The next second, an ominous wave of killing intent surged through Grey's body. It grew more intense, morphing into a sharp gray light that seemed to slice through the air.
"Here we go," Seraphina murmured.
Seraphina understood immediately; Grey was about to unleash a deadly killing spree. For the truly strong, reasons were unnecessary. Killing was not about justification or cause.
If you want to kill, then simply kill.
Nonetheless, Seraphina observed closely.
Every killing by Grey seemed to strengthen the wave of killing intent emanating from him.
She had heard of this before—the more one killed, the fiercer the killing intent became. The path to cultivate killing intent was simple: kill more, irrespective of quality over quantity.
A strong individual versed in the art of killing could wield their killing intent just as freely as spiritual energy.
Seraphina realized that Grey's path of slaughtering both men and beasts alike was exactly how he nourished his killing domain.
Once Grey's killing intent flooded out, Iris, who stood opposite him, vanished suddenly.
When she reappeared, she was high above the inn, standing on Blessed Cloud Town's mountaintop. With a palm outstretched, she formed a seal.
A shimmering barrier swiftly expanded, coating half the mountain, including the entire town.
This was no attempt to hide. Rather, it was to ensure that no interruptions would disturb her young master's cultivation of killing intent.
In fact, the more outsiders who came, the better—more victims for the young master to kill, more tainted blood for his domain.
Below, the people of Blessed Cloud Town noticed the sky darkening.
They looked up, alarmed, as the sky turned a deep, ominous blood red.
Whispers and panic spread among them like wildfire.
Inside the tavern, the waiter carried the last dishes to the second floor, placing them gently with a polite smile.
"Sir, please," he said, bowing.
Grey barely spared him a glance.
Suddenly, the waiter felt a cold chill crawl from his feet to his heart.
In the blink of an eye, Grey was on him, hands flashing as he grabbed the man's neck and tightened.
The waiter's face flushed purple as he struggled for breath, utterly clueless as to what he had done wrong.
"Why... why?" the waiter gasped, breathless.
"The chicken doesn't taste good," Grey answered flatly.
Crushing with unbearable force, Grey's palm tightened further.
Then, ice spiritual energy condensed into sharp blades in his hand.
He launched the gleaming ice shards with lethal precision.
In an instant, the inn became a slaughterhouse.
All inside fell, blood gushing as the ice blades pierced their necks—none survived.
To their last breath, none understood how or why death claimed them.
Grey's eyes burned red with bloodlust as he wielded two ice blades, stepping out of the inn to continue his massacre.
Under the cold, ghostly moonlight, the inn's vicinity was draped in ice and splattered with blood.
The carnage was horrific.
Seraphina exhaled deeply, shutting her eyes tightly, unwilling to witness further.
Outside, Grey's blood-red eyes gleamed with murderous desire, his killing intent surging to its peak.
He grinned like a demon, teeth bared in feral joy.
.....
Three hours later, a golden radiance streaked across the western sky.
Althea flew swiftly toward the mountain forest, her golden wings radiant with an ethereal aura.
She frowned, sensing something amiss below.
"Why is the air thick with the stench of blood? Such strong ice spiritual energy... residual killing intent."
Althea hovered midair then descended quickly.
Landing on a broken tree, she gazed over the scene.
The entire town and surrounding mountain were encased in a thick coat of frost.
Though autumn reigned, this area bore the scars of a brutal winter's freeze.
She stepped gracefully down from the tree into the devastated town.
Every house lay in ruin, debris scattered everywhere.
But she knew the horror was far from over.
Broken limbs littered the streets, half the town painted red with blood.
Frost-coated corpses stood like frozen statues in the bleak cold.
"This man isn't weak, so why slaughter so many innocent lives?"
Althea's brow furrowed in growing confusion.
Why kill these people?
Pressing deeper into the region, she found three towns laid waste in identical fashion.
Each was a massacre.
"Is this what these evil cultivators do? Kill for power?"
Born of extraordinary lineage and experience, Althea mused quietly.
"Killing is a dangerous path. It dulls the mind, increasing the risk of possession and eventual death."
"Killing is hell. Such cruelty will incur retribution. No one escapes punishment."
Her eyes hardened as she jumped high, leaving the carnage behind.
Though her original path led to Noble Sun City, she altered course.
She would arrive later but avoid crossing paths with these evil cultivators.
From her sensing, the icy killing intent below belonged to one powerful in the Mahayana Realm.
Better to avoid direct confrontation.
Althea wasn't afraid of this cultivator reaching Noble Sun City.
The city was a gathering of cultivators and the approaching Treasure Appraisal Conference would gather countless powerful masters, some even nearing the Supreme Realm.
Those following the path of killing were doomed to fall there.
"My family's speed means they'll find me within a month at most," she thought.
"I don't have much time. I must find Junior Brother Ethan soon."
Her calm demeanor mirrored Ethan's, but worry flickered in her eyes.
.....
Meanwhile, in the Vernal Dawn Royal Family's clan hall.
A guard rushed in, urgency in his every step.
Six people lined the hall's sides, gazes heavy with tension.
At the center stood a middle-aged man in black robes.
He wasn't angry but emanated a noble, fierce aura that stilled all others.
"How shameless, for the clan hall to be thrown into such a panic!" he thundered coldly.
"Clan leader, there is grave news!" the guard replied urgently.
"Speak," the man commanded.
"Six...His Royal Highness Bram Vernal's soul tablet has been extinguished, along with Mr. Willow and our famed Imperial assassin, Senior Gilbert."
The guard knelt, voice shaking.
Shock rippled through the hall as eyes met in disbelief.
The man stood silent, the weight of the news pressing down.
