Jimmy came to Marvin's side, discussed their next move briefly, and decided to take a detour back to the apartment. Jimmy needed to pick up his rented car and some luggage.
On their way, Marvin turned around; they were indifferent as they had left with light gear, carrying no luggage, unlike Jimmy, who always carried a suitcase whether staying at a hotel or changing clothes at a villa.
There were plenty of medical supplies in the ambulance, enough to treat Frank's bleeding urgently. A short delay wouldn't be a problem. Eagle's Nest was on the eastern side of Chesapeake Bay in Maryland, quite a distance away, so a little delay didn't matter.
Although Marvin often seemed unreliable and disorganized, he was actually highly trustworthy, as long as he was not having one of his episodes.
However, their journey was bound to be tough. Frank briefly explained what had happened inside the Langley building. He found out that the agent who had attacked him and Sara, William Cooper, was in the CIA building. In a heated moment, he went up and had a close confrontation with Cooper. After a struggle, William Cooper shot him in the shoulder. Frank had no choice but to set off a fire alarm to create chaos and escape.
An elite agent getting beaten up inside the CIA building stirred a hornet's nest. One could imagine that all the surveillance cameras around CIA headquarters were now fully activated.
Jimmy was startled, realizing they were all in deep trouble. He hadn't planned on directly confronting the entire CIA now. Reflecting on his route, he figured it shouldn't draw anyone's attention. With makeup on—though not a full face change—it wouldn't be easy for anyone to recognize the disguise. Even if his fake identity was exposed, investigating it would take a significant amount of time.
Following Marvin's earlier instruction, Jimmy had applied glue on his fingerprints, ensuring none were left at the scene. This ruled out a significant risk. What else? Right, the mobile phone. Jimmy checked his phone, a special FBI model secured against wiretapping and tracking. Thankfully, he hadn't brought the phone from his residence in Little Rock.
"Someone is following us," Marvin called out from the front as he was driving the ambulance, which made a conspicuous target. Thus, a sedan that had passed them turned around and started tailing them.
Jimmy moved to the front passenger seat and glanced at the rearview mirror. Frank didn't even seek confirmation from Marvin and just stated, "Lose them."
Marvin instantly pulled a revolver from his clothing, a mighty M500, and while aiming through the rearview mirror, extended the gun out of the window.
"Is this okay?" Jimmy couldn't help but ask Marvin.
"Let's try. Frank can't shoot right now," Marvin replied as he aimed while driving, still able to respond to Jimmy.
"Let me do it," Jimmy offered, extending his right hand.
"You?" Marvin turned to look at Jimmy, then aimed again through the rearview mirror.
"Trust me, I don't want to die here either," Jimmy said, keeping his hand outstretched. Marvin thought for a moment, then handed over the revolver to Jimmy.
Jimmy opened the cylinder to check the bullets, then asked, "How much longer till we get there?"
"10 minutes."
Jimmy moved to the back door. He was about to open it when he suddenly stopped, grabbed a blue protective suit, cut two holes for his eyes, and put it over his head. Opening the back could expose him, and any less exposure was preferable.
Jimmy opened a slight crack. The trailing car was a bit far, beyond Heart Eye's range, but within a proper range for the M500, which he had previously handled at a shooting range. Although the followers were CIA and not aligned with him, Jimmy preferred not to kill if it could be avoided. Looking through the car window, he saw only the driver, so disabling the car would suffice.
Aiming at the front and both sides of the car's engine, Jimmy fired three shots. Not targeting the driver, there were numerous ways to stop the car by shooting from the front like damaging the radiator, nearby pipes, whether exhaust or power steering pumps, or other components. Damaging one or two could likely force it to stop.
After three shots, the trailing car veered right and plunged into a roadside ditch. Jimmy quickly closed the back door.
"Nice shot!" Marvin, who had been watching through the rearview mirror, saw the car enter the ditch.
"Great gun," Jimmy handed the gun back to Marvin. Honestly, he quite fancied owning an M500, but as a Federation agent, carrying one would be alarmingly conspicuous; it wasn't meant for close-range combat.
After a while, they returned to the villa. Marvin continued driving the ambulance to divert attention. Frank got into the car, Joe took over the driving, and Jimmy drove away in his rented car. Fortunately, he had already loaded his suitcase into the trunk earlier; had he needed to pack now, there wouldn't have been enough time.
Jimmy drove off, restored his appearance at a junction, and parted ways with them to ensure he wouldn't be seen with Frank's group.
Initially just set to retrieve some documents, the mission had unexpectedly turned into attacking the CIA building. My god, Frank was truly explosive and had nearly gotten everyone killed.
