"What do you mean by this? Is this a threat?" That was all that the leader of the soldiers could ask, but I just ignored him as I started walking forward.
He was about to reach for his weapon until he saw that Amy came forward with another group.
Once he saw this, the leader of the soldiers had no choice but to back down.
After all, this was a group of soldiers that had been gathered.
These were soldiers that I had Amy and the rest of our party contact in secret, they had been prepared to follow us when we needed them.
Most of this group was made of the Deter Kingdom volunteers that had joined the army afterwards.
"You…are you trying to start a mutiny?" The leader of the soldiers couldn't help asking in a dark voice.
I just looked at him and said, "The only thing that I'm trying to do is save our people from the demons. You're free to follow me and help, but if you aren't planning to help, then all I can ask is that you don't get in our way."
It wasn't just their leader, all of the soldiers had strange looks on their faces when they heard this.
When they heard the sincerity that was in my voice, they couldn't help being moved by it.
In the end…
"We're coming with you."
I gave a simple nod without saying anything since this was a welcome outcome.
It wasn't as if these soldiers were weak, so they would be helpful if they came. And there was no doubt that they would fight if we encountered the demons since the ones that we were saving were their superiors.
"Then hurry up, we're leaving now or else we'll be too late."
…
"Can you believe that these humans are this easy to trick? We just had to pretend that we're not around and they came thudding in. They didn't even bother scouting out the area before claiming this place for their own."
"Right? They don't even know that they're about to fall into a trap."
"What idiots. Who said that humans were smart?"
These demons were laughing at the humans that were clearing out the village under them.
They had long seen the humans and had been waiting for them to gather in the village where the trap had been set. They wanted to catch as many of the humans as possible in the trap since that would mean more merit and rewards for them.
But it was clear that these demons were losing patience.
There were a few of them that were even licking their lips, but it wasn't just because these humans would be turned into merit for them.
There were some demons that actually had an acquired taste for human flesh after all.
"Is it still not time yet?"
"Who cares, let's just spring the trap. We've already gotten most of the humans in here, we can just hunt down the rest."
"Alright, let me spring it."
"Snap!"
With the sound of a rope snapping, the traps that the demons had laid had been set into action. However, there wasn't anything that actually happened even though the demons had sprung the trap.
Right after the trap was sprung, it didn't seem like anything was going to happen.
"What's going on? What are you doing?"
"I don't know. I pulled it like I was instructed to."
"Fix it right away!"
The demons were naturally unhappy to see that the trap that they had set didn't work, so they started to run around trying to fix it.
This was the gap that was exploited.
"Ah!"
With this cry of pain that rang out, the first demon was cut down.
"What is going on?"
"Where did all of these humans come from?"
"Why is this one so strong?"
The demons fell into even more of a panic when they saw that they were being attacked by humans. Especially when they saw the one terrifying human that led the charge, this one human was just like an unstoppable train that cut right through them.
"It's the hero!" One of the demons actually recognized this human in the end.
Yes, it was the hero leading his forces to attack the demons.
…
"Take the ones on the left, don't let them escape!" I said to three of the knights that followed me.
As soon as they received this order, they didn't hesitate to charge at the demons that I pointed out for them.
Even though they had been here on the cover of protecting the princess, the real order that they received was to follow all of my orders. As such, I didn't have any problems commanding these knights.
As they charged at the demons, I had to admit that they really were the elites of the Abel Kingdom.
It was as if they were lawn mowers that were cutting down the waves of demons.
They really didn't struggle at all against these demons, but then again, it wasn't as if these demons were that strong. These demons were nothing more than low grade demons from the demon race, ones that were just used as pawns.
That was why they had been sent here for the ambush.
With these knights clearing out the demons, I was able to lead the others in fighting against them to lower our casualties.
First was the morale that I provided them which made them fight even more intensely.
Second was the support that I gave them.
After all, it was easy for me to save these soldiers when they were in trouble against the demons while leading them.
With all of us working together, the demons weren't able to do anything against us.
They had been the ones that had expected to catch humans off guard, but they were the ones that had been caught off guard by us in the end.
With them caught off guard like this, it really was a one sided slaughter.
