Peter flipped through the photographs one by one, then picked up the photo of the wooden box and the grass doll to take a closer look before shaking his head. "I can't make out the style, and I even suspect it's just something made by an ordinary person, it looks very crude."
Jimmy, "Oh, I can be certain this isn't some ordinary item. I suspect it might be some kind of unknown religious ritual prop or something."
Peter, "Religious, huh? Hold on a second." Peter went to the door, "Neil, come over here."
Jimmy watched as a handsome stranger came upstairs and entered Peter's office, "What's the matter? Peter." Oh right, I remember, that art consultant; he's actually still here? I thought he was just here temporarily to assist with a case.
Peter handed the photographs to Neil, "Take a look at this."
Neil glanced at the photographs and shook his head, "Crude craftsmanship, looks like just a randomly made doll."
Jimmy, "This is very likely some sort of ritual prop, take another look, will you?"
Neil looked up at Jimmy, then said to Peter, "I need to consult someone. Can I take this with me?"
Jimmy, "Sure, but remember to bring it back."
Neil gestured and left the office with the photographs, Jimmy watched him go downstairs, grab his suit and hat, and leave.
Jimmy turned to Peter, "Neil, he's the art consultant you mentioned before, still here? I thought he was just helping with a case."
Peter sat back down, "Offsite monitoring. Neil is a real genius, familiar with all kinds of art, just what we needed."
Jimmy, "What case? How long?"
Peter, "Forgery of securities, about four years. Don't worry, he isn't a dangerous criminal, and he wears a tracker on his leg."
Jimmy, "OK, just asking. Since he's gone to find out more, I'll head back now. Call me if there's news. Thanks, Peter."
Peter waved him off, and Jimmy left the office to make his way back to his and Chris's office to continue slacking off. With no leads at present, all they could do was wait for the results of the Voodoo Doll analysis.
Just before leaving work, Peter called. Jimmy grabbed his suit jacket and ran over, having spent most of the day looking through information, which was far less satisfying than solving a case himself, even though they had few leads and might not even crack the case.
When Jimmy arrived, Neil was already in Peter's office. Holding a photograph of the Voodoo Doll, he said to Jimmy, "I asked a few friends to look at this, and if you're certain it's a ritual prop, this grass doll is very likely a Voodoo Doll from the Voodoo religion. The eyes of the grass doll are two buttons, and there's another button here on the stomach, representing the navel. But it's strange; my friends said that normally, Voodoo Dolls are supposed to be made with black and white stones for the features. This one looks very crude. If it weren't for your insistence on it being a ritual prop, this looks more like a child's handiwork from a craft class."
Jimmy took the photograph, "You're certain it's a Voodoo Doll from the Voodoo religion, right?"
Neil, "At least my friends think it's very likely. Voodoo Dolls are typically made with a cloth outer shell, stuffed with cotton or various hairs, such as from animals. Only Voodoo, originating in Africa and now prevalent in Haiti, favors making dolls with grass."
Jimmy, "OK, thanks, Neil. Pass my thanks to your friends too." After speaking, Jimmy looked at Peter, "Peter, I'll go handle this case, see you."
Peter nodded, and Jimmy left his office to head over to Ruiz's office. Neil watched Jimmy leave their office and then turned to Peter, "He really doesn't seem that threatening, are you sure?"
Peter gestured for him to leave, "Go to Jones."
Neil raised an eyebrow, went downstairs, and approached Jones, "That Jimmy, tell me some things about him. Is he really dangerous?"
Jones looked at him surprised, "Did you cross him? Oh, you probably didn't."
Neil, "What do you mean?"
Jones, "If I were you, I'd stay far away from him." Jones glanced around, then whispered, "I once worked with him to wipe out nine armed men. Yeah, he's very dangerous. Don't mess with him; it'll be trouble if he really gets angry."
Neil, pondering, turned to look outside the office and then went back to his seat.
