10x Rewards: Becoming Invincible With My Sign-in System

Chapter 115: Who Made Xiu Your Guardian?

At first, Aegon was confused by Amon's question, but he quickly understood the reasoning behind it. The Void Chamber had likely been with the Academy for centuries, so how many times had something like this happened?

Something told Aegon, not often. Whatever had happened here was likely triggered by him. Even he knew it it was true after remembering how the system had acted earlier.

Most likely, the system's existence was also related to that horrifying entity. But that also meant he couldn't say anything to Amon, since it involved the system.

Not that he would ever tell him anyway, because Aegon didn't trust Amon in the slightest. Only his loved ones deserved to know the truth about him.

"If you're suspecting me, then I'll say I'm just as confused as you are. This is the first time I've even learned about this place," Aegon replied calmly.

"Valid," Amon nodded, instantly believing him. "Then, can you tell me what you felt here?"

"As if this is a foreign world. An alien world. Everything feels so unfamiliar, even the air feels strange," Aegon continued, describing his experience in detail. "And I was scared when that thing appeared."

Amon rubbed his chin thoughtfully before pulling out yet another monocle and putting it on his right eye.

"Is that so?" he smiled and said. "Then, you've witnessed something you shouldn't have. Just so you don't leak it, I'm giving you one hour daily to spend here as compensation."

Aegon was speechless. He couldn't understand why this old man was being so suspicious so openly.

Before he could answer, his shadow suddenly stirred and rose up between him and Amon. A chilling, echoing voice came from it.

"Keep him away from your sick games."

"I'm just giving him an opportunity to improve," Amon replied, still smiling, his tone smooth as ever.

"I do not care, and if you insist on this, I can assure you this fight won't be easy for either of us," Hecte said, her voice cold as she raised her hand, manifesting a long, dark spear out of her shadow.

"Do you really want to do this?" Amon asked, his gaze sharp as he looked straight into her darkened form.

"Anything for his safety," Hecte replied without hesitation.

"Wait! There's no need to fight," Aegon hurriedly stepped between them before they actually clashed. "He said I can do that, not that I need to do that. It's my choice and I won't come here."

"Boss, your curiosity will drag you here," Hecte said, her tone softening a little, though her weapon remained steady.

'Damnit! Why does she know me so well?' Aegon clicked his tongue mentally before saying aloud, "No, I'll promise you."

"You think it's harmful for his safety, right?" Kai finally stepped forward, sensing the rising tension. "Why don't you discuss this with his guardian?"

"That is indeed a good idea," Amon nodded, giving Kai an impressed look before turning toward Hecte. "So?"

Hecte considered it for a moment before nodding slightly. "We shall do this, then."

Aegon heaved a sigh of relief when Hecte lowered her weapon. Although he was confident in her strength, Amon was just too strange, too creepy so he didn't want her to fight him.

"We can only contact them outside, so let's leave for now."

With that, all of them left the Void Chamber. Once they returned to the Lotus Palace, Kai separated from them, saying he needed to heal his internal injuries.

Meanwhile, Amon took the other pair to his office, where he motioned for them to sit on a sofa. Then, he looked at Aegon and said, "Call your guardian."

Aegon nodded, pouring his essence into the communication stone. It didn't even take a few seconds before a cheerful voice came through from the other side.

[Second call in the same day? Do you miss me that much, Little Sun?]

Hearing that voice, Amon's hand slipped from the armrest as he gave Aegon an incredulous look.

"I definitely do, but there's something I want to consult you about," Aegon replied, glancing at the dean sitting across from him.

[Hmm? What is it?]

"So, the Dean wants to send me into a suspicious place, and Hecte is against it. Do you think I can trust him?"

[That old geezer who refuses to die? The same man who's older than your Opa but uses cosmetics to look young? That fraud?]

Amon's lips twitched at that description. For the first time In a while, he couldn't bring out his usual smile.

Even Aegon had to cough to hide his laughter before saying, "Yes, but do answer my question."

[Obviously not. He won't harm you, but never take chances with a creepy old man like him. He's a snake, a low-quality one at that. So tell Hecte to take you out of there.]

"As you command, Chief," Hecte said, her voice carrying a beaming joy that anyone could feel.

[Yes, do that… wait! Something came up! Just do it, and I'll deal with the rest later.]

With that, the connection was cut off, leaving Amon sitting there, rubbing the bridge of his nose in visible frustration. He tapped rapidly on the armrest while muttering something that sounded like gibberish.

"Then, we'll do as we agreed. We're leaving," Hecte said as her shadow form rippled upward.

"Wait! Why did you call that lass?" Amon asked, still rubbing his nose.

"Because she's my guardian?" Aegon replied, confused.

"My dear dead Gods!" Amon sighed in defeat before speaking again. "Call your grandfather. He's more sensible. If you'd told me earlier that she was your guardian, I wouldn't have even let you call her!"

Aegon was certainly amused to see him like this, but he still nodded and prepared to call Arnold. In this situation, he trusted Arnold more than Xiu, since she could get a bit too emotional when it came to him.

"Actually, never mind, let me do it," Amon said, cutting him off as he used his own communication stone to contact Arnold.

Aegon shrugged and leaned back into the sofa, letting the old man handle it.

After a few seconds, a distant, emotionless voice came through from the other side. It was a voice Aegon was familiar with, yet at that moment, it sounded far colder as if belonging almost to a different person.

[It better be important, Goblin, or I'll have your head served to the Emperor.]

"Geez! Why is your family so violent? Can't you people talk nicely?" Amon rolled his eyes and said. "And yes, it's important. I encountered the big baby today."

[Who again?]

"The one-eyed bastard in the Void Chamber."

[… That's the big baby to you?]

"It whines like a baby, for sure," Amon said flatly.
