North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 565: Communication

Jimmy hadn't finished reading when his phone vibrated. He took it out, glanced at it, and walked towards the activity area. Kevin was holding a glass of champagne, chatting with a very thin, white-haired old man. Jimmy walked over, "Kevin."

Kevin turned his head to look at Jimmy, then smiled and said to the person opposite him, "Ryan, this is my daughter's fiancé, Jimmy Yang, a Federation employee. Jimmy, this is Ryan Tumber, a director at the New York University Alliance."

Jimmy reached out to shake hands with Ryan, "Nice to meet you, Mr. Tumber."

Ryan: "Likewise, Mr. Yang."

Jimmy: "Just call me Jimmy."

Ryan: "Oh, okay. Jimmy, which industry are you in?"

Jimmy smiled and said, "I work at a federal agency, a Senior FBI Agent at the Manhattan office."

Ryan: "Wow, you're already a Senior Agent? Very promising, young man."

Jimmy: "Thank you."

Kevin interjected in time, "Hahaha, of course, he's a good young man. Do you doubt my judgment, Ryan? By the way, does your alliance have any events recently?"

Ryan: "Oh? Are you interested? In which aspect?"

Kevin: "Of course, but not today, let's chat at the club some other time?"

Ryan: "OK, I'll confirm the time and get back to you. Sorry, I just saw an acquaintance."

Kevin: "Please, go ahead."

Ryan: "Goodbye, Jimmy."

Jimmy: "Goodbye, Mr. Tumber."

Ryan turned and walked towards another old man nearby; the two exchanged smiles and greetings. Kevin also nodded and led Jimmy out of the activity area, "Going to university shouldn't be too difficult. I already asked around, and I'll talk to Ryan later to see which school is more convenient."

Jimmy: "Seems smooth. Do you need me to do anything?"

Kevin: "Not for now, let's see later. We might need to donate some money, maybe for a scholarship or library, something with a name."

Jimmy nodded, "If it can be solved with money, then it's simple. I'm just worried about needing to deal with favors and all, it's too troublesome."

Kevin: "Don't worry too much, it's common in these situations; I just haven't handled it before. You know, Nia going to school gave us much peace of mind, except for her choice to join the NYPD, sigh."

Jimmy chuckled without responding. He had talked about this with Kevin before; Nia was a bit of a father-worshipper, and after graduating, she chose not to go into business but to join the NYPD as a cop—completely her own choice.

Kevin: "Alright, we've accomplished tonight's main goals, just relax and hang out. You don't need to meet anyone else for now. Want anything?"

Jimmy: "No, aren't we not participating in the auction?"

Kevin: "If there's something you really want, go ahead and participate, but don't overdo it. These people care about face."

Jimmy: "No need, the things here are pretty average. If there's something I need, it's better to go buy it specifically."

Kevin nodded: "Alright, just enjoy yourself. We'll leave after the auction. Don't drink too much."

Jimmy: "Don't worry, I just had a small sip of champagne today, nothing will happen."

-----------------

Jimmy rarely attends such auctions. Watching these so-called big shots start bidding at hundreds or thousands of dollars, most were decided after a few bids, far from the intense atmosphere he had imagined. The whole auction process was harmonious.

After the auction ended, the total fundraising amount was only about a million dollars, clearly showing that this auction was purely for gathering purposes and didn't have any high-value goods. For them, the cocktail party attached to the auction was their real aim.

The hunting knife Jimmy had previously looked at was also bought by someone. The buyer had a great physique; the muscles under his suit were bulging, indicating either a fitness enthusiast or someone in a special profession.

For this kind of person to buy a knife, whether for collection or use, implies the knife must be pretty good, making Jimmy increasingly feel the need to get one. But he usually doesn't use daggers or short swords, so which would suit him best?

The highest-grade ABS MS bladesmiths are few, but they don't have a small output. So, if you're willing to spend the money, it's still easy to buy a custom one. The most important is to confirm the knife type, and when there's time, visit the SWAT training, they have combat training and various combat knives.

Jimmy drove Kevin home, and on the way, Kevin asked about Hughes' retirement reasons, having heard some incomplete information from others.

Jimmy didn't hide any longer and explained what he knew. After learning that it was current Senator's criminal past from a decade ago and blackmail evidence regarding corrupt cops being investigated, which led the Senator to leverage his connections to remove Hughes, Kevin was stunned.

A Senator, and a current one at that—a big shot Kevin can't even approach. Now the FBI is investigating such a person's crimes in secret; it's extremely dangerous. If exposed, it would cause an earth-shattering scandal.

Kevin: "You didn't get involved, did you?"

Jimmy: "No, Hughes and Dave, our office's deputy director, pulled me out of it and enforced a rule that I can't participate in any case investigations. Now at work, I'm just stuck in the office. The last time I went to the field was because Peter and his wife were kidnapped. I found some people to help locate their clues, successfully rescuing them in under 12 hours from disappearance to rescue."
