North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 636: Hand-to-Hand Combat (Part 2)

Jimmy's reliance is his nerve reflexes that far exceed ordinary people, coupled with the enhancement from Heart Eye allowing him to clearly see Bennett's movements, enabling him to block his moves. However, he is still lacking in strength. The possessed Bennett is extremely strong. Previously, he needed to use both hands to block separately because during the first dagger block, he realized the huge disparity in their strengths.

After continuously blocking several punches from Bennett and even lifting a leg to block a knee strike, Jimmy finally had a chance to counterattack. He ducked down, slashing Bennett's waist with the dagger, dodged under the arm, and then kicked to create distance. His left hand's revolver aimed again at the white spot on Bennett's chest, where he had stabbed before, and pulled the trigger, but it was still too little effect.

This time, Bennett did not continue to attack but turned to Jimmy and said, "You are too weak. I have never seen such a weak Gunman. We haven't heard of you in decades. I didn't expect you all to be here. Are there others?"

Jimmy didn't relax, but he also dared not answer Bennett directly. If Rodney Priest found out about the issue, it would be even more troublesome later: "I don't know what you are talking about, what Gunman?"

Bennett: "Has the legacy been severed? It seems the rumors were true, all the Gunmen have died out. In that case... you shall die too!"

As Bennett was speaking, he suddenly attacked, moving much faster this time. Jimmy found himself fighting Bennett again, but this time he couldn't find an opportunity to shoot. Bennett's speed suddenly increased, as if he was just playing with Jimmy before. Now both were moving fast, responding to each other's actions, making it hard to land the kind of consecutive attacks Jimmy had before.

Rodney Priest and the others took the opportunity while Jimmy was holding off Bennett to check on the unfortunate priest. His arm was broken, and he was covered in blood. Another priest was helping him with emergency treatment, tying off his arm to prevent further blood loss.

Rodney Priest and another person ran to their vehicle. They had only prepared for an on-site Exorcism Ceremony before and hadn't brought much equipment. After the black smoke appeared, they hadn't had time. Now seeing Jimmy could handle Bennett alone, even if only for a short time, gave them time to prepare.

Bennett had now completely given up on Rodney Priest and the others. After exchanging several moves with Jimmy and still unable to take him down, he continued to press his attack, even deliberately exposing flaws to lure Jimmy. However, whenever Jimmy saw an opportunity, he would shoot at Bennett's weak points. Though not fatal, they were still painful and disrupted Bennett's actions.

But soon, Jimmy ran out of bullets. The left-hand revolver became nothing more than a sturdy blunt weapon.

Hand-to-hand combat is always troublesome. Bennett's defensive power is high enough that he would directly take hits from Jimmy's dagger. Though it could cut his skin, it couldn't inflict fatal wounds. Bennett protected vulnerable parts like his eyes and mouth very well, leaving few opportunities for successful stabs. Several times, Jimmy hesitated to strike, fearing a trap.

He could slash Bennett a few times but absolutely didn't want to take Bennett's heavy punches directly. Apart from blocking, Jimmy focused more on evasion. The dodging techniques and footwork he had learned in boxing practice unexpectedly got a thorough workout here, including lateral movements and sidesteps. Under this pressure, he managed to integrate all the knowledge he had only roughly understood before. If he went into a boxing ring with his current evasion skills, he might toy his opponents to death.

Slowly, Jimmy realized his adaptability was improving. Bennett's pressure on him was gradually decreasing. Except for a few unavoidable hits, he could dodge most of Bennett's attacks. After blocking once, he used his left-hand revolver as a blunt object, smashing it against Bennett's head, and when Bennett dodged, he pulled the short sword hanging from Bennett's side, taking a couple of steps to the side to create distance.

Holding a short sword and a dagger, one in each hand, Jimmy sighed deeply. Such intense activity was a test of his stamina too, though Bennett wasn't any better off. His black priest robe looked like a beggar's attire, full of holes, slashed by Jimmy in many places. Even those ripped clothes at New York Fashion Week didn't have nearly as many holes as Bennett's robe.

After Jimmy created distance, Bennett grabbed his clothes and ripped them off. Jimmy suddenly noticed a problem: he hadn't seen Bennett's physique before, but now after the wide priest robe was torn away, he realized Bennett seemed much thinner than he'd initially estimated.

Energy doesn't come from nowhere; his super defensive power seemed to consume a lot of Bennett's muscle and fat. His face looked gaunter than when he was possessed. If this continued, might he not turn into a skeleton?

Besides tearing off his clothes, Bennett also removed all the small items he had on him, throwing them to the ground, including a crucifix, a hand-sized Bible, a necklace, etc., looking much cleaner now.

Jimmy's clothes had also been torn in many places by Bennett, but he dared not loosen his grip on his weapons to take them off. As long as they didn't hinder his movements, he'd rather wear tattered clothes since no one was watching.

Bennett: "I underestimated you. You're a good opponent. Now, tell me your name."

Jimmy: "Didn't you learn our names when you possessed him? Also, before asking my name, shouldn't you say your name first?"

Bennett didn't say his name but charged again. Jimmy continued using his agile movements to dodge, though this time, both hands wielded sharp blades, making counterattacks more frequent.

He misjudged the sharpness of the short sword, unsure if it had extra damage against such Evil Spirits. Wounds inflicted by the short sword taken from Bennett were much deeper than those by Jimmy's dagger, yet these wounds had very little bleeding, as if his body had no blood, just a small amount seep, staining the clothes around the wound red.

"O Lord, we summon the power of your Holy Spirit to banish this possessed person. Use your light and strength to bind the evil forces!"

"O Lord, we ask for your Holy Spirit to come upon us, to protect and save the soul of the possessed with your love and mercy."

"Holy Spirit, by your might, we implore you to bind the evil forces so they cannot harm anyone again!"

The three priests stood in a triangular formation around Jimmy and Bennett, holding up their crosses or emblems toward them and praying. Suddenly, Jimmy felt a power surging from all around them, and he and Bennett were both immobilized on the spot.

Bennett cried "No," struggling forcefully as if trying to break free, but without success.

The three priests prayed as they approached, with Rodney Priest behind Jimmy. He reached out, pulling Jimmy away from Bennett. The binding force didn't stop Jimmy from being pulled aside, and once out of the circle, Jimmy felt the binding power on him vanish.

Taking advantage of being freed, Jimmy quickly picked up the 1875 he had dropped earlier. His bag, which had been torn off during the melee, left him able only to grab spare bullets from his underarm holster, loading them into the chamber.

Rodney Priest pressed an emblem to Bennett's forehead, shouting, "In the name of the Father, the Saint Heir, and the Holy Spirit, I command all evil Spiritual Bodies to leave this person! Submit to God!"

Fixed in place, Bennett could only howl in pain, his head turning slowly. The other two priests pressed their crosses against Bennett, and the three priests chanted in unison. A black smoke twisted out from Bennett's open mouth, drifting into the air.

The black smoke, after leaving Bennett Priest, twisted above his body but did not flee, likely still bound by the priests.

Jimmy tightly gripped an 1875 with both hands, his mind focused to a high degree. The numerous white spots on the black smoke slowly disappeared, leaving only one. "Boom..." The bullet hit that white spot on the black smoke, shattering it, and stopping the smoke's twisting. It dispersed like an explosion, vanishing into the sky.
