10x Rewards: Becoming Invincible With My Sign-in System

Chapter 44: Water Problem

Just because he was nervous didn't mean Aegon let it interfere with his work. In the past fifteen years, he had brought many modern things into this world, so he had fallen in love with creating things that would help countless people.

So, he took this project very seriously and wanted it to be successful, and that's why he gave his all for it.

Though, most of the work was certainly done by this group he had received from Xiu as his first birthday gift. They were called the Red Viel, but he called them the Development Team since they were mostly used for construction these days.

He asked them to make the drainage channels and checked them again to make sure they worked properly. There were also a few more ditches he had to add to make things smoother.

He also added valves which would allow them to block water from coming in or going out depending on the situation. After all, if one of the many steps needed the water, he couldn't just open the channels for every step.

That would ruin the crops.

Just like that, they continued to make steps on the slopes along with the drainage channels. Their efficiency was very high considering the strength and endurance of these Development Team members.

When they got the hang of it, the speed at which they worked increased, and before they knew it, the five sets of steps reached the top, where they stopped a short distance away from the very peak.

"Hmm, let's make a basin here," Aegon said while rubbing his chin. "It could be a wrong idea, but I think it'll work. The basin can store water and help in better water control over the farms."

The Development Team worked on his orders and made five pits at the top of the steps. Then, they reinforced them by putting stones and slabs so the water didn't seep back into the ground.

Then, Aegon stood at the top while being surrounded by shadowy figures. They all stared at the five sets of giant stairs that led downwards along the slope. They ended midway, as if someone had abandoned the project halfway through.

"Hmm, this is perfect," Aegon smiled in satisfaction.

He had already checked them twice just in case they had made some mistakes, but everything was good. He didn't think there was a problem, and even if there was, they could identify it later when they tried checking the drainage system.

It had taken them a few hours to make all of this. It was already past midnight, and it wouldn't take long before the sun would rise from his slumber and shower the world with its warm radiance.

"Boss, everything is good but the problem of water still remains," Hecte pointed it out. "What do we do about it?"

"Let's make it then. It's quite easy," Aegon smiled and said. "We need wood, bamboo, clay…"

He listed out the materials they would need and then began ordering Miguel, who was quite skilled in blacksmithing, to get started.

This was actually the easiest part for Aegon, as all one needed was two wooden turning wheels, one at the top and the other half submerged in the water. But considering the distance, he had Miguel make three of them per set.

They would be connected with a long, thick rope made from water-resistant material. The same went for the wood, which was crafted from Lukewill Wood, a sturdy timber from a commonly found tree in the western parts of the Moonrise Kingdom.

Then, Aegon had them install several bamboo shafts that were hollow on the inside onto the rope, the upper part to be exact so it didn't hinder the rotation.

Seeing the preparations, Hecte quickly came to a realization as she asked, "Are you planning to use these bamboo shafts to bring water up?"

"Yup, they're quite thick so they can hold a lot of water," Aegon nodded as Jason and the others began to install the bucket-wheel system on the designated locations.

"It's a good idea, indeed," Hecte said, her voice filled with admiration but also tinged with confusion. "But it will be too taxing on the mundane people, don't you think? The only way I can think of is if they hired some Knight. Yes, that would be much cheaper, but still something that not everyone can afford."

It was true. The water was far down below, so even if the turning wheel system helped in easing some of the load, the mundane people would still get exhausted beyond their limits by bringing enough water into the stone basins.

"I have already thought of three methods for it," Aegon said, still smiling. "Hiring a Knight is one of them."

A Knight was someone who followed the Body Pathway, so they had enhanced physiques. They would obviously be able to bring the water with enough effort, and the best thing about it was they were common. Their services were cheap too unlike Mages.

Many farmers would be able to afford them, or even become Knights themselves. It might lead to some good developments where farmers would work hard to become Knights as well.

Considering the hard work they already did in the fields, it was clear they had more than enough Essence to become good Knights.

It was cheaper, affordable, and easier to access as a method.

"I can agree to this method," Hecte said, wondering how so many people could have missed something so simple. It wasn't some otherworldly invention like the ones Aegon usually came up with, yet nobody had thought of this before.

"The second method is even easier for those with livestock," Aegon said. "We can install a rotator which would power the bucket system by the movement of livestock. We've been using it for other purposes anyway."

In this age, it was very common for farmers to have livestock. Even the poor ones usually had a bull or two. They could use them to rotate the turning wheels which would bring the water.

The bulls, or any other livestock in general, had much more strength than ordinary humans, so farmers used them for lots of work.

Now, this would simply become one more use for them.

He smiled as he stared at the river and said, "The third one will use the river itself to power the wheels. A passive system where farmers don't need to do anything, and their stone basins will be filled."
