The Frugal Mage

Chapter 172: Familiar Figure

From behind, a wave of robed figures emerged…

The mages had finally arrived!

The Mage Association's elite casters, flanked by battlemages from the Adventurers Guild, joined the fray!

Their arrival gave life to their defense…

Spells began to fly! Fire, wind, lightning, and other spells were released!

"Oh flame that dances in bloom…

Crimson Petal!"

"Oh winds that slice unseen…

Razing Gale!"

"Oh current that binds…

Aqua Bind!"

The mana veil around the golems began to protect their bodies, but no matter what, they could still be overwhelmed…

This was especially true for the Golems targeted by Rayven himself…

His Fireballs were stronger than the Adept Mages after all!

Just like that, with the combined attacks, physical and magical, they had finally started to break through. One golem staggered as a fireball struck its chest, followed by a knight's blade piercing the exposed core.

Another collapsed as a wind spell knocked it off balance, allowing archers to target its joints.

The tide hadn't turned yet, but it had slowed the Golem's momentum…

Even with the arrival of the mages, the battle remained brutal.

The Iron Golems continued to push forward, their numbers slowly thinning under the combined efforts of knights, archers, and spellcasters.

Some collapsed from sustained damage, and others were disabled by precise strikes to their joints. But for every golem that fell, two more pressed forward. They also had incredible regenerating ability if their cores weren't destroyed!

At this time, Rayven remained near the rear formation, staff in hand, while scanning the battlefield.

He had cast several fireballs earlier, each one stronger than the average Adept Mage's spell, but he had to be careful.

This wasn't a duel, it was a siege. Every Tier 2 spell cost him gold, and he doesn't have unlimited gold.

He couldn't afford to waste resources unless absolutely necessary.

"I'll cast when it counts," he muttered, watching as another golem was brought down by a knight's hammer and a well-placed arrow to the core.

His contribution wasn't flashy. It wasn't constant... But he would do so at crucial moments to help the ones on the front line...

"This doesn't look good." He muttered.

The defenders continued to fight, slowly pushing back the Iron Golems. The trench had helped. The catapults had done their part, and the cannons had softened the advance. And now, the mages were helping to stabilize the line.

However, the golems were still coming.

Eventually, the front line reached the base of the city wall.

Rayven felt the tremor before he saw it.

Thud! Thud! Thud!

The Iron Golems had begun to strike the wall directly.

Their fists slammed into the stone with terrifying force, sending shockwaves through the ramparts.

It was a scary sound, especially for the people inside Hesa City!

Golems are simply too difficult to deal with!

After all, they do not feel pain, unlike other Beasts… Burning them wasn't ideal as well, considering they have iron bodies…

It would take a long time before burning the cores inside their bodies.

It might even be their knights and warriors to suffer from the possible use of oil…

Bang! Bang!

Dust and fragments rained down from above. Cracks began to form along the outer layer of the wall, and the defenders scrambled to reinforce the base.

"They're punching through!" one of the officers shouted.

"Reinforce the supports! Don't let them breach!"

Rayven took a step back, watching the wall tremble under the repeated blows.

The Iron Golems weren't just attacking… They were dismantling the structure as if they were controlled by someone.

'Those Silver Golems…' Rayven mused…

And then, the pressure changed.

From behind the Iron Golem formation, eight new figures emerged.

They were taller, glossier, and far more refined in design. Their silver bodies were undeniable in the battlefield, and their movements seemed more human-like compared to the weaker Golems.

The Silver Golems had arrived.

Several mages reacted immediately, launching spells in their direction.

They wanted to test how strong these Silver Golems really are.

Soon, a Tier 2 lightning bolt surged forward, only to vanish before impact. Then, another Tier 2 ice lance shattered mid-air, as if it had struck an invisible wall.

Rayven narrowed his eyes.

If Tier 2 Spells don't work against Silver Golems, then there was no way he could do anything about these Golems!

After all, his Tier 2 Spells were only Stabilize and Scout's Recall! They weren't even for offensive!

"They're not just resistant," he said quietly. "They're nullifying everything."

The Silver Golems advanced without pause, ignoring the spells and arrows aimed at them. Their presence disrupted the rhythm of the defenders.

The mages who had been confident moments ago now hesitated, unsure of what to do.

Rayven didn't cast.

He couldn't afford to waste a coin against such opponents. As a matter of fact, they had to deal with the Iron Golems first!

Thud! Thud! Thud!

The knights tried and the adventurers worked really hard, but in the end, they were still pushed back inside the city wall!

They couldn't stop the Iron Golems!

In the end, they only eliminated more than 200 Iron Golems!

"Ahh! The Silver ones are here!" Another Mage was shocked seeing how the golem just suddenly appeared in front of the wall!

Just like that, Rayven watched as one of the Silver Golems raised its arm and delivered a single, devastating punch to the wall.

The impact was immediate.

Boom!

Stone cracked, and dust exploded outward. A section of the wall buckled under the force, and several defenders were thrown back, their formation broken!

Rayven shielded his face from the debris. When the dust cleared, he saw the breach!

It was wide enough for the Silver and Iron Golems to pass through without resistance.

"They're inside…" he muttered.

The defenders scrambled to regroup, but the situation was deteriorating rapidly. The Iron Golems had already pushed the city to its limits, and now the Silver Golems were walking through the breach with no signs of slowing down.

Rayven knew that unless something changed soon, Hesa City would fall.

But as he was thinking of retreating, he noticed that the leaders of various organizations seemed to be waiting for something.

It means that they must have something else in mind that could turn this situation around!

'What are they planning?' Rayven thought as he soon noticed a figure floating above Hesa City!

His eyes lit up as he recognized the familiar figure of a Tier 5 Mage!
