As Bryson and the two others made their way to the library, Bryson couldn't help but feel tricked. He couldn't really stop Reynard from following him, besides he had a valid reason at least. Reynard needed to pick up some books for a class. While for Anna, honestly, it felt as though saying no to her was like abandoning a puppy.
"So why did you want to visit the library?" Reynard asked as they entered the library.
It was a large room with multiple stories containing a plethora of different books. Rows and rows of bookshelves littered everywhere, and even in the first week of school, the place had a healthy number of students inside. Though the most eye-catching thing in the room was a two-story-tall glowing blue orb brimming with magic at the center.
"I need to improve on a couple of spells." Bryson grunted in response as he began to scan the labels to find the right section.
"What spells?" Anna asked looking interested.
"Psionic types." Bryson said as he began to walk in one direction.
"Uh, I think the psionic section is on the second floor." Anna said as Bryson was walking in the wrong direction.
"I don't need to learn the spells. I already know them. I'm trying to improve the way I cast them." Bryson replied as he moved past a few aisles and found what he was looking for.
"Sleight of hand?" Reynard said seeing the title of the book Bryson took.
"Hand symbols are a key aspect of casting magic. Psionic spells specifically are a bit clunky for me to try and cast without needing them." Bryson said as he grabbed 'Slight Tricks 1' from the shelf.
"Psionic spells." Anna said out loud thinking thoughtfully.
"Huh?" Bryson said looking over to her.
"Oh, sorry. It's just that I've never tried psionic spells yet." Anna said as she looked back towards the second floor, "Maybe I should start."
"I don't think they actually focus on the psionic category until at least the second semester." Bryson said recalling his timetable, "Most of the complicated spells will take time to learn."
"Do you already know the complicated stuff? I heard that if you're not careful it could literally fry your brain." Reynard said.
"It can and I don't know any of those spells yet. I just know the basic ones."
"Basic as in?"
"Levitation, telekinesis." Bryson said shrugging.
"Isn't that really simple?" Anna asked, she was sure it wouldn't take long for her to memorize a levitation spell.
"Yes which is why I'm learning to be more creative and efficient with it." Bryson replied as he quickly read through the table of contents of the book.
A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.
Anna then thought back to when Bryson dealt with that noble boy that bullied her during the first day of school. When people cast telekinesis spells, especially one that launches someone, they usually have to visibly make an effort to do so. Yet Bryson simply did it with a single look.
Bryson was casting normal spells in a different way from the traditional teachings. Anna realizing the benefits of that looked at Bryson impressed. She had always relied on trying to mimic what she heard and read to cast and learn spells. But if she could figure out how to expand on it herself then who knows how much she could improve?
Bryson satisfied with his book was about to tell Reynard to grab what he wanted when he spotted something in the corner of his eye. Reynard noticing Bryson's eyes drift, looked over as well, only to see a small narrow corridor.
"Wait was that always there?" Reynard said noticing the corridor for the first time. They passed by it earlier, he was sure of it. So why didn't he remember seeing it?
"You don't see anything special?" Bryson asked and received a no, then asked Anna, "How about you?"
"Uh, I don't think so? I didn't even realize we passed that?" Anna said now unable to not notice the corridor, which stood out in the library.
Yep, faint illusion magic it is then. Bryson thought as he began to walk forward and into the corridor. The place was barely lit up and gave an eerie feeling, it was rather off-putting but only served to pique Bryson's interest.
"Should we be here?" Anna asked looking a bit nervous. It felt like she was entering some horror movie and she was not a fan of the horror genre.
"It's part of the library and there's no sign that says we can't." Reynard said just as curious as Bryson was.
As they reached the end of the corridor where there was a bookshelf in front of them filled with unlabeled books. Bryson noticed a large section behind the wall at the end of the corridor containing a very faint layer of mana. Approaching the bookshelf Bryson's back currently facing the others, activated his eyes and stared at what was in front of him.
With the added clarity he now noticed a link between a single book that connected to the wall. Interesting, looks like a secret door. Bryson said as he pulled at the book. With a click and the sound of gears whirling the bookshelf along with the wall opened up and revealed a new room.
"Huh." Bryson uttered out audibly as his eyes returned back to normal.
"Wow." Reynard said impressed.
"Uh… can we go in?" Anna said not sure if this made the vibe any less horrifying.
"I don't see why not." Bryson said as he looked around, there was nothing abnormal in this room.
"Of course there's no issue. Please, enter and make yourself at home." Orchid said from behind all of them.
"Ahhh!" Anna screamed and rushed behind Bryson as the other two whipped around out of fear.
"Please don't do that." Reynard said alarmed.
"Why are you here?" Bryson said getting annoyed at her constant appearances the last couple of days.
"Waiting to see who would find this place first. It's certainly been a couple years since someone last found the place." Orchid said as she sauntered past the students and looked around the dark room.
Quickly flicking a switch, the room was lit up and a large dusty room filled with tables, maps, unique books, and Communicators among other devices. On the walls were several portraits of people.
"What is this place?" Bryson said looking around the place.
"A secret little room meant for students with a keen eye." Orchid explained, "Various clubs have used the place over the past decades as their own personal club room. It's purposefully hidden as a challenge to be discovered."
"There's so much space and stuff." Anna said, "There are alchemy sets and blacksmithing tools."
"Yes, this place is sorted for any club to be able to use its amenities." Orchid said smiling, "Though you found it early in the year, clubs haven't been formed yet. Seeing that to be the case you three are free to use it as you please during your free time for now."
"Did you know that I would notice something?" Bryson asked looking at her suspiciously.
"I was betting if anyone were to find the place it would be you." Orchid said, "Considering your talents." She gave Bryson a reassuring pat on the shoulder as she left the room, "Something tells me that this place will be extremely useful for you three."
"Why say that?" Reynard asked.
"Call it a gut feeling." Orchid said as she left the three, "Make sure to return to class at the lunch bell."
