Dusk (BL Light Novel)

chapter 149

Of course, seeing the other tanks and DPS still diligently farming Hoom and Shamans, it didn’t look like the surrender had been a team decision. If someone typed “open” and told us to just come in when they could’ve voted to surrender, that meant the team was split—and the surrender had been voted down. These days, people throw the match at the slightest early-game loss. Opening mid-match, surrendering, just abandoning the game. It wasn’t always like this. People used to at least think about how to flip the game somehow, even when they were behind.“We’ll win clean at this rate. Or they’ll surrender,” Gang Jaegyung ✧ NоvеIight ✧ (Original source) said with a deflated voice, clearly having the same thoughts as me after reading chat.“No kidding… But damn, you really jinx things like a pro.”“It’s not a jinx. With me and Yeong here, how could we lose?”And just like that, Gang Jaegyung had fully gotten used to calling me Yeong—only a few minutes later. He’d kept watching my reaction, and since I didn’t object, he must’ve decided it was okay. Not that I minded being called by name. In fact, calling each other “Mr. Go” or whatever felt weirder between friends. But still, this was the line. Gang Jaegyung dropping honorifics and going full informal speech? That’d be a step too far. While we chatted casually and helped our DPS level up, the word Victory suddenly burst across the top of the screen in bright gold—the game was over. Just like we thought, the other team had voted surrender, and we won by default.[All] PlumpHamster (Miira): keeps getting fucking deleted and the goddamn carry just drops his hands and ruins the whole Laton player pool LOL[All] JuicyBooty (Pond): why do we have to suffer just ‘cause he rage-quit on his own? These chats popped up just before the result screen. Looked like emotions were flaring and they’d started fighting. Not sure why they had to do it in all-chat, but hey—it made for a decent show at the end.**[All] StickyRice (Berry): if you’re not gonna fucking peel for the carry, don’t pick tank/support heads. Aegis dives and you just eat it with him, what the hell are we supposed to do[Team] Gando (Olavia): LOL they're fighting now, they're all *** anyway[Team] Gando (Olavia): thanks for the carry, tanks—kills were tastyGando (Olavia) has left the match.[All] GodHandWriter (Gazelle): solo tank, triple ranged comp, if support had done more maybe we could’ve lasted... shame[All] Decaffeinator (Sola): tried my best to keep an eye on Aegis, didn’t work out, sigh... GG allDecaffeinator (Sola) has left the match.[All] PlumpHamster (Miira): solo tank or not, ranged should help peel—how long do you expect tanks/supports to spoon-feed you? play proactive, guys LOL[All] StickyRice (Berry): what fucking peel are you expecting from triple ranged comp, you dumb*?**[All] StickyRice (Berry): no vision, Aegis kept diving, what the hell did the support actually do?[All] JuicyBooty (Pond): lol~ bottom of the damage chart~[All] StickyRice (Berry): how the fuck do you expect me to top damage when Aegis keeps shutting me down? Pond, maybe try thinking for onceHonestly, the enemy team’s real issue was just team comp… Sure, skill level played a part, but compared to our balanced lineup, their triple-ranged setup was doomed from the start. If they were going to rage like this after losing, they should’ve picked better from the beginning. And Berry… really was awful. Couldn’t position, missed skills, and the result screen showed they were dead last in damage, just like the others said. The empty cart rattles the loudest, I guess. As I watched the all-out flame war, I suddenly remembered I wasn’t alone and glanced to the side—only to immediately lock eyes with Gang Jaegyung. Why was he staring at me instead of watching the trainwreck unfold? Was he just eager to queue for the next game?“Wanna queue again?”“You’re not enjoying the chat? If you want to stick around, go ahead.”He said it like he was trying to be considerate, glancing at the chat himself—but I could tell it wasn’t doing anything for him.“Nah, it’s fine. The match was boring anyway. The chat’s the only mildly fun thing. Let’s go again.”Just as I was about to leave the game, a new message popped up—not in all-chat, but team chat.[Team] HotPoop (Migo): lol what a mess[Team] HotPoop (Migo): thanks for the smooth bus ride, Retaking and Aegis ㅎFirmPoop (BlackHippo) has left the match.HotPoop (Migo) has left the match.…Wait, they knew he was Retaking a Class? I thought Gang Jaegyung had totally fooled them.“Wow, how’d they figure it out? Did they know and just play along?”“They were standing still for a while earlier… maybe they searched then.”Really? I didn’t even notice that. Man. They were chatting with me the whole match, and still managed to pick up on that.Anyway, we backed out of the post-game lobby, still watching the enemies hurl censored insults at each other, and queued up again. We got lucky—match popped the instant we clicked the button.Once again, I was set to play tank. Gang Jaegyung was still support. But this time, somehow, the team’s preferred roles ended up as: tank, support, tank, support, tank.So basically, three tanks and two supports.[Team] FindingNemo’sDong: ??[Team] Dingdigidiridingdigiding: ?[Team] FoundNemo’sDong: what is this?[Team] FoundYourNeck: did the tank-support trio just match into another tank-support duo?[Team] FoundNemo’sDong: LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLWhat kind of trio queues with two tanks and a support?[Team] Dingdigidiridingdigiding: my duo’s a support main, he can take support, I’ll go melee DPS insteadAt least I fought for one spot. Gang Jaegyung nudged in, trying to angle for a compliment like, “Aren’t I good at support?”, but I ignored him.[Team] FoundYourNeck: I play good support too, bro[Team] Dingdigidiridingdigiding: he’s been interviewed too[Team] FoundYourNeck: huh?[Team] FoundYourNeck: seriously??[Team] FoundNemo’sDong: wait for real?[Team] FindingNemo’sDong: damn, I knew that name looked familiar—he’s that guy!So people still remember me like this, huh. Made me feel kinda proud.[Team] FoundYourNeck: if he’s that level, guess I gotta back off;[Team] FoundYourNeck: not great at DPS but I’ll give it a shot, lolNice. Secured Gang Jaegyung’s support role. Been a while since I played melee DPS anyway, but honestly, it’s way easier than tanking—less mental load. Not a bad change of pace. The best part is sticking to the enemy DPS and making them freak out like, “Why won’t this bastard die?”I was about to lock in my melee character, figuring roles were settled—[Team] FoundNemo’sDong: let’s not do DPSWhat?[Team] Dingdigidiridingdigiding: huh?[Team] FoundNemo’sDong: bros, do we really need to win?I mean, winning is great, sure—but you don’t have to win. Sometimes it’s enough just to enjoy the game, even if you lose…[Team] Dingdigidiridingdigiding: nahI replied, then glanced at Gang Jaegyung. He met my eyes and just shrugged—he didn’t seem to care either way.[Team] FoundNemo’sDong: then let’s[Team] FoundNemo’sDong: all play tank/support lol…Did he just say we should all go tank and support?[Team] Dingdigidiridingdigiding: oh no[Team] Dingdigidiridingdigiding: LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO[Team] FindingNemo’sDong: ooh[Team] FoundYourNeck: let’s have fun lololol[Team] FindingNemo’sDong: let’s go, tank-support duo bros, LET’S GO[Team] FoundNemo’sDong: full tank-support tree, only teamfights, let’s gogoA team made entirely of tanks and supports. It’d be ridiculously hard to kill anyone on the enemy team, and as the match went on, we’d be increasingly disadvantaged—but for harassment, it was the perfect comp. We wouldn’t have the damage to finish them off, and they wouldn’t have the tools to kill us easily either.Unless someone gave up, it’d be a fight that refused to end.
