Werewolf Leveling: Building the Strongest Pack in the Apocalypse

Chapter 103: Prey

The entire forest quaked in the battle that ensued between me and Danzo. Trees were ripped from their roots and tossed aside.

Our battle only started a few minutes ago, but in that time the forest became reminiscent of a wasteland.

Danzo came at me at full force, and I was forced to evade his deadly attacks. The full moon has both our appearances.

Danzo had black wolf-like ears and a tail, and so did I. Danzo was shrouded in a red aura that looked almost like mist.

While an orange aura that looked almost like flames danced around me.

I was breathing heavily. Healing and evading Danzo's deadly attacks had taken a lot out of me.

"Why does it feel like you're stalling!" Danzo roared as he stared up at me from the ground.

I was standing atop a tall tree, staring down at him.

"No, something isn't quite right with you. What are you planning?" Danzo questioned.

While Danzo spoke, I mainly focused on the screen in front of me, paying little attention to whatever he was saying.

[5 minutes remaining until your rank evolution is complete]

This is what I was mainly focused on. Whether I would evolve into a regular alpha or a true alpha. I couldn't help but feel a bit anxious about the outcome.

"There is something different about your scent. It smells familiar." Danzo said, looking at me suspiciously, "Never mind!"

Danzo roared loudly before using his powerful claws to rip the tree in half. The tree I was standing on began to falter, and the moment it did, Danzo launched himself into the air towards me.

He had a massive grin on his face as he came in close. I reacted instantly and leaped from the tree to evade his assault, but just then I felt his hand wrap around my foot.

[4 minutes remaining]

It was as if an alarm went off in my mind at that very moment, and without hesitation, I severed that leg without a second thought.

Losing a limb or two was the least. With my healing ability I could always regenerate it.

If given the chance, Danzo would go in for the kill without a moment's thought. That was the kind of monster I was up against.

It took mere seconds for me to regenerate my missing LG, but in that time Danzo had closed the gap between us.

A cold chill washed over me when I saw him suddenly appear in front of me.

'No time to react'

His claws reached for my heart, but at the last second I twisted my body, causing him to miss by just a few inches.

Blood flooded my mouth as Danzo Burris buried his claws in my chest.

His grin widened as he stared at me with bloodred eyes, but suddenly his eyes lost their redness and instead turned yellow.

CRACK!

Danzo's smile faded instantly as the realization set in.

'This was all a trap.'

He glanced down to see the shattered moonstone, which before was hanging from around his neck and now within my grasp. His face paled when he saw the pieces of the fragile stone falling to the ground.

"You purposefully lured me in," he mumbled in disbelief.

Creatures who had a natural instinct to hunt were all the same. If given the chance, they would always go in for the kill.

Though I took a huge risk by allowing him to grab my foot and then severing it to make it look as if I was cornered.

Werewolves were no different from wild animals. If they think their prey is cornered, then they lose all rational thought and instead act purely on primal instincts. That instant is to kill.

The biggest obstacle in my battle with Danzk was the moonstone since it increases his powers threefold. From the moment I learned of its effects, I planned to destroy it.

Though if I had miscalculated even a second, I could've lost my life right then and there. But it was well worth the risk. Now we could battle fairly. Alpha against alpha.

[3 minutes remaining]

ROAR!!

Damzo let out a loud primal roar before moving to finishthe job. His claws cut through the air, aiming to decapitate me with one strike, but just then I switched places with one of my shadow hounds, who I had set up as an escape route.

I was transported a considerable distance away from Danzo. He would track me down in no time, but I had at least secured a few seconds to heal and catch my breath.

As I rested, I couldn't help but wonder how the others were faring. The werewolves in my pack seemed to be struggling even though they were much superior to regular werewolves.

I think that has something to do with me as an alpha. I needed to prove to them that I had the strength and power to lead. Only then could their true strength shine.

I could still hear them. All of them. Their loud cries caused my heart to quicken just from hearing them. Isabella's heart rate was low, but she was still alive.

Selthia's heart rate was steady. She once told me that Sirens were also affected by the full moon. She said it improves their water magic, and that was the reason she was able to kill so many Mothmen the night Whifer saw her. Maybe that's the reason her skin wasn't drying out.

As for Sylvie and Kumo, their heartbeats were the loudest. Whether she was hunting animals or werewolves, Sylvie always gets excited while killing things. I noticed she always blushes too and looks a bit like Kumo in that state.

As for Kumo, I could still hear her screaming 'Darling' over and over again.

GRR!!

I was pulled from. My thoughts were interrupted by the sound of a monster growling. I looked to the bushes to see yellow glowing eyes staring back at me. And soon a massive black wolf stepped out of the shadows.

[2 minutes remaining]

Danzo slowly circled around me like a predator getting ready to pounce on prey. His yellow eyes scanned every movement I made, and his ferocious jaws glistened with saliva, which dripped onto the ground below.

"A black wolf. Same as me."

That was the first thought that crossed my mind.

He didn't attack. Instead, he just stared at me, and I knew exactly what he wanted. He was giving me time to transform.

I couldn't help but chuckle at this gesture.

[1 minute remaining]

I decided to give in to his request and closed my eyes, focusing on the power of the full moon waking over me. The process was relatively painless as my body recorded and strutted itself into the shape of a giant black wolf.

Danzo and I were roughly the same size. We bared our fangs as our eyes locked onto each other, but just then…

[Ding!]
