Chapter 160: Magical Beast Cub

“Waaah——”

A piercing cry, like that of a newborn baby, echoed through the Lord’s Manor of the White Mountain Territory.

In the main hall, the physician, maids, guards, and even the kitchen staff were all thrown into a frenzy.

“Liar! Cindy is a big liar!”

Through broken sobs, Liam still managed to yell a few angry shouts at Cindy.

Cindy, who stood to the side, also began to panic.

But her panic wasn’t because Liam had just cursed at her—it was because she saw Yam draw his sword.

“It’s not like that! Liam just reacted too slowly, that’s why he got bitten!”

Liam’s eyes widened in disbelief.

Do you even hear what you’re saying!?

“This beast can’t be allowed to live!”

But Yam knew very well his daughter’s nature and wouldn’t be deceived by her words. He insisted on killing the Shadow Panther cub.

He didn’t know how Cindy had discovered the Shadow Panther, but today she had taken Liam to see the cub while everyone else was distracted, resulting in Liam’s right hand being ripped open with several deep, bone-revealing wounds. It was no better than when he had once been struck by a falling weapon rack. If this magical beast cub hadn’t just entered its growth phase and was still underdeveloped, it might not have stopped at just scratches—it could have taken off his entire hand.

“Little Black is very obedient!” Cindy rushed forward to block him.

“You even gave it a name?” Yam froze for a moment, then flew into a rage. “This isn’t some pet cat or dog. It’s a magical beast!”

“But it really is obedient. Normally, it’s not like this at all. It doesn’t even act aggressive toward people. This was just an accident.”

“Roar——”

Having suddenly been brought into this hall, the magical beast cub was already in a state of high alert. Now, with the killing intent emanating from Yam drawing his sword, the cub was finally overcome by intense fear and instinctively bared its teeth at Yam, assuming an aggressive posture.

The hall fell into a sudden silence.

Even the footsteps of the servants exiting the room unconsciously lightened.

Yam’s expression turned even darker.

At that moment, Akar felt a twinge of regret. He thought that he should have listened to Anna back then. If he had just killed the magical beast cub earlier, his son wouldn’t be suffering like this now. Half a year ago, when the weapon rack collapsed, he had been scared half to death. Afterward, Anna had furiously scolded him for failing to protect a child properly.

Now, only six months later, Liam was gravely injured again. Thankfully, the physician said there was no bone damage, or else Akar would be worried whether Liam could ever wield a sword with his right hand again.

So naturally, he supported Yam’s decision to kill the Shadow Panther cub.

In fact, everyone in the hall supported Yam’s decision.

After all, Liam was injured this time. Next time, it could very well be Cindy.

Especially since Cindy clearly hadn’t just discovered the cub. She had already formed some emotional attachment to it—she’d even named it. That was not a good sign.

“Cindy, be good, listen.”

“Little Cindy, don’t be stubborn.”

These were the voices of Sherry and Lily. They even moved forward to pull Cindy away.

“It’s not like that. Little Black is usually very obedient. Really.”

“Roar——!”

Akar let out a soft sigh. “Little Cindy, how about Uncle Akar catches a few panther cubs for you to play with later? This is a magical beast cub. Magical beast cubs can’t be raised like hunting dogs or other animals. Once they grow up, they’ll turn on their owners. Look—it’s already this aggressive…”

“It’s really not like that. Little Black is truly obedient. When I feed it, it always eats obediently.” Cindy continued to argue.

“Roar-woo——”

But the magical beast cub clearly disagreed.

It believed its roar had successfully intimidated the two-legged creatures, keeping them at bay. So it let out a third roar in excitement.

“Smack——”

This time, however, its roar was met with a heavy blow.

Cindy smacked the Shadow Panther cub on the head, making it stumble. The force was clearly not light—it wobbled from the blow. But after taking the hit, it suddenly became much more well-behaved. It no longer dared to growl or roar. Instead, it quietly sat beside Cindy, letting her pinch and pull at it without resistance.

“Look!” Cindy held the cub up with both hands like she was proving a point. “Little Black really is obedient!”

Everyone in the hall couldn’t help showing a trace of surprise.

