Meera had flown not far when she found the source of the singing. It was coming from a treehouse. She still had quite the distance to travel, but it wouldn't be a problem for her. The problem was everything surrounding it.
There was a veritable army of Druvis roaming around the tree upon which was the treehouse.
There was no way that she could get to the treehouse without fighting at least a dozen or more Druvis. If she even fought a single one, it would trigger the rest, and they would bring more and more. Even she couldn't take on that many, no matter her level.
She stayed high up, where she had avoided detection from them so far. She racked her brain trying to find a way around them. She saw Kyldars, Exarions, more than two dozen Zhythars, and others.
The humming from the tree was constant, as if whoever that was didn't care at all that he—Meera was quite sure it was a he—was surrounded by an army of dangerous monsters.
What to do? What to do?
She had dealt with punching her way through most things until now, but her encounter with the Glacidrak had shaken her confidence. It had proved to her that she wasn't infallible. Besides, she didn't know if the person in the treehouse was friendly or not.
She decided to find out.
She shrugged and flew a little lower, where she hoped her voice would be loud enough for the man in the treehouse to hear.
"Hey!" Meera shouted.
That was all she could get out before the druvises went mad. They were roaring, screeching, and chittering as they looked around, trying to find the source of the sound. Then one of the Zhythar's spotted her. It gave a guttural sound, and its pack looked up at the sky. They began to climb a tree to jump off it, and Meera flew higher to get out of their reach.
The tree started to bend under the heavy monster's weight until it finally broke. The top half fell, on some other Druvis, and then there was no calming them down.
Meera knew that if she went down to fight them, she would be done for. She had to stay up here where it was safe for her and bring down enough death and devastation that she could scare off the rest. She doubted it would work, but then again, she had seen stranger things. But for her to do that, she needed to do something that she would never have done in the palace.
Once she might have been naïve enough to think that no one was watching, but these worlds had smartened her up enough to know that there were eyes on her at all times. Munral must've had his Reapers watching her at all times. Even outside the palace, in case she didn't start the end of their precious empire.
So, with no one watching her, she would turn all her regular chakrams into level 2.
She had twenty-five regular chakrams, which meant she could use twenty-four of those to create twelve Level 2 chakrams. She pulled two off her arms and brought them together. She ran Mana through them, and they merged when she applied a little pressure. There was a bright flash, and a moment later, she had a bigger, wider, and, best of all, stronger chakram.
She did this eleven more times, until she had twelve new Level 2 chakrams.
She took out a Mana potion and drank one to refill her Mana. Her Mana had gotten to such a high level that a single potion didn't do the trick. She had to drink another one to refill it completely.
With that, she was finally ready to take on the horde of druvis who had already gone somewhat crazy, but the crazier part was that the man had still not stopped humming. Either he was hard of hearing or the treehouse was soundproof.
Using Mirror Bolt, she pulled off all her chakrams, and they floated in the air. It took a considerable amount of concentration to levitate them all. She had never done this before. Never had twenty-seven chakrams floating in the air at the same time. The most she had done before this was probably like eight.
The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
Lastly, she used Shadow Coating to give them the extra kick. Then she let fall the rain. She let them drop and propelled them with Mirror Bolt, and from her height, they fell like shining starry missiles.
They cut through the trees like they were nothing and fell on the dinosaur-like monsters, who never stood a chance. The notification bells rang in her head, threatening to deafen her. She wished she could turn them off, but unfortunately, she couldn't. But they also brought a smile to her lips as she could feel the carnage she was unleashing.
Down below, the Druvis were dying by the minute as she maneuvered her chakrams hither and thither. Hunting them down, like they were homing projectiles meant to lock in on anything that moved. The sounds of roaring turned into wails and moans of agony.
Finally, the Druvis ran, and she recalled her chakrams back to her. They came zipping back. She stopped them before they all came to her hands. Half of them she hung from her back, and the other half, she shrunk down to the size of regular chakrams. After all, if she returned to the palace with all the chakrams on her arms gone, it would be noticed by Munral and his ilk.
With all that done, she finally floated down to ground level and saw, up close, all the destruction she had wrought, and it was not pretty. Druvises were lying in pieces everywhere. Their blood had washed the ground black as their organs spilled out on the ground. It was perhaps the most gruesome sight she had ever seen. It was worse than a butcher's shop.
Some were still twitching as they clung to life. She flung a chakram, putting an end to their misery, and then she noted a pack of injured Druvis limping away. She saw no reason to let that experience go, so she flicked a finger and her chakrams raced after them and ended them as well.
Finally, she was ready to meet the man in the treehouse. Hoping that he would be glad to be free of all these druvis. She had taken two steps towards the treehouse when she felt the ground shake. It started slowly at first, but then violently.
She frowned at the random earthquake, but then she heard hissing coming from the ground. She didn't know the ground could hiss like that during an earthquake. She noticed that the tree on which the treehouse sat was unaffected. Then the ground began to shift, and a small mound raced around the treehouse and straight toward her.
Her frown deepened, but she immediately knew this was no natural earthquake. She took to the air at once and just in time as the biggest snake she had ever seen burst out of the ground and lunged for her.
She dodged to the right just in time, but she was bewildered at this new monster. She must've been thirty feet in the air, and it had no problem rising that high to strike at her. It was thicker than most tree trunks, and its fangs were longer than Meera herself and dripping with a clear poison, but the worst was its eyes, which glowed green and yellow.
[Basilisk – Level 744]
Meera whistled. "Finally, something worth fighting. You're going to give me a lot of experience, are you not?"
The basilisk turned towards her and looked her straight in the eye, and suddenly, there was a heaviness in her head. She frowned and then realized that she couldn't frown. She felt around her head, and her eyes had turned to stone. And the petrification was slowly heading outwards to cover her whole head.
Oh shit!
Meera quickly activated Greater Vitalize, and the petrification stopped, but did not reverse. Whenever her body would heal itself a little, the petrification would return. It was like the two were fighting a battle to see who would win. All this while the snake kept its gaze on her. It didn't strike, nor did it spit poison at her. Nothing. It just waited for her to turn to stone.
With a start, Meera realized that she could still see thanks to her mirror armor, and second, that it was the snake's doing. As long as it held her gaze, she wouldn't be able to heal herself.
She hurled two Ice Balls at its face, and only one of them connected, but it did the job. It froze one of its eyes. The snake shook its head around and broke its line of sight. Meera's healing skill healed her fully, and her eyes were back.
Before the snake could lock its vision on her again, she covered herself entirely, with her armor—face, hands, and all, leaving only two holes for her nose to breathe.
The basilisk recovered and stared at her with hate, but she was ready for it. She didn't know what she would've done if she didn't have her healing skill. This thing was even more dangerous than dragons, for at least they couldn't kill her with just a stare. And she prayed that she would get that skill when she killed this thing.
The basilisk hissed, which was almost as deafening as a roar.
Meera wished she had a skill that let her reply in kind, but she had nothing. She figured the poor snake was just frustrated that it couldn't petrify her. Maybe that was how it got so strong. It just petrified its opponents and went about its day.
She couldn't fight it on the ground, where the basilisk had the advantage. She would have to fight it in the air, but it would rob her of her teleportation, and it would save her from being crushed to death.
Once I kill it, I seriously hope there won't be anything stronger waiting for me.
With that, she pulled off her chakrams and got ready to fight one of the strongest creatures she had ever fought.
