Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 531: A Different Jack (2)

The chubby kid showed an expression of curiosity, "Can I have a taste?"

"No, this wine isn't suitable for you yet," Luke shook his finger, "but you can have a bit of beer."

"Really?" The chubby kid was just testing the waters, not expecting Luke to agree.

Over the past year, the chubby kid grew rapidly; although not yet an adult, he's almost the same height as Luke, and even weighs more than him. With his physique, Luke doesn't think there's any problem with him drinking beer.

As for the U.S. regulation prohibiting alcohol consumption under 21, Luke thought it was nonsense, considering how prevalent drug use and wild personal behavior are at this age. Having a beer is nothing, especially at home.

The chubby kid opened a beer and, with excitement, clinked glasses with his mom and brother. This excitement wasn't just because of the alcohol, but more because of the sense of participation.

Linda looked at her two sons, a smile on her face, and pointed at Luke's lips, "Why are your lips injured?"

Luke touched them, "Maybe it's from getting heated. My lips are a bit dry; drinking more water should fix it."

The chubby kid pouted, "Brother, are you sure it's from getting heated?"

"Is there a problem?"

"I've never been to the U.S. Virgin Islands, but I know it's a tropical rainforest climate, very humid air, difficult to make a fire, let alone get heated," the chubby kid laughed, "You might as well say you were bitten by a piranha; that's more believable."

Linda raised her glass, took a sip, and nodded, "It might have been a mermaid bite."

The chubby kid said, "Could the legend be true? There really are mermaids guarding the treasure? Wow, I'm so curious! Are mermaids pretty?"

"You can see for yourself." Luke took out his phone and flipped through some photos.

"There really are mermaids?" The chubby kid, half suspicious, took the phone, "Oh my god, that's a huge crocodile! Did you kill it?"

"Yes, the treasure was in a cave with two paths. One had crocodiles, and the other had piranhas.

After killing the crocodile, I found the treasure in the cave."

The chubby kid became interested, "There's really a treasure? What's there?"

Luke said, "There's pottery, silver bricks, gold bricks. This time, the haul was pretty good."

The chubby kid looked envious, "Oh my god, brother, your life is so exciting. Can you take me treasure hunting next time?"

Luke didn't answer, instead got up and said, "I brought you some gifts."

While Luke got up to get the gifts, Linda asked, "Is he changing the subject?"

The chubby kid, quietly replied, "So, there really are mermaids?"

Linda rolled her eyes, "Forget about the damn mermaids. I'm talking about a woman."

"You're saying, brother's got a new woman?"

Linda nodded, "Luke looks like me, very handsome, tall, and successful. It's normal for women to like him."

The chubby kid "..."

He felt there's something wrong with this statement.

There's only three of them here, brother handsome, looks like mom.

What about me?

Linda ignored her younger son, continued speaking to herself, "Why would there be a bite? Was the mermaid claiming territory?"

Luke returned to the table with two boxes, not noticing their thoughts, handed one to Linda and the other to the chubby kid, "See if you like them."

Linda opened hers, surprised, "What a big silver brick, I've never seen such a big piece of silver before."

"This silver brick is five hundred years old, has some collectible value. Of course, you could melt it down to make some jewelry you like."

The chubby kid rubbed his hands, full of anticipation, opened his box, "Is this a horn? And it's got metal inlays on it."

"That's correct, it's a ceremonial horn from five hundred years ago of the Native American tribes, used only on certain important formal occasions. Its collectible value is higher than the silver brick."

The chubby kid, beaming with joy, played with the horn carefully, "Can I post it on Facebook?"

"Of course, it's yours now." Luke said to Linda, "I also brought back several boxes of local rum, one for dad, grandpa, and uncle each."

The chubby kid asked, "You brought back so many things, wasn't the shipping fee expensive?"

"I was on a private plane."

"Wow..."

The chubby kid became more envious.

...

The following noon.

Dong Lai Shun.

After eating seafood for several days, Luke now wanted something hearty and appetizing, so he invited the Zhang brothers for hot pot with lamb.

Everyone had a small copper pot in front of them, and the dishes were plentiful.

Hand-cut fresh mutton, fatty beef, frozen tofu, vegetable plate, mushroom plate, boiled tripe, donkey rolling, grilled lamb skewers, sesame seed cake.

After ordering, Luke smiled and said to the Zhang brothers, "Take a look at the menu, add anything else, my treat today, don't be shy."

Zhang Jianguo said, "Enough, enough, if we order more, we can't finish."

"Mr. Li, sorry for the expense." Zhang Jianmin brought a box of Wuliangye, opened it, poured three glasses of wine, "With such good dishes, we need wine; let's have a good drink today."

Luke invited the brothers to eat.

The prices at Dong Lai Shun aren't cheap, if Luke hadn't earned some money, he wouldn't have been willing to eat there.

However, the lamb is indeed delicious, especially the hand-cut fresh mutton, lean and fat balanced, tender and not tough, excellent taste.
