Moving along the side of the buildings while avoiding any of the humans who ran around in a panicked manner due to the arrival of the ancient dire wolf, Scaly soon spotted a gate in the distance. The only problem was that the gate in question was closed shut at the moment.
However, she didn't let this stop her, as she continued to make her way towards the gate. Intending to try and see if she could find another way to slip through a crack in gate or climb up the stone wall that surrounded the city and jump down it.
Although doing this did carry the risk of being discovered, she wasn't too worried about having any humans chasing after her with the ancient dire wolf around. Even if they saw her leaving, they would probably be far too scared of the ancient dire wolf to chase after her.
Whoosh~
Arriving in front of the gate that only had a few guards frantically running back and forth with scared expressions on their faces, Scaly didn't waste any time as she slipped past them and got close enough to examine the gate up close for any crack, she might be able to squeeze through before the guards noticed her.
Nothing…
Unfortunately, the gate seemed to have just recently been installed and had no cracks so to speak of. Forcing her to give up her first plan and go with the riskier one that involved climbing the stone wall before jumping from it.
The risky part was not that she had to jump from the more than five-meter-tall wall, but the fact that there were quite a lot of humans moving around on top of the wall.
Even if she did her best trying to avoid them, it would pretty much be impossible given that she would have to jump from the wall. Making it hard for them to not notice her shiny blue scales being illuminated by the sun above.
In a sense, the fact that she had been able to avoid detection so far was already amazing in and of itself, as she was rather easy to spot with her bright scales and hard to conceal appearance.
The only reason she had been able to even get close enough to examine the gate in the first place being because the humans subconsciously didn't bother wasting time turning to see the small blue thing that moved around in the corner of their vision. Far too focused on getting to safety before the ancient dire wolf broke into the town.
Shaking her head as she thought about this while looking in the direction of the few guards who were still panicking as they nervously grabbed their weapons and began moving up to the top of the wall through a wooden ramp that had been constructed next to the gate, Scaly could not help narrowing her eyes as she sneakily followed behind the guards.
Soon enough finding herself on top of the wall without being discovered as she quickly hid away behind a few barrels that had a large number of arrows stored inside of them.
The reason why she didn't jump off the wall the moment she got up was simple…
[Ancient Dire Wolf, lvl 63]
She spotted the ancient dire wolf that she had seen back on top of the mountain… And from the obvious increase in level, it was not hard to guess that the humans who had set out to kill it hadn't survived the ordeal.
However, the thing that stopped Scaly from jumping down the wall and running away was not the ancient dire wolf, as the humans already seemed to have overwhelmed it and was preventing it from getting any closer to the town-
Roooar-!
[Ancient Dire Wolf Cub, lvl 1]
[Ancient Dire Wolf Cub, lvl 3]
[Ancient Dire Wolf Cub, lvl 2]
[Ancient Dire Wo...]
Instead, it was the dozen or so smaller ancient dire wolf cub who were going on a rampage slaughtering a large number of humans as the ancient dire wolf kept the stronger humans in check.
Although these small cubs were only between level 1 and 5 at the moment, their strength was already comparable to a human around level 30. Making them rather formidable opponents when they worked together to fight the weaker humans who tried their best to kill them to no avail.
The fight in question just so happened to take place directly below the wall that she was on top of. Not only resulting in a larger number of humans, but also resulting in some stronger humans around level 50 being present on the wall as they used their magic to attack the larger ancient dire wolf from afar or help out the struggling humans below.
Hm… I should still be able to escape if I jump from the wall given that all of the humans seem to be busy with the ancient dire wolf and the cubs, but… Isn't this also a great opportunity for me to increase my strength…?
Feeling both her eyes starting to shine as she thought about this while looking at the struggling humans below and the powerful level 50 humans who seemed to pay no attention to what was happening behind them, Scaly could not help feeling tempted to take attack them. Part of her feeling curious about how much her strength would increase if she managed to kill a human that had reached level 50.
No, I can't just give up such a great opportunity!
Narrowing both her eyes as she came to a decision, Scaly turned her sight towards an exhausted human mage who seemed to be about to run out of mana from constantly attacking the ancient dire wolf with powerful fire magic from afar.
[Human, Grand Fire Mage, lvl 51]
Inspecting this human, Scaly's eyes narrowed even further as the wish for strength overcame her fear of being attacked by the rest of the humans on the wall-
Swish-!
And the moment the human mage began the process of casting magic again, she took the opportunity and dashed forth with all of her strength. Gathering her mana into her claws to strengthen them and use her claw strike ability at its strongest.
"Wha-!?"
"Monster!"
"Senior! WATCH OUT!"
As she charged forward, the humans on the wall almost instantly noticed her and called out to warn the mage-
Ptsh-!
However, it was far too late, as the unsuspecting human mage only had time to turn around in surprise before feeling Scaly's claws digging into his chest and directly cutting into his heart. Killing him before he could mount any form of resistance.
The magic barrier that would normally protect him at all times having been exhausted, as he focused all of his mana towards attacking the ancient dire wolf. Not thinking that a monster would be capable of sneaking up the wall with so many people around.

[*Ding* Reached level 18]
[*Ding* Reached level 19]
[*Ding* Reached level 20]
Three levels in one go… If I can kill another ten- No five more humans like that, I will be able to reach level thirty in no time and undergo my next evolution!
Not paying any attention to the mage after killing him, Scaly was far more focused on the large amount of experience she received after killing him.
Whoosh~
Of course, this didn't mean that she came to a stop, as she understood very well that continuing to stay on the wall where there was no lack of level 40 and 50 humans would be a death sentence, as she jumped off the wall after she killed the mage.
Thump~
Soon landing on the soft grass below without any problems, as the grass ended up softening most of the impact from the fall.
However, before she had the time to start running, an angry voice echoed out from the wall behind her, as she soon felt a shiver run down her spine.
"Everyone! Focus your fire on that lizard! Kill it!"
"""Yes!"""
Not a second later, a rain of arrows and magic headed straight for her, as the humans on top of the wall seemed to have shifted their attention from the large ancient dire wolf to her. Clearly intending to avenge the mage she had just killed.
Eeeek!?
Only able to let out a panicked cry in her mind as the firepower of close to a hundred humans all ranging between the levels of 20 to 50 focused on to her, Scaly could only hug the wall to barely avoid the terrifying combined attack-
BOOOOM-!
Even then, the magic blowing up right next to her still ended up leaving her in a bloody state as she had no way to put up much of a resistance when faced with the terrifying might of magic from level 50 humans.
On the positive side, it seemed like the humans on the wall didn't think she had survived and instantly turned their attention back towards the ancient dire wolf after seeing their attacks land, while on the negative side, they would undoubtedly focus her down again if they saw her trying to run away.
Meaning, she was stuck laying on the ground covered in blood to avoid the attention of the humans on top of the wall…
