The interior was a vast hall, enough to take in at least 100 people with ease, and thrice as more if one doesn't mind getting squeezed up. The floor was designed in blue and white marble tiles that added a certain charm to the party, while the ceiling had a huge chandelier lit up with lights and candles. Each door, each railing, each corner was decorated with blue and white flowers and bouquets, setting the theme of the masquerade.
To the left and the right, there were gates that led to the wide open balcony, which then had stairs connected to the nearby garden, which was also decorated with the same blue and white flowers. One can take a break from the party if they get too overwhelmed with the atmosphere, which happens for most people from time to time.
There were two semicircular stairs on both sides that led to the upper floors, and a narrow straight path in the middle with a brown closed door which was locked with a giant golden lock. It made me curious enough to think about it, but not too much to get interested in it.
"Ladies and gentlemen, may I have your attention, please?" A pleasant voice resounded throughout the entire hall as a lady in blue, standing at the top of the staircase, spoke in a passionate tone.
A slender figure and blue eyes. Long white hair… hmmm.. that seems to be dyed and not a natural colour. Perhaps even the eye colour is being faked. I somewhat remember her voice, but it's not enough to exactly- Hmmm… what's that? As I was trying to recall who she was, I saw a bluish ring on her hand. It seemed ordinary at first glance, but if I remember correctly, it belongs to that family… Winchesters.
Is she a Winchester, or is she pretending to be a Winchester? I questioned as something like this was not enough to make a complete judgement. Deciding to wait and watch, I continued my observation as usual.
"First of all, thank you for coming to this party. As per the traditional rules that have been followed for ages, we have kept the agenda and theme hidden from the invited, which will be revealed only at the official beginning of the party. Which is to say…" she looked at a glistening silver watch that matched with the rest of the clothes and then continued,"… 20 minutes later."
She pondered for a few more seconds before continuing," Since we have time to kill but not enough to hold a minor event, I will simply reiterate the tradition here. Those of you who might be visiting for the first time, or might have a little less idea of what it is, can listen closely to understand the meaning behind the rules we have set and followed."
Well. Now I know who she is. I smiled as I finally saw through the person behind that mask.
Alexandra Graham Bellimore.
The guild leader of one of the 7 most powerful guilds in my previous life, and also the fiancee of Morgan Luis, who was one of the other Legendary Class holders, The Pathmaker. It was hard to forget her. In fact, I was even more amazed that she was even here since she usually spends her time on an island mansion, which her family owns.
Perhaps this whole event is really that important. Hmmm… now that I think about it, the guild existed from the beginning, only to show its real image later on after 2 years when Morgan completed his 2nd Class Quest and reached level 100. The more I thought about it, the more I understood what this event was about.
Put it in brief, it was a fancy guild recruitment party.
Alexandra kept on speaking about the tradition for the next 20 minutes, which many listened to while a few simply ignored it and continued feasting on snacks. I was the one later, since I never really got to hear about this party's history and such. I mean, by the time I was invited, I had already killed 90% of the members who were going to attend it.
Funny how fate works.
Though it was fascinating, the story mostly. It was based on a bloody situation where once the contents of the party were revealed in advance, mostly about the success of an heir, and then later a coup happened that destroyed the internal structure of half the underworld. There were a few more interesting stories of a similar nature, which did indeed end up in blood, but I had lost interest somewhere halfway since they had nothing to do with me.
By the time it ended, I found myself near the snacks table, eating a bunch of salted biscuits, waiting for her to get to the main part. Her partner, who I am pretty sure was Morgan, got closer to her and whispered something in her ear, at which she paused her story and then looked at the time.
"All right. Since it's time now, I will officially start the ceremony. Guards, please close the doors and tell those who arrive late to gracefully return," she spoke in a commanding tone before switching back to her smiling persona as she continued,
"As you all may have heard about the game Arcadia Online, I won't be explaining what the game was or what is important. Just remember that the ones who had planned this party are investing a huge amount of money into the game. We are planning to create a guild that we are going to develop far into the world of Arcadia. That will be one of the three main topics of today."
She paused before a hologram appeared in the air, showing the starter towns and scenery captured by the players in the game.
Which soon shifted to a very, very familiar scene in front of me.
"As for the other two, they will be focused on this man. His name is Ezekiel, currently the top player in this game," she added.
I looked at the scene of Ezekiel ready to hunt the devil in the game with the scythe in his hand.
Ah!
