North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 537: Resolution 2

Jimmy picked up the shell casings from the ground, looked at the small patch of the steel plate in the middle, returned to the villa, found a bag and a shovel, came back and scooped the dirt directly into the bag, carrying the bag and shovel, along with a few steel plates, back to the villa.

Harlington watched Jimmy pacing back and forth, grabbing tools, having just heard a few gunshots, feeling a bit puzzled, but didn't interrupt Jimmy's task, noticing Jimmy put the bag in the trunk of his car, returned the tools to the tool room, and then asked, "Jimmy, how's it going?"

Jimmy: "Oh, it's nothing, just running a test, let's see what happens tonight."

Harlington: "I don't understand, were you dealing with something just now?"

Jimmy: "Uncle Harlington, it's not the right time yet, let's see tonight, if nothing unexpected happens, I can tell you tomorrow."

Harlington nodded, "Alright."

During the day, Harlington took a nap, planning not to sleep at night, just waiting to see the results of Jimmy's handling. Jimmy didn't wait here but instead drove away from the villa, heading straight to the edge of Lake Erie.

He found an empty spot with no one around, took out the bag, and dumped all the bone fragments and dirt into the lake. Jimmy knew there was definitely something wrong with these bone fragments, but he had no way to deal with them here. If he were in New York, he could open his safe and take out the Holy Water to try to destroy it or use fire, but the conditions were inadequate now.

Lake Erie is vast, and since it's the US-Canada border, dumping it here, even if something happens, it wouldn't be a big problem. Besides, a complete bone joint only made a little sound, now broken into this wretched state, even if there're still some issues, it probably wouldn't be much.

Jimmy returned to the villa, took the ladder up the wall to find that hole, and inserted a stick into it. The angle of this hole is upwards, pointing northeast, because it could embed into the wall, its kinetic energy should be strong. Although the direction was determined, there's no way to find where exactly it came from.

For now, that's it. Jimmy got down from the ladder, went back inside, washed his hands, and took out his mobile to call Chuck, "Chuck, has the person who surrendered arrived?"

Chuck: "Yes, the guys from the Poison Snake Gang were quite honest, they admitted it."

Jimmy: "What about the murder case?"

Chuck: "Did you find any clues on that case?"

Jimmy was speechless, apparently, that Perkins didn't arrange for someone to surrender, but since only a day has passed, he decided to wait a bit longer.

Jimmy: "It's okay, I'll keep looking. Just like that for now."

Hanging up the call, Jimmy turned on the TV in the living room to pass the time, he had enough energy, and not sleeping in the day wasn't a problem.

That night, before midnight, everyone remained awake, a group of them stayed in the living room, waiting for the noise to appear again. Knowing that Jimmy came to handle this matter, and given his unusual actions during the day, he must have gained something.

They waited until 4 a.m., past the time when the noise usually disappeared, and it still hadn't appeared, the group finally sighed with relief.

Harlington: "Jimmy, you did it."

Jimmy smiled, "Okay, you all can sleep well now."

Harlington laughed heartily, "Yeah, finally, I can get a good sleep. This period's been really tough. Alright, sleep time, don't wake me up in the morning."

Harlington stood up, Selena helped him upstairs to his bedroom, and Jimmy also went up to rest.

By noon, Harlington woke up. Jimmy had woken up earlier and packed his things; when having lunch, Jimmy bid farewell to Harlington, planning to return to New York in the afternoon.

Harlington: "Hold on, you haven't told me what's been affecting us."

Jimmy: "Some things you're better off not knowing. Don't worry, the issue's resolved. Oh, yeah, you should fix a hole outside the villa wall, that's not my job."

Harlington: "What things shouldn't I know?"

Jimmy: "Knowing too much can affect your mood, better not to know. I can assure you it's over now, trust me."

Harlington sighed and shook his head, "Alright, as long as it's settled."

In the afternoon, Jimmy drove away from the villa and headed back to New York. While driving on the road, Jimmy was still pondering about that bone joint, deciding that when he returns, he must thoroughly check the records. Dangerous stuff like this, he need not necessarily handle himself, but he must know what it is to prevent any future mishaps.

By the time he got back to New York, it was already evening, and Jimmy drove straight to Nia's house, having settled the matters arranged by her father-in-law, obviously to report and claim the credit.

Kevin was watching the news channel in the living room, saw Jimmy arrive and waved him to the study.

Kevin: "Jimmy, Alexander's already called me, nice job."

Jimmy smiled, "Yeah, I've settled it, they shouldn't hear that noise again."

Kevin: "So, how did it go, what's exactly the issue?"

Jimmy: "Let me ask first, you know about some supernatural events, right?"

Kevin nodded, "Similar to what I thought, it indeed was a supernatural event. How did you handle it?"

Jimmy: "Found the object causing the supernatural event, then destroyed it. It was a bone embedded in the villa's outer wall, after I dug it out and destroyed it, the sound stopped."

Kevin: "Well done, indeed you're the best for handling this. Alright, let's head out."

Kevin returned to the living room, while Jimmy went to Nia's bedroom. Nia was sitting in her wheelchair, surfing online on her computer. Jimmy walked over, bent down, and kissed her hair, "What are you looking at?"

Nia: "Nothing much, just browsing the news. Have you finished your task?"

Jimmy: "Yeah, Kevin's assignment, had to deal with it quickly."

Nia: "What was it about? You didn't explain clearly on the phone before."

Jimmy: "Do you remember Alexander Harlington?"

Nia: "Of course, we used to see him often. What happened to him?"

Jimmy: "Helped him with a little issue, it's settled now."

Nia saw that Jimmy didn't elaborate, so she didn't ask further, "When my leg heals, let's go out and have some fun, shall we?"

Jimmy: "Sure, wherever you want to go."

Finally having resolved everything, Jimmy could fully relax. When returning to work again, he checked if there was anything needing attention in his office, then headed to the Homicide Team.

Jimmy's account access had been revoked, he couldn't even connect to the case database. He needed to borrow Mahong's account to check it out.

Mahong's matters had concluded earlier, eight escapees, four died in pursuit — a crime boss, a thief, a lunatic, and T-bag. Of course, they were all killed by Mahong; his reinstatement meant the report was solid, no one was causing trouble.

Four individuals were captured — Michael, Lincoln, Sucre, and Franklin, but later, Michael and Lincoln received pardons for reasons unknown to Jimmy, irrelevant to him anyway.

After Mahong returned, he invited Jimmy for drinks, in their chat, it was roughly confirmed that those threatening Mahong would not appear again, danger was averted; hence, his ex-wife and child could return home.

When Mahong saw Jimmy visiting the Homicide Team office, he greeted him, knowing Jimmy wanted to check records, he immediately opened his computer for him without asking why.

Because the bone joint made noticeable noise two weeks ago, it was simple — directly investigate two weeks ago's related homicides in New York State. Yet, Jimmy oversimplified it; cases that could enter the database were typical cases, supernatural-related cases were independently handled, thus, wouldn't appear on the case list.

Jimmy smiled self-mockingly, greeted Mahong, then returned to his office to work honestly.
