Facing the Apocalypse with My Other Selves

Chapter 99: The Vast Potential of Magic

"That must be the direction of Magic." Intersellar world Shen Yu was also delighted.

They hadn't started researching Magic yet, but the advantage of having another path was already showing.

After completely resolving the Eye Worms, Shen Yu now had fourteen billion in hand.

In other words, although the crisis brought by the Ocean Meteorite exceeded expectations, Human Civilization actually already possessed a fallback method—it's just that others didn't know about it yet.

This is the benefit of the increase in Gray Mist.

However, a fallback is still just a fallback.

"I definitely can't use it impulsively like this. I need to figure out how to reduce Gray Mist consumption," Shen Yu said again, "Besides, there's another Meteorite on the Mother Star, and the one about to arrive—both will bring unknown trouble."

This was what worried Shen Yu most.

The specific crises brought by Meteorites were not regular or predictable.

The Eye Worms had been so easy to solve.

But the resources needed to deal with this oceanic Meteorite were enormously high.

And the landing times of these two Meteorites were actually about the same.

No one can predict what new situation Meteorites will bring.

Gray Mist must be conserved as much as possible; in fact, raising the power of the entire Civilization is the real solution—never become dependent on Gray Mist.

Only when truly no other solution is available, and the situation becomes extremely urgent, should Gray Mist be used as the final trump card.

"I've already prepared the defensive facilities," interstellar world Shen Yu said at this moment, "mainly defensive ones. As for consumable weapons, Interstellar Civilization is also under pressure, but if things get urgent, we can still make further trades. Goddess of Hope is especially interested in the 'plant-type lifeforms' discovered previously."

The Mother Star had become quite wealthy as far as the trading front was concerned.

Interstellar Civilization had a high demand for nearly every kind of meteorite monster.

They had even placed an order for a live worm.

And those plant-type monsters, which could be controlled by Martial Arts, could also help increase Interstellar Civilization's Martial Arts Power—they were planning large-scale cultivation.

One could just say: different crises in different worlds are entirely different.

None of the monsters encountered so far, even including the newest types, posed much threat to Interstellar Civilization.

If it weren't for the war triggered by the Void Spirit Race, and with the support of a fully flourishing Interstellar Civilization, Mother Star wouldn't need to worry much even when facing mutations covering the entire ocean territory.

Unfortunately, there was no such "if."

Standing against doomsday mostly relied on themselves.

After that, Mother Star's actions became swift.

First, a danger warning was issued, mainly aimed at the coastal regions. Thanks to Shen Yu demonstrating the Association's Mighty Power earlier, people were still somewhat afraid of the new meteorite monsters, but not so much as to cause chaos—many even found the courage to fight back.

Knowing the new crisis was coming from the sea, coastal city residents began relocating inland.

Meanwhile, warriors deployed toward coastal cities.

The coastal cities now presented scenes straight out of sci-fi, even fantasy.

Huge transport ships hovered over the cities as crowds of people—whole families—filed in, while future warriors, clad in new equipment and weapons, gorged themselves on meat, accelerating their training.

Move the view wider, and the sci-fi becomes even more dramatic.

Armored vehicles and tanks kept rolling in, but ahead were all sorts of construction robots flying about in different shapes—they were building a fully encircling automatic Defense Barrier along the entire coastline.

This Defense Barrier was made up of force field emitters every thousand meters—a towering column three hundred meters high.

Once installation methods were understood, even without construction robots, Human Civilization's own facilities could handle part of the work.

In fact, among the goods traded from Interstellar Civilization, the largest share wasn't ready-made equipment, but technology and production lines.

Especially production lines.

Many weapons, even AI robots, could now be manufactured on Mother Star itself, gradually replacing the older production lines.

Shen Yu had never bothered to micromanage the details of those trades, since those human elites understood tech development far better than he did.

However, as the defensive construction was raging on, the investigations into the seabed kept delivering bad news.

The detection devices found not just one kind of affected organism.

Besides the previously identified monsters that looked likely to evolve into flying creatures, there was another type—apparently based on krill, but now each one had grown to the size of a calf.

With tough shells, sharp pincers, and a hideous appearance.

And their numbers were shockingly, terrifyingly huge.

And aside from those, there were other individually giant creatures.

"Overall, ocean monsters fall into two categories," said one of the experts at a high-level Human Civilization symposium, all doing their best to help. "One is when the whole species is affected and undergoes mass mutation—these monsters are extremely numerous. The other is singular marine organisms mutating, generally shown in expanded size and rapid evolution, causing energy level reactions to spike..."

Whichever category, neither is easy to deal with.
