God of Technology: Creating the Internet in Another World

Chapter 208: Want More?

After entering the dragon Council of Elders, Ren finally understood why that building outside the mountain could only be called a landing pad!

Going through the entrance next to the landing pad, he discovered that the massive mountain had obvious excavation marks and signs of age inside. It seemed like it had been hollowed out a long time ago.

Countless gems glowed with a soft light, illuminating the cave until it was bright as day.

At the enormous height above, who knows how many dragons were flying around. Their living spaces were basically 'cave dwellings' dug outward from inside the mountain peak.

Who would've thought? From the outside, the mountain looked pretty ordinary—maybe just a bit taller than average. But inside, it was like an underground city, housing countless dragons!

"Pretty impressive, right?" The Goddess of Magic held Ren's hand and said with a laugh. Somehow her voice could only be heard by Ren—even the Holy Dragon they were riding couldn't hear it.

"How do I put this... This place is completely different from what I imagined. I thought maybe they'd live in a huge palace complex, or maybe they'd each just live in caves. From primitive to a social structure similar to other civilizations—I'd considered all of that. Hell, even if they were ahead by an entire era, I wouldn't be surprised."

Ren's expression was a bit odd. "But I never expected them to be... so unique."

"Haha, dragons are naturally incredibly powerful—there's no way they'd bother researching technology. The fact that they even have the current system is only because back in the day, different dragon species fought each other so hard they almost went extinct. The main purpose of this system now is just to keep dragons from killing each other."

The Goddess of Magic explained with a laugh. "As for this mountain situation, actually when they first started the Council of Elders, they just wanted to find a big cave..."

After all that explanation, Ren finally got it. At first, the Council of Elders only had seven dragons. They'd just found a big cave. But later, as the number of dragons in the Council kept growing and the number of Consuls increased too, they had to keep expanding the cave.

Later on, the dragon power structure was fully designed, more and more dragons needed to live here, and it became what it is now.

The huge area in the middle was for flying, walking, and group activities, while the smaller caves carved around it were for living. If the dragon population kept growing, they'd start digging downward... Eventually forming the current setup.

After learning all this, Ren understood why the entrance looked level with the outside, but once you came in, you needed to fly.

Just then, Little Dragon Totoro dove down, landing in a spot at the very center of the entire Council of Elders. The other dragon elders did the same.

"Great one, you may call me Nidhogg. Or, like other dragons, you can call me the Dragon of Despair."

The lead black dragon's voice was incredibly deep. Even though his words were somewhat humble, they still conveyed supreme authority. "I am the Supreme Councilor of the Council of Elders."

"I know. I met your ancestor Leviathan. Back in the day, he held your position too. Tens of thousands of years have passed, and I can't believe this place hasn't changed much from back then."

The Goddess of Magic's casual words made all the Council members' spirits lift. Just as they thought—this was indeed the legendary Goddess of Magic. Leviathan, the first dragon in this world to use magic, and from him, dragons mastered dragon language magic. And his teacher was none other than the later Goddess of Magic!

"We dragons aren't particularly fond of change," Nidhogg said, though deeply shaken, he still managed to keep himself calm.

Not fond of change?

That's just because there's no motivation to change!

Ren didn't believe that for a second.

But he wasn't in a hurry to say anything. He just followed the Goddess of Magic, accepting the dragons' hospitality. During this time, the dragons even showed them dragon entertainment... gladiatorial combat!

If the God of War were here, he'd be absolutely thrilled...

Actually, Ren, who held war authority, felt the same way. Even though dragons didn't worship gods much, whenever they fought, whenever they clashed with each other, whenever they bled, Ren would receive at least some faith power.

And so, Ren and the Goddess of Magic actually ended up staying at the dragon Council of Elders for three whole days. Every day was feasts, watching performances, playing with Little Dragon—nothing else.

Finally, on this day, the Dragon of Despair Nidhogg couldn't hold back anymore and asked: "Respected Goddess of Magic, what exactly is the purpose of your visit?

If you want our dragon race to worship you, honestly, even the Council of Elders can't make that happen. We can only help you spread your faith, but in the end... there probably won't be many dragons who choose to believe. You know us—we're too powerful. In the mortal realm, we basically never face any crises."

As the most powerful race in the mortal realm, dragons actually understood the relationship between mortal beings and gods pretty well. They knew exactly what kind of groups were more likely to worship a god. Obviously, dragons weren't on that list.

"Do you want to have more dragon offspring?" The Goddess of Magic didn't take the bait. Instead, she changed the subject completely.

And it was a topic that the Dragon of Despair Nidhogg couldn't refuse.

The more powerful a creature, the harder it is for them to reproduce. This was the balance that the rules of heaven and earth placed on all living beings.

Dragons, as the most powerful race in the mortal realm, naturally had the hardest time reproducing. For dragons to have an egg of their own...

Under normal circumstances, it would take at least 300 to 500 years. They could lay a maximum of three dragon eggs in their lifetime, though honestly, being able to lay two was already pretty good.

And those dragon eggs weren't even guaranteed to hatch. Even if they did hatch, because dragon hatchlings were so incredibly tiny—or rather, because adult dragons and hatchlings were so disproportionate in size—it could lead to all sorts of accidental deaths...

One of the reasons the Council of Elders existed was to try to increase the dragon population, but after tens of thousands of years, they'd barely made any progress.

Could it be that the Goddess of Magic wanted to...

The Dragon of Despair Nidhogg's breathing grew noticeably heavier. His eyes, as he looked at the Goddess of Magic, seemed a bit unfocused in that moment. "Are you saying... you can help us have more dragons?"

"Not me—technology. The God of Technology." The Goddess of Magic wasn't surprised by the dragon's transformation. She just smiled and shifted the focus to Ren.

"Dragons have poor reproductive ability, long gestation periods, difficult hatching, and hatchlings that are hard to raise... I'm guessing these problems have been haunting you dragon leaders for a while now, right? You desperately want more dragons, but you've never had a solution?" Ren said in a tempting tone. "But I have a way."
