Hunter: Growing Stronger with the Light of the Moon!

Chapter 119: Reve's Test

In Ed's room at the Moon Eclipse Demon Hunter Association, Ford sat there, utterly confused, staring at Toronto and Ed. He muttered:

"Wait a minute, Toronto, Captain, what exactly happened? Wasn't the plan to go out tonight?"

"How did we suddenly get to talking about Reve turning into a monster? And what 'huge progress' are you talking about?"

No matter how Ford thought about it, he couldn't understand what Toronto meant by "breakthrough progress," since they hadn't even gone out on the mission yet.

Under Ford's gaze, Toronto sighed and glanced at Ed. He said, "Captain Ed, maybe we should just not explain things to Ford. It's too much of a hassle."

Before Ed could agree, Ford was already upset. He quickly walked over to Toronto, locking his arm around Toronto's throat.

With no choice, Toronto could only pat Ford's arm to signal his surrender.

Then, he began to explain briefly:

"There wasn't any action tonight. The biggest move was to make Reve nervous, to make him think we've discovered some key information. If Reve doesn't want his revenge to be at high risk, the best thing he can do is to make a move on Ed and stop everything from happening."

"But that's exactly what Ed wants!"

Toronto looked at Ed with admiration in his eyes and said directly, "Captain Ed, you must have used the recording stone to capture everything, right?"

Ed nodded and took out a recording stone. Soon, the image of Reve transforming into a monster and declaring his intention to kill everyone in Dorey City appeared before Toronto and Ford again.

Ford's mouth dropped open in disbelief, his eyes wide like saucers. He stared at Ed, stuttering:

"Captain, this... this was your plan? My God, that was way too dangerous! If anything had gone even a little bit wrong in that fight, you would have been dead already!"

After watching the recording stone, Toronto instinctively nodded, agreeing with Ford's words.

The whole process had truly been perilous. Reve, after turning into a monster, was terrifyingly powerful. If Ed had been even a second too slow, his head would've been smashed like a watermelon.

If Ed had activated the Guardian Scroll even a moment earlier, the result would have been the same: the Guardian Scroll wouldn't have lasted long enough, and Ed would have been killed by the monsterized Reve before anyone else could arrive!

Any other Hunter of Ed's level would have been dead by now in such a situation!

Only Captain Ed could pull something like this off.

Thinking about this, Toronto's admiration for Ed deepened even more. It was when he saw Ed subtly wink at him that he realized things weren't as simple as they seemed.

Faced with the unease from Ford and Toronto, Ed's expression remained unusually calm. In fact, he had other methods to delay time. If worse came to worst, he could use the high-level spiritual treasure from his storage pouch.

However, if he did that, the president of the Moon Eclipse Demon Hunter Association, Arya, would see the footage on the recording stone and realize that the one-eyed man was the one Ed had killed, and that the high-level spiritual treasure was on him as well.

Fortunately, the two Guardian Scrolls, along with the Blue Fire Seal's eruption, had bought Ed enough time.

And because everything was so perilous—just one moment more, and Ed would have been dead—Reve wouldn't think he'd been outsmarted.

Also, Ed needed to make sure Reve believed everything was under control. Only then would Reve say something crucial. The mere image of Reve attacking him wouldn't be enough to convince Finniel Morton and his group.

Now, not only did they have footage of Reve transforming from a Hunter into a monster, but they also had him openly admitting to collaborating with Vil and planning to kill everyone in Dorey City.

Next, they just needed to find a way to get Finniel Morton and his group to see the recording stone containing the key evidence. That would be enough to completely reverse the situation and stop the enemy's plans!

Ed took a deep breath and said to Toronto and Ford:

"I'll come to find you a few more times during this period. You need to be careful and act well. I need you to show that you've completely lost faith in me, that you no longer believe anything I say. Can you do that?"

Ed's latter statement was directed at Ford. He wasn't worried about Toronto—this guy was much smarter than Ford and a great actor.

Reve would definitely continue to monitor their every move. If it was discovered that he had been played by Ed all along, and that the plan to target Dorey City had changed, that would be a serious problem.

Ford patted his chest and swore, "Captain, don't worry! I won't make any mistakes!"