Perhaps Ion, Lily, Sherry, Jinna, and Aches didn’t know what the cub’s usual temperament was like, but Yam and Akar certainly did. They had examined and observed it multiple times. Their conclusion had been unanimous—magical beast cubs weren’t suitable for rearing. They could not be tamed. Even with a mix of stick and carrot training, the result was always the same.

But now, the Shadow Panther cub that Cindy held up resembled a kitten caught by a human—nothing like the ferocious beast from before. This was truly surprising.

After all, based on Akar’s intel, even in their juvenile stage, magical beast cubs’ ferocity could hardly be suppressed. It only grew worse with age.

Akar took a few cautious steps forward.

The cub immediately bared its teeth at him.

But that action earned it another slap from Cindy.

Akar halted. The cub, after getting hit again, stopped baring its teeth and instead looked quite aggrieved.

Akar moved two steps closer again. The cub instantly started baring its teeth once more, apparently forgetting it had just been punished for that very behavior.

As expected, the cub got another smack.

But since Akar didn’t stop, the cub kept baring its teeth. As he approached, it assumed a pouncing stance. But when Akar retreated, widening the distance again, its hostility and aggression gradually faded. When it sensed that Akar had stepped out of its safe range, it finally dropped its aggressive posture.

Yam instantly understood what Akar was trying to say.

He tried stepping forward as well. The cub immediately turned its head and glared at Yam.

Soon after, it received another smack from Cindy.

But even though it glared fiercely at Yam, it didn’t show any violent intent toward Cindy.

Yam stepped back out of its attack range and exchanged a look with Akar. From their eyes alone, they both understood each other perfectly.

“How have I taught you all this time? As a man—and someone who aspires to become a knight—how can you start bawling the moment you get a little hurt? Do you think that’s acceptable?” Akar turned his head and scolded Liam. “You can’t even endure such a minor injury? Looks like you’ve had it too easy.”

Liam stopped crying.

He looked at his father in disbelief.

“All right, all right. He’s just a child,” Ion couldn’t bear to watch any longer and finally spoke. “Back when you two were his age, you were even more troublesome than him... Since Cindy wants to raise this magical beast cub, then let her keep it for a while. If it hurts someone again, then we’ll kill it.”

“It won’t, it won’t! Grandpa, Little Black is really obedient!”

Cindy quickly spoke up to Ion, then ran toward him holding the magical beast cub.

However, the cub, seeing itself getting closer to the two-legged creatures, began struggling again. But Cindy clearly knew how to handle it—she switched from cradling to lifting it, grabbing the loose skin at the back of its neck with one hand and covering its mouth with the other.

“See? Very obedient.”

Watching Cindy’s actions, the others couldn’t help but break into a cold sweat for her.

But they were even more surprised that the magical beast cub still didn’t attack Cindy.

A flurry of hurried footsteps suddenly approached.

Everyone turned their heads toward the entrance.

Under everyone’s gaze, Roda quickly came to Yam’s side and said gravely, “The people of the Kasein Family have arrived.”

“Who came?”

“Knight Commander Dean.”

Everyone’s breath caught for a moment.

Three months ago, Yam and Akar had both advanced to Third-Tier. Afterward, they spent two months recovering and consolidating their strength and condition. Only then did Yam write to Monica, informing her that he had reached the Third-Tier and could now fulfill the deal made with the Kasein Family.

Monica later responded, stating she would immediately begin advancing the plan and that someone would come to escort Yam.

Then they waited—for a whole month. It wasn’t until a week ago that Yam received a letter from Monica, stating that someone would arrive within ten days at the latest. That was when Yam immediately wrote to Akar, urging him to come to the White Mountain Territory.

Originally, they had thought Monica herself would be the one to escort Yam. Given her status and position, it would have made perfect sense for her to act as the Kasein Family’s contract executor. It would have been more than suitable. But unexpectedly, Marquis Visen personally sent Dean Seia instead. As a Fourth-Tier Bloodline User, Dean surpassed Monica in strength, status, and rank.

This signified Marquis Visen’s high regard for Yam.

At the same time, it was a very direct display of power: Very well, you’ve finally advanced to the Third-Tier. But I already have Fourth-Tier Bloodline Users.
