Chapter 608 - Trap within a Trap (Part 1)

Chapter 608: Trap within a Trap (Part 1)

Under Su’s protection, Narnia did not sustain any injuries. She would have been able to deal with her opponent easily even without Su. Mages would usually try to put an end to a battle quickly because they would not be able to last in a prolonged battle like a silver grand swordmaster.

Facing an enemy of this grade, Su did not care too much about how much sword aura he was using. As long as he could direct his sword aura from the tip of his long sword through the enemy’s armor, the white-robed warrior was as good as dead. Most of the white-robed warriors that were charging towards him had already sustained wounds caused by the soldiers of the royal swordsmen camp.

Su felt a bit guilty to be dealing with opponents that were below the grade of swordmasters that were already injured. If he was still in his clan, this type of opponents would have been dealt with by the bodyguards. His main target should have been the enemy’s mage or general.

Saleen’s expression became colder. The proportion of elements were incorrect and the imbalance was too great. The water element was so dense that the temperature began to drop. The fog continued to absorb heat and so more and more dense clouds began to appear in the sky.

“Uncle Fellet!”

“Saleen. What happened?”

“Look, the enemy seems to be preparing an even more powerful attack, but I cannot find the array’s weakness.”

“The enemy’s target is not Narnia, it is the entire group of soldiers. We have been trapped. If the reinforcements have also been trapped here, Northtown will send even more reinforcements.”

Realization suddenly dawned on Saleen. “Yes, Narnia is extremely valuable to me, but not to the Tanggulasi Empire or the Holy See. I was too blind!”

The Holy See should not have gone to such great measures just for an envoy, even if Safilos’ rumors might have played a small part. Looking at Fycro, surely not everyone in the Holy See was stupid. Those that were would not have been able to continue surviving in the Holy See.

Even so, this divine spell would likely succeed in killing all the soldiers. At this point, Saleen decided to take out a dimension stone, retrieved gigantic metal components, and began to piece them together into a metal barrack. This barrack was given to him by Lex, who used it to survive the sandstorm in the purgatory desert. Back then, the men from Holy See lacked such an equipment, so all of them perished.

This barrack was built only for fifty people and Saleen had two-hundred and fifty men with him now. If everyone tried to squeeze in, it would be cramped like the storage room on a fishing boat.

The materials of this barrack were not rare, but the cost of creating it was high. Saleen borrowed it from Lex to study and see if he could find any other suitable replacements and use them in his own army. Just nice that it could be put to good use now.

“Cuisi, I want corpses that are fully intact.” Saleen could vaguely sense the critical points of danger. Although he would not be able to thoroughly destroy the array, at least he knew how to minimize the damage.

The white-robed warriors attacked without any care for their own lives. Once they died, their souls were absorbed by the array within Green Dragon Stone. The men of the Holy See were preparing for their final attack.

Cuisi took out his long whip. It had been newly refined and was eighteen yards long. They were no longer covered with sharp thorns. Instead, the end of the whip had a magic totem in the shape of a serpent. The long whip whipped through the clouds with a loud hiss, but the sound and exact location of where the whip would land were not the same.

Cuisi handled his weapon deftly. Every time the long whip lashed out, a white-robed warrior’s brain was smashed then pulled over to Saleen. Saleen used his dimension stone to keep these corpses. Cuisi was extremely fast and very soon, Saleen had taken more than one-hundred white-robed warrior corpses.

The dimension stone could buffer against the effects of divine spells so the souls of these warriors were all kept safely.

In the center of Green Dragon Stone, the red-robed Bishop suddenly felt the turning of the array begin to slow down. He scanned the area and discovered what Saleen was doing.

“A dimension stone!” The red-robed Bishop was agitated. This item was extremely precious to holy priests.

Dimension stones were similar to chlorites as both could contain divinity. Before chlorites had been mined to the point of being fully exhausted, dimension stones were rarely found on the Myers Mainland. Mages and holy priests had searched the entire mainland, but did not manage to find any mines that contained dimension stones.

“This damned mage is actually using a dimension stone to do such a disgusting thing!” He could not do anything about it except tolerate it. The array had not been fully completed so he could not leave his place. If he asked the black deacons to take the dimension stone, they would surely keep it for themselves.

At this point, the red-robed Bishop began to worry. If the two black deacons discovered the mage’s dimension stone, would they try to take it for themselves? If that was the case, not only would he not get the dimension stone, the array could not be completed either!

The dimension stone was more expensive than the ice island rock. Within the Holy See, the ice island rock was awarded by the Pope to the most pious disciples and only six were given out every year.

