Chapter 63: Just Kurt

"Just Kurt is fine."

"That doesn't really answer the question,"'said Talia.

"It never occurred to me that I would be."

"What?"

Kurt looked back at Talia and was a little confused.

Talia said, "You know, usually it's the guardian who is in control, not the fae, that is true even in my case though he chose me our roles are clear. They actually seem very passive about it, like protect me and the rest is fine. He sort of has a lot of influence himself though."

"I don't think that would work for us though."

"Why not?"

"Do we have to do this? Miss Spy."

Talia looked down, "Sorry, I know, I can't say I'm not going to tell the clan, it is my job. But I thought the goal was to be allies, I think we should know who is really in charge."

"Princess Layla is in charge, that is basically indisputable on our side, let's leave it at that for now. I don't think any of you thought differently."

"Interesting, so there is no King, she is basically Queen, not Princess," said Countess Talia, "I guess you get to choose your title at that level."

"And I thought Lord Fredrick was in charge of these negotiations."

"Okay, let's just keep watching Sara thirst after these men," and they chuckled.

"But I can think about letting you come to our side, Layla might have a condition though."

"Okay, and what would that be?"

"She'll probably demand to speak directly to your Fae of course, before anything else."

"And how would we do that?"

"Layla would do it."

"Do it?"

"You know, bring her to her well."

"I'm not following."

"Well, if somehow we could get her here and back, do you think that would be much of a problem? She will ask some questions, as a witness that you truly are not hurting her kind."

"I think that would be doable."

"Then maybe."

"Are you trying to bring me back to your place? Bold move mister" Talia pulled her hair behind her left ear, and smiled at Kurt.

"What if I am?" said Kurt.

"But what if I am a spy? And all of this is a trap to seduce you?" arching her back a little.

"What if it's my trap?"

"Ohhh," said Talia, scooting a little closer, "and what's the bait?" drawing her finger on Kurt's chest.

Sara had actually been doing her job somewhat, she was choosing a particular type of man, but they would all be fit to actually do the job as well, as far as Kurt was concerned it seemed like overkill with him there. And came back with two men.

"These guys seem alright for the job, and they come as a pair," said Sara.

"Yeah we've worked together on and off for years," said one of them.

Talia gave them an up and down, "I think they would do, what do you think Kurt?"

"So you know this is a more permanent position?" said Kurt.

"Yeah, that's part of the draw, consistent work is hard to come by."

"And you're okay being sworn to secrecy, in a rather serious manner."

"No problem with us, we don't have much in the way of family, my ma and pa are pretty old and not going anywhere."

"So what are your names?"

"Steve," said one.

"Tyler," said the other.

"Okay then, guess we just got to arrange it, we have a lot of time, where can we reach you?"

After gathering a few details, and Kurt giving an advance to show he meant business and wasn't wasting their time. The crew had decided they were done for the day. They found a close place to eat and shared a decent meal together, and separated from Talia, Kurt planned another meeting of course. She was 'dumb hot' in Kurt's eyes, the type that made a man stupid.

"Just gonna fall right into the honey huh." said Sara, after Talia had left for some of her own business.

"Like you'd do any different if it was some handsome prince."

"That's—"

"Oh after today it's fair. We saw you."

"Okay fine, but be careful you don't know what she's really after."

"Information, that if we ally she would find out anyway at least in my head, we are just holding our hand close to our chest, I mean what should I say yeah we also have an army of goblins forgot to mention that. Hell she probably wouldn't have even believed me thinking it was a joke."

"True, but also, what if they try?" said Sara.

"We fight back. Like the prince said, 'Offer peace not war.' Why does everyone try to make things so complicated? Don't we want allies, don't we want the approval of the government, we somehow landed in doing this all sort of the right way. And remember there is one more clan we don't know much about."

"And whoever made the gates."

"Yeah, who whatever that was. And gods know what else on the gate's side. They say some wild stuff."

Kurt had gone to see Layla, and asked about the two men and Talia, she seemed open to the idea.

"And you told her I would want to question her Fae?"

"Yes, I thought you would think that was important."

"If everything she says is true and confirmed by the Fae I see no reason not to negotiate an alliance," said Layla. "I assume she probably can't do the secrecy oath, as it would violate the clan's right as well, if she comes directly we can't really call it spying, but diplomacy."

"Then tomorrow?"

"Yes that would be fine, also I had to move the gate for Carl, unless you want to do that now?"

There was no reason not to, the hotel was not actually too far from the warehouse inside the city, so a short walk later Layla had moved the gate to where Carl had wanted, Kurt went back to the hotel as he was meeting Talia there in the morning, as well as managed to stop by the place the two men were staying, and told them to meet him at the hotel the next morning as well.