The three of them briefly discussed specific countermeasures, then Ed sent Toronto and Ford on their way.

As for Ed, he took another look at the footage on the recording stone. This stone had been placed long ago, and the route he took back from Blackstone Team had been carefully thought out.

Only the area where the recording stone was placed was the most suitable for Reve to make his move.

Watching the footage of Reve transforming from a human into a monster, Ed took a deep breath, his mind racing with questions. What exactly was Moon Eclipse Demon Hunter Association's Deputy Leader Reve?

Was he human?

Or a monster disguised as a human?

Did the president of Moon Eclipse Demon Hunter Association, Arya, know about this?

Ed suppressed these questions deep within his heart, glancing at the moonlight outside the window. Even though he had just survived a life-threatening situation, it couldn't interfere with his meditation technique training under the moonlight to enhance his strength.

In a few days, he would be able to reach 100% progress, elevating himself from a Silver-level Low-tier Hunter to a Silver-level Mid-tier Hunter.

The only thing he wondered was whether he would receive rewards like Mastery of Swordsmanship, the Low-Level Monster Codex, or Killer Intent Perception again.

...

Under the moonlight, Toronto and Ford, both wearing Nightcloaks, were walking toward their room.

Ford was about to say something to Toronto, but Toronto clapped him on the shoulder, sighed, and said:

"Sigh, how did the captain end up like this? I'm starting to wonder if everything the captain said about crises was just in his imagination."

Ford paused for a moment, not quite understanding why Toronto was saying this as they were near their room.

Still, he played along with Toronto's act, nodding gravely, and replied, "Yeah, maybe the captain couldn't kill the monster Vil when he found the ruins, and now he's having psychological issues, thinking that monster might come back."

As they continued talking, they slowly approached the door to their room.

Just as they reached the door, Ford's heartbeat suddenly quickened because, standing in the shadows near the door, was a figure.

It was Deputy Leader Reve from Moon Eclipse Demon Hunter Association!

Reve's face was filled with a worried expression as he asked Toronto and Ford, "How's your captain? Still rambling nonsense?"

Ford, fully aware of the situation, thought it would be better if Toronto answered Reve's question.

Toronto, as though startled, patted his chest and said, "Deputy Leader, you scared me! My heart is racing now. I almost drew my sword to defend myself."

Reve gave a half-smile and replied, "What, you all think I'd suddenly turn into a monster too?"

Toronto couldn't help but laugh, moving closer to Reve, studying him carefully. He shook his head and said, "Impossible. If you were a monster, President Arya would have noticed by now."

Reve sighed and slowly said, "I don't know why Ed thinks I'm a monster. I wanted to check on him, but if I go to his room, it might make things worse. That's why I came to ask you two."

Toronto nodded, sighing as well. He calmly spoke with Reve, discussing Ed's recent behavior. Every day, he seemed anxious and worried, making Toronto believe that something serious was about to happen.

Now, it seemed that Ed was just overwhelmed by stress or scared by the events involving the ruins, which was why he was acting this way.

Toronto even spoke with a hint of self-blame, as though he had failed to notice Ed's unusual behavior earlier, which led to the current situation.

Throughout the conversation, Reve showed no sign of suspicion. It wasn't until he was about to leave and passed by Ford that he suddenly remembered Ford hadn't spoken at all.

Reve stopped in his tracks and slapped Ford on the shoulder. He said to him, "Take good care of Ed. Even if he's in a bad state right now, after all, you owe your life to him for saving you from that ghoul... Your heart seems to be beating pretty fast."

Reve's tone shifted, and the atmosphere in the room became tense.

Toronto stood behind Reve, instinctively feeling a little nervous, worried that Reve might sense something was off.

But in that crucial moment, Toronto suddenly realized something. He controlled his facial expression and naturally let a look of confusion appear.

At that moment, Reve turned around sharply and looked directly at Toronto.

There was no sign of nervousness or unease from Toronto. It was as if he was just puzzled by Ford's rapid heartbeat.

With Reve's gaze fixed on him, Toronto asked, "Ford, what's wrong? Are you getting too excited?"

Before Ford could answer, Reve slapped Ford's shoulder again and said, "Haha, maybe I was mistaken. You two should get some rest."

With that, Reve left Ford and Toronto's sight.
