Hunter: Growing Stronger with the Light of the Moon!

Chapter 137: Bad News

According to Vil's meticulously planned scheme, the Eye of Delphilis indeed required the sacrifice of all Dorey City residents, along with five Gold-level Hunters, to awaken.

Vil had mentioned that due to the premature activation of the Eye of Delphilis, it was necessary to sacrifice everyone and every monster involved to achieve perfection.

And yet, Ed didn't need to do anything. The Eye of Delphilis fused directly into his body, accelerating his cultivation speed when he used moonlight for his meditation technique.

This was completely abnormal. Ed felt certain that the Eye of Delphilis had more to it than just increasing his cultivation speed—there must be other effects, though he hadn't yet discovered them.

As Ed was deep in thought, the door to his room suddenly knocked. Eng's voice came from outside:

"Mr. Ed, are you awake?"

Ed pushed aside his concerns about the Eye of Delphilis and opened the door, looking out at Eng.

Eng briefly explained why he had come to find Ed.

"Lord Gavin of Dorey City and his son Andrew have been imprisoned because of yesterday's events. They are begging the guards to allow them to meet with you."

Upon hearing Eng's words, Ed frowned slightly. He remembered clearly how Gavin had ordered him to leave at the city gates in Dorey City.

Gavin's intentions were obvious—he wanted Ed to help him, to plead with Finniel Morton and the Morton Family for a lighter punishment.

Ed shook his head, directly rejecting the request. He had no intention of helping Gavin or Andrew. These two men deserved to face the consequences of their actions.

After receiving Ed's response, Eng nodded, then continued:

"Mr. Ed, Miss Finniel is ready and waiting for you."

With that, Ed followed Eng to Finniel's room.

Finniel Morton's face wore an unmistakable sadness, clearly because she couldn't come to terms with Arya's betrayal.

When she saw Ed, she took a deep breath, and her expression softened, clearly better than before.

Ed didn't notice the subtle change in Finniel's demeanor. Instead, he was thinking about the right time to ask her about the Moonlit Frost Poisonous Mist.

During their previous conversation, he had been too focused on the impact of the Eye of Delphilis to remember the issue of the Moonlit Frost Poisonous Mist.

After all, with his power now at mid-tier Silver Hunter, he didn't need to worry about the Moonlit Frost Poisonous Mist for the time being. His greater concern was the fusion of the Eye of Delphilis in his right eye.

Soon, the four Morton Family guards began leading Finniel, along with Ed, out of the room, heading toward a certain location in Dorey City.

As they passed by the banquet hall of the city lord's estate, Ed instinctively glanced over. The place where Karot had been was now just a dark red stain of blood.

The Karot who had once been so indifferent, selling him, Luna, and the others as slaves, was now probably being torn apart by wild dogs.

Karot was no longer important to Ed. He was dead.

Similarly unimportant was the Parasitic Serpent Monster Vil, whose body had been completely burned to ash.

Now, only Arya remained— the one who had used a Teleportation scroll to escape.

The streets of Dorey City were quieter today, with fewer pedestrians on either side of the road. Perhaps yesterday's events had made the citizens feel safer staying indoors.

As Ed walked with Finniel Morton and Eng, he suddenly noticed many eyes fixed on him.

He looked up and saw that the previously hurried pedestrians had stopped in their tracks, staring at him. Some were even shouting:

"It's Ed! It's Mr. Ed!"

"It's really Mr. Ed! Thanks to him, I'm alive right now!"

"Mr. Ed's here! Everyone, come out!"

The voices of the pedestrians grew louder, their excitement rising. Some were even walking toward Ed, and doors on both sides of the street were opening.

The residents who had been inside their homes, upon seeing that it was truly Ed, stepped out into the street.

The once quiet road had suddenly become filled with people, growing more crowded by the second.

Eng turned back, looking at Ed with a resigned expression and said, "If this keeps up, we'll be surrounded before long. Maybe we should speed up a bit."

Ed looked at the crowd, now surging toward him like a tide, and quickly nodded. "Okay, if we don't leave now, we won't be able to get out. They really are enthusiastic!"

Finniel Morton couldn't help but laugh. Her exquisite face was like a flower blooming under the sun, drawing all attention to her.

