodong.

But...

"Oh, even so, Xiao Tang, could you give me a task then...?"

"Pfft~" As Wei Yang's voice, as clear as a silver bell, fell, those like Wang Qiang, who had been keeping tight-lipped, finally couldn't hold back their laughter.

Damn, making friends unwisely! Tang Xiaoquan suddenly felt like he had walked into a trap.

Looking into Wei Yang's eyes full of anticipation, Tang Xiaoquan truly felt at a loss.

It wasn't his fault; after all, in this post-apocalyptic world, the normal social structure had long collapsed, and survival had become a part of daily routine for every survivor.

But now, he couldn't just tell Wei Yang, "Uh, we're planning to leave here, but we need a vehicle. Can you find one for us?"

If he really said such a thing, Tang Xiaoquan was sure everyone would kill him with their eyes.

So he had to think of a way to both give her a task to lighten her mood and ensure her safety...

It was troubling, very troubling!

However, to Tang Xiaoquan's utter surprise, just as he was troubled and at a loss over what task to assign the girl, his buddy Wang Qiang suddenly jumped out, then said with a sly, ugly smile, "So, Wei, can you cook?"

Slightly twitching his eyelid, Tang Xiaoquan pointed subtly at Wang Qiang, but the latter remained oblivious, keeping a sickening smile and looking at Wei Yang with a sincere face.

She brushed a few strands of flying hair and tidied them, and Wei Yang nodded affirmatively, "Yes, I can cook and prepare dishes! Hehe!"

"Well, that's... wonderful!" With hands and feet almost moving at the same time, Wang Qiang said excitedly, as if finding salvation, "Wei, you have no idea how much our main chef Tang Xiaoquan messes up, so you have to save us from this dire situation at all costs."

If he were to break into tears now, Wang Qiang's performance could truly be considered Hollywood-level, worthy of an Oscar.

Glancing sympathetically at Tang Xiaoquan, Wei Yang felt somewhat embarrassed and hesitantly confirmed, "This seems not very appropriate?"

"No! How could it be inappropriate? You're overthinking it!" To validate his point, Wang Qiang pulled over Tang Xiaoquan, then patted him twice, laughing, "Quan, we unanimously nominate Wei to cook, you Y have no objections, right?"

Feeling an urge to crack open his buddy's pig brain and see what it's filled with, Tang Xiaoquan could only respond with "haha" a few times and nodded in agreement.

"Snap!" With a flick of his finger, Wang Qiang's smile grew even brighter, "Okay, then, it's happily decided that Wei will handle the cooking!"

Excitedly waving everyone inside, Wang Qiang walked while secretly rejoicing in his great "heroic feat" today.

Time flew by, and soon it was evening again, with everyone, as usual, gathering around the wooden table, eagerly anticipating tonight's feast.

In the kitchen, the crackling sound of oil in the frying pan was constant, making all the survivors swallow unconsciously.

When the dishes were served, their eyes were almost dazzled!

A plate of stir-fried spam cubes, a plate of spicy sardines, a pot of hot soup noodles, and a small dish of peanuts crafted with a special sauce and vinegar recipe to accompany drinks.

To ordinary people, these dishes might be nothing, but you must know, this is in the apocalypse; to these survivors living off "clear soup and little water," these things are akin to a Manchu-Han Imperial Feast.

"Wei, you're really talented!"

"Oh my God, my stomach, today it can finally feast!"

"Having women here really makes a difference!"

"God! Am I dreaming?!"

One after another, everyone spoke from the heart, causing Wei Yang's face to flush with embarrassment.

Yet, among them, there was one who hadn't said a word, who kept his brows furrowed, maintaining silence...
