Chapter 161: The Kasein Family Makes a Move
The foundation of the Red Eagle Territory was naturally inferior to that of the Fertile Territory and Cold Ridge Territory.
The entire territory only had five Fourth-Tier Bloodline Users, unlike the Fertile Territory, which boasted as many as eight.
However, in contrast, because the Red Eagle Territory had lacked a sufficiently powerful grand lord to keep things in check over the past few decades, the entire region had been in a state of near lawless growth. As a result, it had produced a Fifth-Tier Bloodline User.
Moreover, this Fifth-Tier Bloodline User was not from the family of the Marquis of Red Eagle.
Normally, the most powerful family in a territory would be the Bloodline Nobles holding the highest title. If another vassal family within the territory produced a highly talented genius, that individual would inevitably be recruited into the ruling family through marriage, adoption, or various other means—never would they be left outside. If those methods failed, that genius would often not live long.
Take, for example, the Antares Family of the Count of Fertile Plains. They would never allow any other vassal family within their domain to host a Fifth-Tier Bloodline User. Fourth Tier was the absolute limit. Currently, there were two Bloodline Users in the Fertile Territory who showed potential to advance to the Fifth Tier—one was the candidate to inherit the title of Lord of the Fertile Territory, and the other was Midmo Karco from the Karco Family of the Western Wind Territory.
Midmo Karco was the younger brother of Russell Karco, the current lord of the Western Wind Territory. Originally, the position of lord should have gone to him. However, once Count Shuvaric discovered his talent and potential, he immediately supported Russell Karco to become the Baron of Western Wind Territory, then recruited Midmo into his family, appointing him as Vice Captain of the Antares Knights and marrying his own daughter to him.
Although in name Midmo still bore the Karco surname, since he had been summoned to serve as Vice Captain of the Antares Knights under Count Shuvaric, he had never returned to the Western Wind Territory, not even once. Even his own children were not raised by him, but were instead educated by the Antares Family—instilled with loyalty to the Antares, and taught to view themselves as siblings to the rest of the Antares Family.
It could be said that nearly all Bloodline Nobles in the Tyrella Kingdom followed this same system of marriage alliances and incorporation.
Only the Red Eagle Territory had deviated due to the legacy left behind by the Bourbon Family. The entire territory had fallen into a state of uncontrollable, lawless growth. By the time Marquis Visen officially took control of the Red Eagle Territory, many matters were already beyond reversal—such as the relationship between the Kasein Family and the Senels Family.
Had Marquis Visen still been in his prime, and had Burton not died, then with the series of plans Visen had implemented upon returning to the Red Eagle Territory, twenty years would have been enough to completely suppress the Senels Family.
But unfortunately, there were no ifs.
Thus, the decline of the Kasein Family in the coming decades had become inevitable. They even changed their previous family development strategy, choosing instead to focus all their resources on cultivating the youngest generation of the Kasein Family—Monica's greatest advantage over her uncles was her youth, giving her a considerable chance of advancing to the Fifth Tier. However, it was apparent that reaching the Sixth Tier was beyond her, and so the family’s resources were to be allocated more conservatively.
And if they wanted a stable period for development, they had to resolve the Red Eagle Territory’s greatest threat while Marquis Visen was still able to act.
That threat was the Senels Family of the Bayor Territory.
Therefore, over the past two years, all the Kasein Family’s seemingly defensive strategies had actually been preparation for this decisive battle.
They allowed the Senels Family to grow unchecked, even secretly accelerating the progress of their various projects. The underlying goal was to divert their attention and drain their family’s foundation: whether it was offering profits to merchants or attempting to shift the economic center, all required the Senels Family to invest substantial manpower and resources upfront.
But the economic backbone of the Bayor Territory was based on slave trade and agricultural development.
In terms of agriculture, they had long designated areas of arable land, and these plans would not change just because the Senels Family shifted their economic strategy. Therefore, this portion had to be preserved. Commercially, however, new plans had to be made, and suitable areas were limited—they had to be near the Red River Canal.
The Red River Territory was an inland port city. As long as construction and investment followed the Red River Canal, the Red River Territory would not suffer much loss.