She teasingly said, "Facing monsters without flinching, and now when you see people wanting to thank you, you're trying to escape faster? Are the people of Dorey City harder to deal with than yesterday's enemies?"

Ed gave Finniel a helpless look. He couldn't argue with her. After all, the old Ed had hardly socialized. He was more into gaming and had never encountered a situation like this before.

He wasn't quite used to it.

Soon, the group quickened their pace, escaping before the residents of Dorey City could completely surround them.

As they continued walking, the surroundings began to feel more familiar.

Wasn't this the place where Melissa had once recommended the old, rundown library to him?

Finniel had mentioned there was a knowledgeable figure who might be able to answer questions about the Eye of Delphilis—could it be the old man with white hair from the old library?

Before long, when they reached the entrance of the old library, Finniel Morton instructed Eng and the other three guards to wait outside.

Ed understood. This was to keep the events of the previous night—the fusion of the Eye of Delphilis with his right eye—a secret. After all, when the Eye of Delphilis was activated by Vil the previous night, everyone else had been lost in an inescapable, painful illusion. Only he and Finniel had remained unaffected.

Naturally, the others were unaware that the Eye of Delphilis had already fused with Ed's right eye.

As Ed followed Finniel into the library, he immediately noticed that the scene had changed from the first time he visited.

The library was almost empty now, and the many books that had once filled the space were now reduced by nearly half. The entire library felt more vacant. The elderly man with white hair was organizing and packing up books.

Hearing the library door open and someone entering, the old man spoke without turning around, "Sorry, the library is closed for business."

Finniel Morton immediately replied, "Mr. Findley, it's me."

The old man paused for a moment, then slowly turned around. His eyes first landed on Finniel, his face showing a weary expression. He then shifted his gaze to Ed, raising an eyebrow slightly.

Ed noticed the subtle change in Findley's expression. Before he could ask anything, Findley set down the books he was arranging, walked over slowly, and said:

"Did you meet her?"

Ed was momentarily stunned. Sensing the confusion on Ed's face, Findley, his hair completely white, spoke again:

"You must know, the blessing of a special soul. She's gone now."

Ed immediately recalled the strange sensation from last night, when he had tossed the Lucky Dice and the appearance of the small, gray-white hands. Could the "special soul's blessing" Findley mentioned be Alice?

That night, Ed had indeed felt a powerful certainty—when he threw the Lucky Dice, the result would certainly be six!

At that moment, Finniel Morton looked at Ed with curiosity. She was about to ask him something about the Eye of Delphilis, but Ed quickly spoke up first to ask a question.

Letting Finniel ask would be the same as directly revealing to Findley that the Eye of Delphilis had fused with Ed's right eye.

In Ed's view, Finniel was somewhat too naïve.

So, Ed cleverly shifted the topic and asked, "Mr. Findley, how much do you know about the Eye of Delphilis?"

Findley smiled, extending his right hand and waving it in front of Ed.

Ed paused for a moment, then quickly asked, "Five hundred gold coins?"

Findley shook his head and replied, "Five thousand gold coins!"

One question, five thousand gold coins—this was an enormous profit!

At that moment, Finniel Morton took out a storage item and shook it. Instantly, countless golden coins piled up into a small mountain at their feet.

Ed immediately turned his attention to Finniel. She smiled and said, "Is it only five thousand gold coins? So little? I thought it would be at least ten thousand!"

Ed took a deep breath. He now realized that Finniel, from the Holy City's Morton Family, was indeed a wealthy person!

Soon, after receiving the coins, Findley explained everything to Ed with a cheerful smile.

He shared everything he knew about the Eye of Delphilis.

However, there was no information about the Eye of Delphilis fusing with a human, nor any reason why the Eye of Delphilis would increase Ed's cultivation speed.

What worried Ed slightly was that Findley mentioned that, at the moment the Eye of Delphilis was fully awakened through a sacrificial ritual, other parts of Delphilis could sense the approximate location of the Eye of Delphilis.

Ed wasn't sure if the fusion of the Eye of Delphilis with his right eye counted as "awakening" it.

If it did, then he might be in danger.
