Chew, Chew, Chew!
Clint could be seen hurriedly munching on the immobile humans in front of him. Out of the five captives, he had already devoured three, leaving just two alive, not counting the one he had already killed earlier. He ate with reckless speed, showing no regard for anything else. The more he consumed, the more his body appeared to undergo radical changes.
His ripped-off arm had fully regenerated, but he did not stop there. He continued devouring the remaining humans voraciously, each bite feeding his transformation as Max stood in the background, encircled by the terrified survivors and the last remaining demon vessel.
Jim, on the other hand, was engaged with the final demon vessel out of the original twenty-five. It was nothing short of a miracle that he had defeated the other vessels and now faced this last one alone. His body was battered, wounds covering him from head to toe. Blood smeared half of his face, mingling with his own sweat and the residue from the demon vessel's attacks. Deep cuts, lacerations, and punctures marred his skin, yet he gritted his teeth and continued boxing the creature in front of him with relentless determination.
A punch streaked toward him at breathtaking speed, but Jim ducked under it effortlessly. Instantly, he swung his hand in a powerful hook from the side, yet the vessel twisted, narrowly avoiding the blow, countering with a brutal leg strike that hammered into Jim's neck. The force sent him sliding a few inches backward, teeth clenched tightly, pain radiating through his body.
Before he could recover, the vessel darted forward at lightning speed, thrusting its claws at him. Jim slammed his foot into the ground, twisting his body to evade the strike and drove his own claws straight into the demon's abdomen, tearing it open. Blood sprayed in every direction, and the vessel staggered back, momentarily stunned.
Seizing the opportunity, Jim bolted forward with blinding speed, raising his claws for an overhead strike. The vessel, however, ducked just in time, leaving Jim to strike only air with a loud bang. In a flash, the demon lunged, stabbing its claws into Jim's thigh. Pain shot through his body, and he yelled loudly as blood gushed from the wound.
Enraged, Jim slammed his foot into the ground with tremendous force, sending a shockwave of dust into the air, striking the vessel in the eye. It instinctively closed its eyes, making a critical mistake. Jim crouched low, grabbed the demon by the head, and slammed it into the ground so violently that a five-metre-deep crater opened beneath them. Blood spattered everywhere as the vessel's head hit the hard earth.
Clenching his fists, Jim cocked his hand back and slammed it downward through the demon's skull, shattering the bone and deepening the crater. The vessel lay lifeless, its body still trembling from the final impact. Exhausted, Jim drew a hoarse breath and collapsed to the ground, unable to remain upright due to the puncture wound in his thigh. All he could do was watch as Max moved like a storm, dismantling the remaining humans with surgical precision.
'Huh? Where's the leader of the dark forces?' Jim thought, too drained to look around. His eyes followed Max, who effortlessly cut through the gang members, his breathing steady despite the chaos surrounding him.
"How stubborn and persistent can you all be for heaven's sake!" Max thundered as a gang member lunged forward, dagger in hand. Without hesitation, Max lifted his forearm, blocking the attack, then smashed his palm into the man's face with devastating force, sending him hurtling backward like a ragdoll.
A bike chain swung with a swooshing sound toward his face, forcing him to lean back swiftly, letting the weapon streak harmlessly above his head. At the same time, the last remaining demon vessel leapt high into the air, aiming to smash Max violently into the ground.
Still leaning backward, the dragon pivoted gracefully on his feet, letting the vessel crash with a deafening bang. Before it could recover and rise, Max was already directly in front of it. Without wasting a moment, he smashed his fist through the creature's jaw and head, obliterating it in a single, devastating strike. Its body was lifted high into the air, blood spraying in all directions like a torrential rain shower.
Max paused for a brief moment, his fist still lifted after delivering the strike. His piercing gaze stretched straight ahead, causing the gang members to freeze in horror, thinking he was staring directly at them. In truth, his focus was entirely on Clint, who had just finished consuming the last human. Now, an otherworldly aura erupted from his body, rattling every living being in the vicinity.
Clint's roar split the air, ear-piercing and filled with a pain unlike anything anyone had witnessed before. His body underwent grotesque transformations, shifting and contorting as his humanity faded away. They had failed.
The demon vessel was no more; in its place stood a fully fledged, terrifying demon. Meanwhile, Jim remained on the ground, exhausted and unable to move, and Max still stood poised amidst the humans, prepared for the next assault.
"You know what?" Max muttered, swiftly leaning back to avoid a dagger aimed inches from his eye. In one fluid motion, he grabbed the attacker's wrist. With a surge of overwhelming strength, a loud crack filled the air as the man screamed in agony, forcing the others to instinctively take several steps back.
"Screw you all."
[Ruler's Hand Activated]
In an instant, the men lost control of their bodies. They hovered in midair, glowing blue, their limbs frozen as if suspended in time. With a sharp motion, Max swung his hands downward, slamming them all back to the ground with tremendous force.
Blood erupted from their pores under the impact. The ground quaked violently, sending dust and debris shooting upward before settling, only for another shockwave to ripple outward.
Unfortunately for Max and the surrounding humans, Clint's transformation was rapid. Slowly, the newly formed demon stood, towering over the battlefield.
His eyes were now hollow voids of darkness. A single bony wing extended from his right shoulder blade, long horns burst from his skull in a flash, his teeth elongated into razor-sharp fangs, and a snake-like tongue slithered from his mouth.
A chilling smirk spread across his face as he fixed his gaze on the dragon.
"Too bad, you lose." The demon's voice boomed across the area, causing Jim on the ground to slowly turn his head, eyes wide in terror. "Goodbye."
As the words left his mouth, Clint opened his jaws wider than humanly possible. In the blink of an eye, an acidic black sphere of liquid surged forward, streaking toward Max at deadly velocity. The ball was enormous, large enough to encase a full-grown human, and its speed made it nearly impossible to evade.
"No, Max!" Jim shouted, stretching his hands forward in panic, only to see a confident smirk on the dragon's face.
"It's now or never, Ava." Max muttered silently, eyes narrowing at the approaching black mass. Then…
ROOOOARRRRR!
An ear-piercing roar shattered the air, freezing everyone in place. From the building behind Max, something shot out like a bolt of lightning, moving so fast it seemed unreal.
In a split second, it collided with the dragon, darting just in time as the ball of acidic liquid slammed into the ground, disintegrating instantly. Every witness stood stunned, mouths agape, unable to comprehend who—or what—had saved Max from certain annihilation.
