Speed Villian: Fugitive from the stars

Chapter 30 – The weight of Yellow lightning

"Perfect victory for Kael-X! He has achieved triple glory!"

The announcer's voice thundered through the arena, almost trembling with excitement. The crowd's roar was deafening—chants of Kael-X! Kael-X! shook the very walls.

The scoreboard flashed:

+3 Advance Points.

+2000 UN Dollars.

Kael glanced at the glowing numbers beside his name.

"Three advance points…" he muttered, lips curving into that familiar smirk. "Just one more to Rookie 2."

He stretched lazily, lightning still flickering faintly across his body as if reluctant to leave him. His gaze drifted upward, past the cheers and chaos, locking onto a private balcony where a certain someone sat.

Samantha.

Even from a distance, her presence calmed the storm in his veins. Kael tilted his head slightly, whispering under his breath with a chuckle,

"Two thousand dollars richer… Maybe I should take you to dinner, Samantha."

Two Shadows Under the Moonlight

Later that night, the streets were quieter, bathed in pale silver moonlight. Two figures walked side by side, their steps in perfect rhythm.

The first was Kael, dressed in a crisp white fitted shirt tucked into loose black trousers, his long sheen-blue hair catching the glow of streetlights. The second, Samantha, in a short black skirt and neat white blouse, her long green hair cascading like a waterfall down her back.

Her fingers intertwined with his as she looked up at him, eyes narrowed playfully.

"Why do you always toy with those guys? I know you're stronger than them. You drag fights out like some cruel cat with mice."

Kael glanced at her, expression unreadable. Then, with that lazy, cocky tone, he replied:

"I'm not toying. I'm observing."

Samantha arched a brow. "Observing, huh?"

"Every fighter, every style… I learn something from all of them. Even the weak ones."

She gave a soft "hmm," though her lips curved into the faintest smile. She knew there was more behind his words, but Kael never revealed everything.

---

The Ambush

The calm was broken. Kael's stride slowed, his gaze shifting briefly behind them.

"…We're being trailed."

Samantha blinked. "What? Already?"

Kael smirked faintly. "Mm. Let's take a turn. Easier to slip away."

They veered off the main street, entering a shadowed side path beside an old building. The silence there was heavier, pressing against their senses.

Then—figures emerged from the dark. Five men, rough, tense, and searching.

"Where did he run to now?" one growled.

Another spat back, "Are you asking us? He's too damn fast."

A third snapped, "This is his city. Either him… or the girl. Doesn't matter. We catch one, we win."

They scattered quickly, splitting into alleys. None noticed the calm duo already concealed in the shadows above them.

Kael leaned closer to Samantha, his lips twitching in amusement.

"Idiots."

She exhaled slowly, shaking her head. "Tomorrow, if you're coming to school… wear a hood, okay? It'll keep the stares off you."

Kael glanced at her with a lopsided grin. "Fine."

Samantha pecked his cheek softly, her voice gentle. "Bye."

Kael's smirk softened for just a second before he replied,

"Bye."

And in the blink of an eye, he was gone—his form dissolving into a streak of yellow lightning that zipped into the night.

A Familiar Voice

By the time Kael returned home, he barely had a chance to catch his breath before a calm, cold voice pierced through the silence of his room.

"You went to fight at the arena."

Kael froze, his eyes narrowing. He didn't need to turn around. He already knew the voice.

The figure stepped out from the shadows, arms folded, gaze sharp.

"Or do you think I wouldn't know you are Kael-X? You even dared to use your lightning."

Kael smirked faintly, slipping his hands into his pockets.

"And what of it?"

The figure tilted their head, eyes glinting. "Yellow lightning… does it truly exist? Because it has never appeared in the history of element wielders."

For a brief moment, Kael's eyes flickered dangerously, but then his smirk deepened.

"Yes." He lied without hesitation.

The silence that followed was heavier than thunder.

The silence stretched long, heavy as iron chains. Only the faint hum of residual lightning in Kael's veins broke it.

The intruder leaned casually against the wall, the faint moonlight slipping through Kael's window painting sharp lines across their face. Their tone carried no panic, only cold curiosity.

"Yellow lightning… I've studied every known elemental archive. There is silver, revered as the fastest and purest. There is crimson, feared for its destructive frenzy. But yellow? Never once recorded. Not in ancient scrolls. Not in forbidden tomes."

They paused, eyes narrowing.

"So tell me, Kael—what are you?"

Kael's lips curved in that dangerous half-smile. He walked slowly toward his bed and sat, leaning back as if this was the most casual conversation in the world.

"What am I?" He repeated the words with amusement. "I'm just a student. Don't overthink it."

The figure's brow twitched. "A student who just shattered Bruno Deca's nineteen-win streak in a single strike. A student whose lightning bent the laws of nature itself. Do you expect me to believe you are… ordinary?"

Kael tilted his head lazily, brushing a strand of his long blue hair away from his eyes.

"Believe whatever helps you sleep at night."

The calmness in his tone was maddening, like he had absolute control of the moment.

The Intruder Presses

The figure straightened, their voice sharp now.

"Do you know what kind of storm you're summoning? The higher echelons will not ignore this. Even the Blazing Medites are sniffing around after Bruno's fall. Yellow lightning, Kael—if it spreads, you'll have every hunter, clan, and sect aiming at your throat."

Kael chuckled under his breath.

"Good. Let them try."

The lightning in his eyes sparked faintly, just for an instant. Enough to remind the intruder of what he had displayed in the arena.

For the first time, a trace of hesitation flickered across the intruder's face. But they quickly masked it, folding their arms again.

"Arrogant. One day, that smirk of yours will be your downfall."

Kael leaned forward, elbows on his knees, and smirked wider.

"Or my signature."

---

Unwanted Warning

The intruder exhaled, realizing pushing further tonight would yield nothing. They turned toward the window, their figure half-shadow, half-moonlight.

"If you insist on playing the fool, then remember this: the world will not stay blind. The moment your lightning spreads beyond this city, you'll be marked. And no corner of Earth will hide you."

Kael didn't even flinch. Instead, he stretched out on his bed, lying down as if already done with the conversation.

"Thanks for the bedtime story. Now close the window on your way out."

The intruder froze for a heartbeat, glaring at him, before finally leaping through the window in a blur of motion.

---

Kael Alone

The room grew quiet again. Kael lay there in the dark, staring at the ceiling, the smirk gone now—replaced by something colder, sharper.

He raised his right hand, watching faint sparks of yellow lightning dance between his fingers.

"So… they're already starting to notice." His voice was a low whisper, almost drowned by the crackle of energy.

Instead of worry, a small laugh escaped him.

"Good. Let them come."

His eyes burned with a storm's glow.

"Because I'll break every single one of them."
