A Terrible Villain And Their Destiny

Chapter 162: Airship Exploration

The rest of the day was rather monotonous. Every few hours the airship would land to pick up more students and slowly fill up more and more until around nightfall. Bryson at this point had explored all he wanted of the airship and had returned back to his room.

"This place is boring, there's barely anything to do." Bryson complained as he readied himself for sleep.

"Because all you did was walk around the place and eat." Sable said as she came out of the bathroom dressed in her sleepwear.

"Did you do anything different?"

"I actually used the training areas and got to know some of our future classmates."

"Like I said, boring."

"You're going to be a complete loser when you get to school." Sable said as she laid down onto her bed.

"Shut up and turn off the light." Bryson grumbled as Sable acquiesced to his demand and turned the switch next to her off and the two slowly drifted off into unconsciousness.

A few hours later Bryson slowly opened his eyes, he was groggy and tried to go back to sleep but found that he couldn't. A strange shambling noise was loud enough and consistent enough to be too annoying for Bryson to ignore.

It's the middle of the night. Bryson said as he rolled in his bed, he became a bit more awake when he saw Sable now sitting upright.

"You hear it too?" Bryson asked quietly.

"Yeah, who's making all that noise?" Sable said as the shambling seemed to get louder, "That's it." She said annoyed as she got up from bed and creaked the door open to take a peek.

"What's going on out there?" Bryson asked slowly sitting up.

"I think there's a drunk guy?"

"A student is drunk?" Bryson said getting up and turning on the lights, "Even before their first class?"

"Urgh, you could have kept the lights off." Sable said squinting from the sudden increase in light.

"Not like you can see in the dark." Bryson said as he got up and squeezed past Sable to look down the hallway, "Huh." Bryson said as he got a good look at the cause of the noise.

"What does 'huh' mean?" Sable asked as she tried to get a better look at the man making the commotion.

"That's a lot of magic." Bryson said.

"What?" Sable said with concern.

"Not powerful magic per se, but magic that isn't his is brimming inside him." Bryson muttered.

"What does that mean?"

"Uh, not sure." Byson said as the student had now stopped moving and now stood still.

The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.

"Now what?" Sable asked. Before Bryson could reply the student let out a banshee-like wail.

"That woke everyone up." Bryson muttered as he covered his ears.

"What in the hells?" Sable said through gritted teeth as her ears rang. Followed quickly after the scream was the sounds of yelling and commotion through doors as everyone in the hall was awakened by the horrible noise.

As other people began to open their doors to look for the source the student tilted his head straight towards the ceiling. Then a smoke invisible to the naked eyes, but one filled with magic flew out of the student's gaping mouth and flew directly through an air vent.

As everyone who was now looking watched the student then fell backwards unconscious, Bryson's eyes followed the smoke that disappeared into the vent. A couple of the other students cautiously made their way over to the student now prone as the lights turned on. Checking on him, one of them reported that he was unconscious.

"Did you see that?" Bryson asked Sable.

"Him falling over? Yeah."

"No, the smoke."

"There was smoke?" Sable asked looking confused.

"Right, so that thing was invisible then. Good to confirm." Bryson said still staring at the air vent.

"Wait there's something invisible?" Sable said.

"Yeah, and I would like to find out." Bryson said as he tore his eyes away from the vent and walked over to the people treating the unconscious student, "How is he?"

"He's alright, breathing normally, just unconscious. Why did he scream like that? And how?" One of the students directly checking on him answered.

"He's not hurt then?"

"Don't think so."

"Good." Bryson said kicking the unconscious person's foot, "Wake up."

"Hey! He needs rest." The other student complained.

"Shut up." Bryson said as he prodded him with his foot again. "Up." When he only received a half-dazed groan he turned to the student who was trying to check on the prone boy, "Get him up and bring him to his room."

"What? Who do you think you are ordering me around?"

"I am Lord Bryson Coldwater." Bryson growled.

"C-Coldwater?" The boy stammered out turning pale, "Y-you're lying."

"Would anyone be truly dumb enough to impersonate me?" Bryson said as he subtly made it seem like the ground around him was shaking slightly.

"No! Right away!" The boy shouted quickly and picked up the unconscious student.

"Where's his roommate and lead me to his room!" Bryson ordered. As the people around him acquiesced to his demands Sable watching on the sidelines rolled her eyes and wished she could go back to bed.

It wasn't long before they found the unconscious boy's roommate and plopped him back into his room. By then the student began to come to.

"Huh? What happened?" The student said rubbing his eyes before coughing, "Aw, what's wrong with my throat?"

"What happened? Why did you leave your room outdoors?" Bryson demanded.

"Huh? I did that? I, uh, don't know." The student replied trying to clear his throat.

Great he doesn't know. Bryson thought as he picked up something in the corner of his eye. Walking over to the nightstand he moved a drinking mug out of the way and a couple of napkins to reveal a necklace with a ruby gemstone.

Picking it up he studied it, it was magic, but more than that he recognized the enchantment. It was a storage device of some sort, not dissimilar to the enchantment he had put on Lila's bracelet. But it was definitely more complicated, it seemed that it would take in 'living' magic.

Bryson thought what that could mean for a moment. Certain complicated healing spells could be contained here, but actually now that he thought about it the engravings would allow something like a familiar, or something adjacent, to be housed inside.

"You." Bryson said as he showed them the necklace, "This yours?"

"Uh yeah, found it on the floor here." The student said looking at the necklace.

"Here? In your room?"

"Well, no, in a random hallway."

"You found a valuable necklace in a random hallway?"

"Yeah, weird but no one was looking for it so why not?" The student said with a shrug.

Bryson stared at the chain a bit more before realizing there was an engraving of a name, M. Cuirassier, "Hmm." Bryson hummed as he felt a small ripple of magic and looked around, "Hmm." He grunted again frowning.

"Hey can I get some water?" The student asked still messaging his throat.

"I'm taking this." Bryson said as he kept the necklace in his hand and walked out of the student's room. He needed to find someone who could quickly give him some answers.