According to the Senels Family’s schemes, the Red River Territory would eventually fall into their hands. Hence, the port docks they had been building in the Bayor Territory were all preparations for their future settlement in the Red River Territory. They planned to convert the entire area into a storage zone, retaining only the slave trade, and turning it into the largest slave market in the Red Eagle Territory.
After all, the Bayor Territory was known for its grain production. Transforming it into a slave market would minimize transportation costs for food. During the busy farming season, these slaves could serve directly as labor. Moreover, the massive workforce required for the storage areas could also be sourced from these slaves.
In the Senels Family’s grand blueprint, once they secured both the Bayor and Red River Territories, they would have solved the major issues of economics and agriculture. They only needed to survive the initial “development pain period” to enter an era of rapid family growth.
To this, the Kasein Family responded: your plan sounds great—but it’s about to become ours.
This reminded Yam of the Kasein Family’s bloodline: the Six-Armed Martial Armor Demon Ape.
Thus, Yam became acutely aware.
Marquis Visen was serious about annihilating the Senels Family.
“I really hope this battle doesn’t ruin such a beautiful territory.”
At that moment, Yam didn’t dare say anything and could only lower his head.
“How is Aches doing? Has he decided what bloodline to awaken?” However, Marquis Visen clearly didn’t expect Yam to answer and instead continued, “If aptitude testing is needed, he can come to the Eaglehead Territory.”
“My father intends for him to awaken the Earth-Thorn Beaked Bird.”
Marquis Visen’s brow furrowed slightly upon hearing this. “Is his aptitude not very good?”
The Earth-Thorn Beaked Bird was a Second-Tier Magical Beast. It was neither particularly strong nor particularly weak, falling into the category of average beasts. However, it had one issue: its extreme vengefulness. Once provoked, it typically fought to the death, which was why many demon hunters avoided it. After all, as a bloodline, its abilities weren’t especially potent, and no Third-Tier evolutionary path had yet been discovered. As such, it was considered to have little value as a Magical Beast Material. Unless there was no other choice, no one would hunt this beast, let alone use it for a bloodline awakening.
However, the issue of no known Third-Tier evolution path for the Earth-Thorn Beaked Bird was not a concern for the Soderbell Family.
What Ion and Yam truly valued was the Earth-Thorn Beaked Bird’s terrifying regenerative capability—something even some Third-Tier beasts couldn’t match. As long as the injury wasn’t crippling, even shattered bones could fully heal within a month depending on the circumstances.
This meant that unless Aches was crippled or killed instantly, he would likely be back on his feet and moving normally within one or two months. When used in conjunction with the Demonic Sword, he wouldn’t need the long recovery periods that Yam required every time he used Nirvana. Now that Yam had advanced to the Third Tier, the Nirvana effect of the Demonic Sword no longer worked on him. Therefore, he planned to temporarily hand the Demonic Sword over to Aches until Cindy awakened her bloodline.
“That’s not it,” Yam shook his head. “He is my eldest brother’s only bloodline. My father and I worry that something might happen to him in the future. Upon hearing that the Earth-Thorn Beaked Bird had considerable reproductive capability, we hoped at the very least that my elder brother’s line could produce more descendants.”
Marquis Visen glanced at Yam but said nothing more. He merely chuckled softly and withdrew his gaze.
Suddenly, he raised a finger and pointed forward. “The war has begun.”
Yam’s heart clenched. He immediately looked in the direction Marquis Visen had indicated, only to see a massive burst of flames suddenly erupt ahead, followed by a chorus of battle cries.
“I’ll take care of killing Agley. Dean and the others all have their assignments, so I’ll give you one as well. Is that alright?”
“Please instruct me,” Yam responded promptly.
“Stay right here,” Marquis Visen said slowly. “Atork Senels will attempt to flee through this path. Your task is to kill him.”
Yam’s heart tightened. He nodded solemnly. “Yes. …Thank you, Marquis Visen.”
“The intel you provided was very useful and saved us a lot of trouble.” Marquis Visen shook his head slightly. “You don’t need to thank me. This is your own merit. I am simply letting you settle the score with your enemy.”
Yam said nothing. But the way he gripped his longsword tightly, and the blazing battle intent in his eyes, spoke volumes about his resolve.
