Idle as idle gets, Jimmy isn't the silent type, and in a bar setting like this, whether or not he knows the people around him, he just has a drink and chats casually, and the time slips by.
Before long, Kevin arrived, but Dave hadn't yet, so he also settled at the bar. However, because he had something to do later, he didn't drink but took a glass of soda to pass the time.
The man next to Jimmy, who called himself Todd, didn't leave either. He was about the same age as Kevin, and after chatting for a while, they found out they both had only daughters, which became a common topic.
After finding a common topic, Kevin switched his drink, though it was just a low-alcohol beverage mixed by Woody.
Compared to Nia, Todd's daughter was not as easy to manage. When Todd mentioned this topic, he couldn't help but sigh. As an educator, his daughter began her rebellious phase when she started university, and now she's completely off track. Originally, he had arranged for her to stay at her university, but unfortunately, it was all for naught.
This kind of topic easily resonates with middle-aged men; the more they talked, the more they hit it off. Jimmy ended up being a bystander, which allowed him to keep an eye on the door for when Dave would arrive.
Soon, Dave arrived, followed by a young man. However, when he came up to Kevin, he didn't introduce him, and after they went into a small room, the young man turned and left the bar.
Jimmy just said a couple of words to them in the small room before being kicked out, as the content of their conversation wasn't suitable for Jimmy's presence.
Fortunately, Jimmy had already informed Kevin about the two bottles of liquor inside, and now it was up to their own discretion.
Back at the bar, the middle-aged man Todd had just finished his drink and was pulling out his wallet to pay. Jimmy walked over and sat next to him, "Hey, Todd, today's drinks are on me."
Todd seemed to have drunk quite a bit, his gaze somewhat hazy. He looked at Jimmy and smiled, "Thanks, but no need. Just having a good conversation today makes me happy. Woody, your tip."
He slapped a fifty-dollar bill on the bar, put away his wallet, stood up, and reached out to hug Jimmy, "Interesting guy, till next time."
Jimmy patted his back, "Take care, goodbye."
Watching Todd sway slightly as he walked out, Jimmy shook his head and smiled. It was clear from the way Kevin and Todd were drinking and chatting earlier that they were having a good time. It's rare for people of similar age, especially strangers, to hit it off so well. Kevin, at his level, presumably doesn't often have people to chat with freely, which is a rare opportunity.
Jimmy: "Woody, can I get some pistachios?"
Woody didn't move, but another bartending assistant next to him reached into the bar, grabbed a bag, poured it into a small plate, and handed it to Jimmy.
Honestly speaking, Jimmy is quite the handsome Chinese guy, and in a city like New York, he still attracts a lot of interest. While waiting for Kevin and Dave to finish chatting, there have been two groups of girls who came over to flirt, but Jimmy wasn't interested. He hadn't been hitting on girls at bars for a long time.
But his rejection didn't leave him in peace, instead it attracted a man who didn't seem very interesting to come over and start chatting. That was somewhat insulting, and if he weren't a customer, Jimmy would have splashed his drink in his face.
Luckily, Kevin and Dave didn't chat long. In less than half an hour, they came out. Dave greeted Jimmy and walked straight out of the bar, and after escorting him out, Jimmy returned to the bar where Kevin was drinking.
Kevin: "Jimmy, take the liquor inside to Dave's office later, but don't make a big deal of it."
Jimmy: "Got it. How did the talk go?"
Kevin: "Not bad. First time talking, not much to say, but it's a start. We'll see later."
Jimmy nodded: "Okay, thanks, Kevin."
Kevin: "As I said before, don't get involved in other matters. Just stay low for a while. Anyway, I'm heading back now."
Jimmy: "Let me arrange a ride for you; you've had a drink. Woody, get someone to drive Kevin home, I've also had quite a few."
Kevin nodded, and Woody turned away from the bar. After a while, a security guard came over, Kevin handed him the keys, and they left the bar together.
Today's matters were done, and Jimmy finally felt relieved.
Woody brought Jimmy's glass back, added ice and whiskey, and placed it in front of him again, "Everything okay?"
Jimmy smiled and nodded: "It's fine now. By the way, I forgot to ask, you mentioned going to that old jazz club before, how was it?"
Woody: "It was great, I went on the first day they officially opened; the singers were fantastic, and the atmosphere was good."
Jimmy: "Did you enjoy it?"
Woody: "Absolutely, smoking a cigar, listening to jazz, a bourbon in front of me, I could sit there all night."
Jimmy: "Alright, if I have time, I'll check it out."
Jimmy took a sip of his drink and suddenly looked at the ceiling. The bar's music was like light music, not affecting people's drinking and chatting, and the rhythm wasn't fast. "By the way, if you really like jazz, maybe consider changing the background music here. I'm not picky; you and Isaac can decide together."
Woody shrugged: "The styles are different, let's leave it. They're already used to this environment."
