Star Hawk Rises

102: CHAPTER 21: Gift Giving!

I shook my head, I knew questioning further would just be rude, so I opened the door letting him in as I respectfully bowed. And gently spoke as he crossed the threshold, entering the room.

"No, I have no more questions, Master."

"It is a pleasure to meet my brother's descendant. By the way, don't get me wrong, I would love to catch up and hear about how things are going with yourself and the family, but we should get the disciple master ceremony complete so that people can stop plotting against you, considering how many people took an interest that design you submitted I think the ceremony should take priority so that I can lock the design down under a core elder authority as I glare at anyone that wants to look at my personal disciples work… don't you?" He said as he smiled at me.

I let out a groan as I waved my hand towards the table and nodded my head. I was already cursing myself in my head for putting my all into designing that infernal troublemaker of a blueprint.

"Yes, of course." I replied as I let go of the door, I did catch Itshu Biyu slipping into the room and fading into a corner so she could observe.

As I approached the table, a tea pot and some cups appeared on the table, with a bag of tea leaves and a pitcher of water. Michael withdrew his hand and turned to look at me before indicating for me to sit in the far chair. His eyes glanced at Biyu hiding in the corner before he turned back to me and filled the tea pot with the water and tea leaves before tapping something on the side of the tea pot. He then sat down and smiled at me.

"After today, you will be my personal disciple and a core disciple of the void walking sect. I will give you the gift of your own core sect ship. It's not as big as an outer sect ship because far fewer disciples make it to the core courtyard." He paused as we both glanced at the corner where Biyu had taken a gasp of surprise before we turned to look back at each other.

"That certainly sounds like an extravagant gift, but it also sounds troubling. Would I be required to become a deacon or something to command it?" I asked as I tilted my head.

"you would not be in command of it." He started as he poured tea out into each cup, turned them, and then slid one across to me. "You would simply be the owner, a new core deacon that is not currently aware that they are about to be a deacon will take command of the ship and new core disciples will move to live and train on that ship. You will be paid for its use by the deacon. Like a rental, if you will." He then slid the tea pot across to me and motioned for me to drink the tea from my small cup.

I took the cup and found only half a mouthful in the cup and drank it slowly as I glanced at the teapot, wondering what I was supposed to do with it now. I glanced up at him, seeing he was watching me over the rim of his cup. We both slowly put the cups down, and then he motioned for me to pour the tea into the cups myself.

"Would I have any authority on this ship of mine?" I asked as I reached for the teapot only to be stopped by him suddenly.

"You offer a gift while you pour, not ask a question about your own, and the answer is perhaps it depends on a few things, such as if the deacon is in your political party or someone else's." he then indicated for me to pour the tea again.

I froze as I glanced between the teapot and him, quickly running ideas through my head as I tried to think of anything that could be of value to the man that had literally just gifted me an entire ship. I slowly frowned as I was coming to the realisation I had nothing, I could offer planets or even space stations, but people lived on those and used them. They were not an opportunity for people to gain from. After a few more moments, I slowly came to a decision and reached for the teapot again as I said.

"I can offer you a few uses of my dry dock, it can build anything from a race ship to a dreadnought."

He nodded his head slightly, and I picked up the teapot, pouring a bit of the tea into each cup before placing the teapot back down and copying his movements to turn each cup before sliding it across to him. We silently drank the tea together and when we placed the tea cups down again he smiled.

If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

"That is a generous offer, I will of course request certain ships to be built that will further my goals in the sect, but first I suspect we will need to claim the star system that your dry dock is in from the galactic federation, the problem with that is they may decide to fight us for it." He shrugged slightly as he waved his hand returning the tea set back to his spatial ring and then turned to look at me curiously.

"We can look into reclaiming your star system from the galactic federation in due time. However, you are now officially my direct disciple, witnessed by the head of the disciplinary department on this ship." He paused as he glanced back at her for a moment before looking at me. "Do you trust her?"

I glanced at her, I had a bit of trouble picking her out of the darkness that she had surrounded herself in. I hesitantly shrugged, not really sure how to answer such a loaded question.

"I met her like half an hour ago, she was respectful and polite, then she cut a guy's head off…" I trailed off before shrugging again.

