Closing his eyes, Aegon focused on the problem Kai had thrown at him. He was right. No Soul Cultivator had ever become a Mage before, but what if one did now? Would the world be confused? What actions would it take in its confusion?
The risks were too great to even think about.
So, he focused on finding a solution. How could he avoid that confusion?
After thinking for a bit, he mumbled to himself, "The base of both is the same, communication with the world, so the solution should also lie there."
His eyes snapped open as he turned towards Kai and said, "The world only acknowledges the Runes, not us, right? Otherwise, Rune Formations wouldn't work."
"You are somewhat right," Kai nodded with a faint smile. "We are too insignificant, after all."
"Then, the communication is like writing letters. What's the best way to fool the other side into believing two different people wrote it?" Aegon smiled, finally seeing the clue. "Change the handwriting."
"Impressive, my goodman. You found the solution earlier than the man expected," Kai nodded his head in acknowledgment. "You're right. Even though it may seem like Rune Formations and Rune Spheres are the same as long as they follow the same structure and meaning, they hold a different core, a core that separates one Rune Structure from another."
He put the cup down gently and added, "Change that, and the world will not confuse you. But there is a much better solution. Stop following the Mage Pathway."
"I won't do that," Aegon shook his head in refusal and said firmly. "I will follow all three pathways, even if it's a tough road."
"May the man ask why?"
"Because it's interesting and fun." Aegon shrugged lightly. "And Mages are better in surprise battles. Soul Cultivators are only better when they're prepared."
"I see. Since you have chosen the hard path, then you shall see it through," Kai said, unfazed as ever. "The man shall give you guidance too."
He stood up, prompting Aegon to jump to his feet as well. But then, without even turning around, Kai spoke again.
"Finish the tea first. It is disrespectful for the other person to leave like that."
He said that, yet his face didn't even change expression. Still, Aegon did as he was told and only followed the man after finishing the tea.
Passing through many corridors, they walked in silence, with only the wooden creaking breaking the serenity. The Lotus Palace housed only Soul Cultivators, and most of them were in their secret rooms. Not even servants were allowed here.
"What is your goal?" Kai asked softly.
"With Rune Mastery?"
Kai hummed in reply.
Aegon flicked out a high-grade mana stone and showed it to him. "This! I want to replicate this."
Giving a fleeting glance at it, Kai said, "Wasteful."
Aegon chuckled softly at his single-word reply. It was truly a wasteful research goal, but still, he wanted to do it for his own reasons. It was an important part of his larger goal.
"Since you are determined, my goodman, the man shall not distract you," Kai said as they stopped before a wall casually. He slid open the wall, revealing a small room barely large enough for a decent-sized bed.
But there was something inside that chilled Aegon to his core. Narrowing his eyes, he mumbled, "It exists... yet it doesn't."
"Your eyes are special, my goodman," Kai smiled and said. "This Void Chamber is unique, as it is cut off from the rest of the world. It is a separate dimension, even if you see it this way, it really isn't its true form."
"Wait! Doesn't this mean…"
Kai nodded and added, "You need practice to separate your signature from Rune Spheres and Rune Formations. Different signatures for different Essences. But if the world perceives you practicing that, it will yield failed results."
"There is no world inside?" Aegon asked in confusion.
"Something like that," Kai nodded in agreement. "It is complicated. The man cannot explain it to you unless you master the Twenty-Two Sutras of Soul Cultivation. It would be meaningless otherwise."
Sadly, Aegon only listened to him half-heartedly, as his focus was on this tiny room that consisted of nothing but a wooden floor and a soft mattress.
That was it.
Yet, he found it strangely attractive.
'It's likely a Rune Formation that did this, but it can only maintain it in this state. Someone actually managed to separate this dimension from the world's influence. Who is that powerful?'
He licked his lips in anticipation.
'If there's no world's influence, then it means I can practice without any resistance. I can read and remember things without an issue. This is just a treasure trove. I want this!'
Aegon had rarely ever wanted something so badly. Everything else had either been handed to him by his family or given through the system.
But now… now he truly desired this room for himself.
"You can't take it, my goodman," Kai said, easily seeing through his intentions. "There are only five Void Chambers in the entire Human Domain. We have two of them, and one belongs to the Imperial Family."
"Do I need Merit Points to access this?" Aegon asked, his heart sinking into his chest, eyes burning with passion for the room. "Is there no other way?"
"Yes, you need Merit Points for this. If you had become a Black Star, this would have been included in your Resource Pack, my goodman. The duration may vary, though," Kai explained as he raised his hand to close the wall.
"Wait! Let me watch it closely. Just once, please?" Aegon pleaded.
"Considering you possess exceptional talent in the Soul, the man shall make an exception. But this will be the only instance. You will need to pay with Merit Points from next time. Rules are rules."
Kai gave in after a brief moment of hesitation. Then, he pressed lightly on the sides before stepping into the tiny room, where his figure disappeared as if everything before them had been an illusion.
"Follow me, my goodman."
What he didn't notice was the evil glint that passed through Aegon's eyes. A crafty smile formed on his lips as a single thought flashed through his mind.
'I'm going to steal this right under your nose. It's going to be mine.'
