Surprised by the sudden turn of events, Jaden muttered.
"What?"
'Talk about timing,' he thought before stepping out of Maria's office.
Just as he stepped out, the sound of countless rushing footsteps, screams and shouts reached his ears.
"Blasted hell..." he mumbled darkly and stepped forward toward the exit of the training centre.
However, just as his next step touched the hard floor, he felt his world shift.
Feeling the familiar sensation, he cursed, "Not this shit again!"
His world stilled once again, and he found himself amidst other students, many of whom had terrified expressions on their faces, and only a few were calm.
He looked around to search for his friends. However, he didn't find anyone until a few familiar sounds reached him.
"Bre!"
"Bru!"
He lowered his head and saw Whitey and Blacky standing by his side.
Seeing them there, he thought, 'Did Yuka also teleport them? But how? They don't have the academy badges...' his eyes widened in realisation and he mumbled, "So that's why they ask us to register our pets..."
He bent down and picked up the two of them in his arms, even though they barely fit his embrace now.
"You two grow too fast," he muttered and rubbed his head with their.
Both of the devouring pups let out soft sounds at the act of affection.
A heavy voice resounded within the vast room in which all of the students were teleported, "Attention, everyone."
The room fell silent, and all of them turned towards the direction of the voice. After seeing the figure of that person, Jaden frowned and mumbled, "Ansel..."
Ansel stood atop a floating platform and enhanced his voice by channelling mana into his vocal cords and spoke, "You all must be scared, many of you probably just want to run away from here, and some of you may even want to fight the vermin that will crawl out of the dreamgate and for that, I have both good and bad news."
He paused and let his words sink in before continuing.
"Being the messenger of the prestigious Arcane Knight Academy, I must tell you both of them."
"The good news is that none of you have to pick up any weapon for this dreamgate."
Cheers erupted into the crowd, and wide, relieved smiles appeared on everyone's face. However, Jaden's expression was sombre.
He hadn't known Ansel for long, but he knew how big a sadist he was. There was no way in hell that he would step onto that platform just to tell the students something to be happy about.
And he was proven right upon Ansel's next word.
The corner of Ansel's lips twitched as he fought back a sadistic smirk from appearing on his face.
"As for the bad news, this dreamgate is not going to be the last of the gates to appear within or near the walls of the academy in the foreseeable near future and because of that. A few of the talented students would be sent to contain the dreamgates."
Just as those words left his lips, all of the joyous smiles that had appeared on the students' faces crumbled as if a hammer had fallen onto thin glass.
The room turned heavy and dark because of the sudden shift in everyone's emotions.
Jaden clenched his fists and glared at Ansel with eyes burning in fury.
'That sadistic bastard!' He cursed inwardly and shifted his eyes between other students.
He could see the flames of hope that had been reignited in their eyes from the good news put out.
As he was looking around, his eyes fell on a familiar figure; he moved toward the person without a thought.
The students parted by themselves as if they were puppets controlled by strings.
A few moments later, he reached the person. He looked at her elegant white hair before calling out, "Selina..."
Selina turned her head, and her eyes sparkled upon landing on him, "Jaden!" She exclaimed and stepped closer to him.
Just as she moved, Shelly, who was standing beside her, also became visible.
He looked at her before shifting his gaze toward Selina.
"Where are the others?" He questioned and looked around. The others were supposed to be near her because during this time, they were usually together.
Jaden had left early because of his talk with the old man in the library and Maria, but the others should have still met.
"The teleportion happened after Shelly and I left for the dorm, but we were only able to step out of the room," Selina explained while staring into his blue sapphire-like eyes.
He ignored her intense stare and spoke, "Let's look for others."
Selina nodded at his words, and the three of them began to look for the others.
"There," Jaden pointed at a person and stated, "he has the same hair as Arden."
Selina looked at the person and frowned. She turned her head towards him and spoke, "Arden has ash brown hair, but that person has dark brown hair..."
"Huh? I-I see," he stuttered before looking around once again, 'Aren't both just brown?' He thought.
Selina chuckled slightly before she turned to look in the other direction.
Just as she turned, she bumped into another student, and she slipped.
Jaden moved and grabbed her by the waist, effectively saving her from falling.
Their faces were only a few inches apart. Selina looked into his eyes with her obsessive ones, and seeing those eyes, Jaden shivered.
He let go of her waist, stepped back and mumbled, "Let's look without falling..."
Selina bit her lower lip and gave him a reluctant nod.
A dark thought appeared in her mind, 'Should I have just used Illusion magic to make him fall on me?'
Unaware of her thoughts, Jaden continued to look for others.