He chuckled as he glanced back at her and tilted his head. He slowly raised his hand and waved her to come over to us as he watched her glint in his eyes as he smiled amusedly at her as she walked over to stand next to him.

"Tell me Itshu Biyu, cousin of deacon Itshu Miskyu, what do you think of this young disciple in front of us?" He asked with a slight smile on his face. I felt like he was playing out some sort of game and the ending had already been decided.

"She is your disciple now, I witnessed it myself. I would never dream of having an opinion on a core disciple of our great sect, I am but a lowly inner sect outer courtyard disciple." She bowed Deep after she spoke and moved to retreat, only for Michael to roll his eyes and waved her back towards him.

"Come now, none of that shit, speak freely, tell me what you think of this person in front of me, pretend she isn't my disciple and go." He continued to smile as he watched both of us.

"uh, well. She seemed skittish and afraid when I met her. However, she was being verbally attacked by a man at the time, so I don't think I should keep that first impression of her as a valid defining characteristic." She started slowly as she glanced at Michael.

"No, I wouldn't, from what I have heard about the man. To be honest, I wanted to cut his head off myself, and present it as a gift to the engineering department." Michael said as he frowned and glanced at the door. Before turning back and waving his hand for her to continue.

"uh, right. Well, my cousin has never been known for lying, and she claims this girl has a talent for designing. After seeing the design in action myself, I would have to agree, a genius mind would be required to design something so formidable."

"Indeed, I have actually seen the design's blueprints myself and can vouch that it is a thing of beauty, I rather liked the nefarious little bug left for anyone too persistent on viewing the coding. It attaches itself to the account of whoever opens it, and then shuts the computer down for an hour, so they can't use a computer, no matter which computer they use to log in." He let out a soft chuckle after he finished talking, and after a moment waved for her to continue.

"I was impressed that she managed to reach the foundation Establishment realm so quickly. It indicates she has a great aptitude for cultivation. Unfortunately, she has been trapped for the last few weeks, causing her cultivation to stagnate. I do hope she can get to the golden core realm quickly so she can move off that technique and onto a better one. That should give her some defence if someone like butt-face out there decides to attack her again." She paused as she considered that for a few moments before continuing. "Uh, well actually that wouldn't work butt-face out there was nearing immortality realm and was starting to make moves towards the inner court. But the golden core realm will help her skin look more jade like and increase her beauty, so it is worth reaching quickly in a humble girl's opinion." She smiled politely before moving a few steps back to indicate she was done.

Michael started to chuckle as he looked between us and after a few moments he waved his hand at her as he said. "Enough of the flattery, get to the meat."

I saw her blush slightly as she bowed her head, and then she let out a soft sigh. I noticed just before she sighed that she had firmed her resolve and prepared herself for the consequences of what she was about to say.

"she is also the biggest idiot I have ever met, she prances around like nothing can touch her moving from one thing to the next, almost like she expects it all to work out for her. Then prances off again to create the next chaotic field that others like myself have to come and clean up, just to make sure it doesn't spiral out of control." She spat out as quickly as she could, I could tell she meant it but was reluctant to say it in front of the elder.

"Yes, I have noticed that as well, do you think you can fix it or at least curb it to be beneficial for us, perhaps dull it to less chaos and more controlled mess?" He asked as he glanced at her.

"I could try, if that is what you wish, Elder." she said as she rolled her shoulders dismissively. "The problem is I am head of a disciplinary department on a ship that she is about to leave, and I am her junior."

"Yes, that is a problem, but one I can easily fix. As of this moment, you are upgraded to a deacon of the Void Walking sect. You will take command of young Kenna Mackenzie's core sect ship and I will assign outer sect disciples to it, spin it as some sort of test group with the goal being less disciples, more work, or something. I will figure that out later. Do you agree, young Biyu?" He said as he stood and turned to face her.

I saw the shock on her face as her mouth fell open, and I couldn't blame her. I was feeling shocked myself, and like I had just been ignored, pushed to the background, so he could coerce her into accepting a position of deacon. I turned my head, narrowing my eyes as I began to assess this woman myself. If she was going to be in charge of guiding me under the direction of my new cultivation master, then I had better have an opinion on her. The problem was I didn't know a thing about her.