Saleen was not aware that his actions had been seen by the enemy. His original intention was to force the enemy into unleashing their attack prematurely. He released all his puppets to construct the metal barracks with the soldiers. After killing more than two-hundred men, the metal barrack had been completed. Saleen said, “Let’s all go in. Leave the warhorses behind.”

“No!” The soldiers of the royal swordsmen camp were so anxious that they forgot about Saleen’s status as a mage and rejected him outright. These warhorses were their companions, how could they leave them behind?

Saleen was not upset because he understood what the warhorses meant to them.

“This is a gigantic trap. Once it is complete, all the fog will turn into flames. I cannot protect so many warhorses.” Saleen’s voice was infused with a queer wind-element spell. The change in frequency could not be detected by humans, but it had an effect of convincing the listeners. The warriors were no longer so agitated, but they still could not bear to leave behind their companions.

Saleen also felt that it was a waste. Now was not the time to be stingy. He gave Aini a glance. Aini had been observing Saleen’s actions all this while. He tried to transform the enemy’s corpses into undead soldiers, but that only hastened the decomposition of the corpses. Now that Saleen had given him the green light for the warhorses, Aini did not hesitate.

Death transformation!

This was a grade-4 spell that was used only on creatures that were grade-3 and below. These warhorses had been trained well and possessed the bloodline of grade-2 beasts, otherwise they would not have been able to carry soldiers clad in metal armor into battle for such a long time.

Grim beams of light appeared and the warhorses were being transformed by Aini into spirits of the dead. Their flesh was being torn away from their bones and they cried out in pain. The warriors were furious, but there was nothing they could do against a grade-6 death mage. All of them were red with anger, but it was covered up by their faceguards.

The red-robed Bishops realized what Saleen was doing and was momentarily taken aback. He did not think that Saleen would bring along such a huge metal house

Although the mage was dressed in a queer fashion, he must at least be grade-5 or he could not possibly own such an expensive spatial equipment.

The dimension stone was different from the devil ring in that the former could be used directly while the latter would need to be refined by a mage. If one was lucky, one might be able to pick up a dimension stone in the wild. An equipment that took up such a large space could never land itself in the hands of an ordinary mage.

Saleen was killing the warhorses so that they could be transformed into spirits of the dead and be stored in the green spirit gemstone. His train of thought was clear and he knew what the final result of the array would be. It would be a terrifying trap. Without such a huge metal house, all the soldiers around him would be burned to death. Only those that he was able to protect would survive.

As for those Qin elite soldiers that had come to attack, Saleen could not afford to care about them. He vaguely saw about one-thousand knights approaching before being trapped in an independent dimension. They were only a few hundred yards apart, but they could no longer communicate with each other.

“Narnia, I need your phoenix spell,” Saleen requested. His metal barrack has been constructed and both death warhorses and skeletal warhorses had been kept by Aini.

Seeing Narnia’s hesitation, Saleen said, “Take these first.”

Saleen gave Narnia a crystal white ring and a piece of dragonshard. The core of the dragonshard had already been used up so only a few shattered pieces were left. These two items could quickly restore mental strength and magic chords each.

Upon seeing these two items, Narnia stopped hesitating and began to prepare her spell.

“Aini, escort your parents in.”

“You don’t need my help anymore?” Fellet asked with a smile. He was pleased with how Saleen was commanding with composure.

“The real battle has yet to come. Let’s survive this round first,” Saleen said and began to prepare his spells. Aini’s bodyguards had all entered the barrack while the soldiers of the royal swordsmen camp insisted on leaving behind a small troop of fifty men to help Cuisi with the white-robed warriors that were still fighting on.

Saleen took in a few deep breaths and said to Narnia, “After I say ‘begin’, release the phoenix ten seconds after the last note ends.”

Narnia could not open her mouth so she only nodded.

The red-robed Bishop did not know what Saleen was up to. He noticed the two mages preparing their spells and ignored them at first. When the female mage released a gigantic phoenix that was paired with a restorative magic cast by the male mage dressed in a colorful robe, the phoenix began to rise. Wherever it passed, water elements that had solidified into fog began to burn.

The red-robed Bishop was shocked. Making water elements burn was something that existed only in high-level divine spells and could only be cast by at least a grade-8 holy priest. This was also the key to the array. That mage was now burning off large amounts of the fog prematurely which would greatly reduce the power of the array.

If the two mages could not be stopped, then the only thing left was to start the attack earlier.

The red-robed Bishop helplessly took out a book, gently flipped it open and began to chant the prayers.

“To the mighty God, my Father, please listen to my plea…”

The red-robed Bishop’s prayers had only just begun and the temperature of the fog in Green Dragon Stone was already increasing rapidly. Outside of Green Dragon Stone, the six enormous mountains were also revealing a red light.
