Upon Taiyin Star, there isn't only the Deity of the Moon within the Guanghan Palace, but also the Moon Elder and the Marriage Hall.
Bai Jin, carrying a Tianhe Spirit Fish, traversed the Endless Star Domain and arrived at the desolate backside of Taiyin Star.
Rolling hills formed a continuous mountain range, different from the desolation of other places, as these mountains were lush with greenery. Little sprites glowing with luminescence flitted between the peaks, and a massive tree that reached towards the heavens grew tall. Its branches and leaves emitted light and warmth, illuminating the entire mountain range, where numerous little foxes not yet transformed ran and frolicked.
A palace nestled within this mountain range.
Bai Jin, carrying Tianhe Black Fish and floating mid-air, approached the mountains with a smile on her face.
Beneath the great tree, an elderly woman was knitting a sweater with red yarn, her face adorned with a kind and friendly smile.
Bai Jin landed under the great tree and called out as if offering a treasure: "Lady, look what your Disciple has brought for you?" holding up the Tianhe Black Fish in her hand.
Lady Yue Lao glanced at it and chuckled: "A Tianhe Spirit Fish. It's rare to see one so big."
"Just caught this one, and immediately brought it as a gift to Lady," Bai Jin replied.
"Hehe~ Why not offer it to the Primordial World? I have nothing valuable to give you in return." Lady Yue Lao maintained her smile throughout.
"Lady, do you think I'm so superficial? No matter the status or position, in your Disciple's heart, you are always the most exalted.
Today your Disciple will prepare for you a dish of chopped chili fish head."
Lady Yue Lao smiled and nodded.
Bai Jin immediately carried the black fish towards a distant palace, clearly familiar with the way.
…
Moments later, exquisite delicacies adorned the table beneath the great tree, all shimmering with Divine Light and surrounded by auspicious clouds. Any one of these dishes, if a mortal were to take a bite, could ascend to immortality on a cloud of dawn light.
Lady Yue Lao was savoring the food carefully while Bai Jin, full of anticipation, inquired: "Lady, how does it taste?"
Lady Yue Lao gently nodded and replied with a smile: "Good! I quite like it."
Bai Jin joyfully said: "Lady, I'm glad you like it. I'll often come by to cook for you in the future."
Lady Yue Lao indulged in the cuisine while Bai Jin shared various amusing tales from the Primordial World.
"Lady, after Marshal of the Heavenly Canopy descended to the Lower Realm, he settled in Yunzhan Cave, claiming a territory as a demon and daringly intending to take a mortal woman as his wife, which is truly audacious."
Lady Yue Lao put down her chopsticks and said: "The trial of love is a necessary tribulation that Tianpeng must experience. Gao Cuilan is his challenge.
If he sees through it, this tribulation will pass. If he remains stubborn and insists on marrying Gao Cuilan, his trial will have only just begun.
All these years, Tianpeng has been restraining himself because he knows this is his trial of love."
A movement of emotion crossed Bai Jin's face as she said: "Lady, what if Gao Cuilan were to become an immortal?"
Lady Yue Lao looked at Bai Jin and asked, "Are you planning to aid Tianpeng?"
Bai Jin nodded.
Lady Yue Lao swept her hand forward, and a piece of red thread appeared in the air, its middle section faint and intermittent, as if it were about to break.
"This is the marriage destiny of Gao Cuilan and Tianpeng. At this moment, it's about to snap. If you enable Gao Cuilan to become an immortal, this thread of fate will solidify once again. Then, whether it turns out to be a blessing or a curse for Tianpeng will be difficult to predict."
"So, the severing of the marriage destiny means Tianpeng has overcome this trial of love?"
"Quite the opposite; the severing of the marriage destiny signifies that Tianpeng is choosing to escape, turning his trial of love into an insurmountable chasm, which will also become his vulnerability in the future.
Now, what do you plan to do?"
Bai Jin stroked her chin in thought for a moment, "This matter still requires discussion with Xuandu, seeing how he plans to deal with Tianpeng."
Lady Yue Lao laughed and asked, "What about you? How would you choose?"
Bai Jin looked up, puffed out his chest, and said proudly, "Naturally, I'd bravely move forward and accept the challenges."
"What if there are multiple trials of love? What would you choose then?"
Bai Jin was startled for a moment then said matter-of-factly, "Only kids have to choose. I'm an adult. Adults naturally want it all."
Lady Yue Lao's face darkened, and with a flick of her sleeve, she shouted, "Get out!"
"Ah~" Bai Jin screamed miserably as he spun into the air and disappeared into the vast Star Domain.
"Daji~"
Daji flew out from the Divine Palace and bowed respectfully, saying, "My Lady!"
Lady Yue Lao spoke calmly, "Strengthen the marriage destiny between Marshal Tianpeng and Gao Cui Lan, and observe any changes at all times."
"Yes!" Daji replied respectfully.
"Cut off all the marriage destinies for Bai Jin."
Daji looked up at Lady Yue Lao, bewildered, and couldn't help asking, "My Lady, all of them? But he's Emperor Gouchen."
"Cut them off for me!"
"Yes!" Daji answered respectfully again.
...
On another path, the White Dragon Horse was slowly pulling a lavish horse carriage, with Sun Wukong wearing a traveler's robe sitting on the shaft handling the reins. Inside the carriage, laid with warm blankets, Tang Sanzang sat amidst them, sewing garments.
Beside them was a small stove with a teapot on top, from which steam bubbled up vigorously.
Tang Sanzang looked up and said, "Wukong, stop for a minute!"
At the tug of the reins by Sun Wukong, the carriage came to a creaking halt.
Tang Sanzang pushed open the carriage door and stepped out, shivering involuntarily—it was truly cold outside!
Sun Wukong scratched his ears and cheeks, asking, "Little Monk, what's wrong now?"
Tang Sanzang handed over a tiger skin and said with a smile, "Wukong, the weather is getting colder. Using the tiger skin I personally hunted, I have made a piece of clothing for you. Try it on and see if it fits."
Sun Wukong immediately became wary and said, "Little Monk, you're not trying to put another spell on me, are you?!"
Tang Sanzang said sadly, "Wukong, how could you think so lowly of your master?"
Sun Wukong pointed to the prayer beads around his neck and let out a strange chuckle, "You've done it before."
Tang Sanzang coughed and said sincerely, "Wukong, this is a tiger skin skirt that I painstakingly sewed for you. It wasn't granted by Guanyin, how could it be enchanted with a spell?"
He spoke generously, "Just put it on, Wukong. If there really is a spell, recite the Tightening Spell, and it'll be the death of me."
Sun Wukong looked at the sincere Tang Sanzang and took the tiger skin skirt, saying, "Then I'll trust you one more time." He unfolded the tiger skin skirt, a makeshift garment appeared in front of him.
Under Tang Sanzang's guidance, Sun Wukong awkwardly put on the tiger skin skirt. A tiger skin belt looped over one shoulder, and a crude tiger skin garment, marked with patchy stitches, adorned his body.
Tang Sanzang asked with concern, "Wukong, is it warm?"
Sun Wukong felt a warmth in his heart. Although the little monk could be stubborn at times, he cared deeply for old Sun Wukong, even handcrafting a tiger skin garment for him. With a chuckle, he said, "Warm, warm. But Little Monk, you should wear it instead! Old Sun doesn't mind the cold or heat."
"No need, no need. This garment was handcrafted by your master for you, representing my affection. Besides, I have my own humble piece of tiger skin clothing."
