Anton knew from reading web novels that entertainment businesses would thrive more in trying times, since people wanted to forget the problems that were knocking on their door. He guessed that even wizards were prone to that kind of behavior. It was also his most grievous failing. He thought that if he truly focused especially on the Diablo II game inside his system and not on watching movies, television shows, anime, and even reading web novels, or simply rotting his brain watching short videos from Earth, he might have already reached the Invincible rank.
He kept reiterating the excuse that he would achieve a much healthier mind if he spent time enjoying himself by doing his hobbies.
Anton did not want to down himself too much and thought of the fact that even if he reached the Supreme Rank or even the Invincible Rank while he was traveling on the ocean, he still wouldn't have the power to rescue his friends. There were simply too many undead spellcasters attacking the Amelia, and if he managed to fight them because he was able to defend himself from the mental attacks, he might have reached his demise instead of being able to escape with his father and sister. He did not know if that was true, but that was what he was telling himself.
Anders also wrote about his personal leveling experience. Anton received a promise from his father that soon, Anders would be powerful enough to join him.
Anton was grateful to his father for the detailed information that was on the letter. He hoped that the war with the undead would end in Mendoza. It was a little grim, but he was thankful that everyone agreed that if the kingdom of Mendoza fell, the undead would probably attack New Drennor first since it was nearer. Anton even previously thought that New Drennor would be the first kingdom that the Undead Coalition would attack.
He then wondered if the Coalition had truly conquered Rendindura. More than likely, they already did, because why would they turn their attention to the Gale Continent? Another question that Anton had was why the Coalition chose the Gale Continent? There were other continents nearer to Rendindura.
After reading his father's and his sister's letters, Anton turned his attention to leveling up his ladder Paladin character since he was sure that he would reach the maximum level that day. Once he reached level 99, he could transfer the Carrion Shank Demon Hide Boots from inside his Diablo II system into the real world. He would also earn twenty percent of the Paladin's main stat, and those two things would greatly increase his power.
During noon, he stopped to eat lunch. While doing so, he heard knocking on his door, and when he opened it, he saw that it was Captain Leonard.
"Captain! How can I help you? Do you have questions about the dire wolf summon?" Anton asked after inviting the Captain in and offering food to the Captain, who gladly accepted.
"Anton, your dire wolves tablet summon, although you mentioned that they're weaker than your actual summons, were extremely powerful, especially when they formed a pack. The ten wolves managed to protect us during our fight, and because they were also protecting each other, they received minimal damage. They can also heal themselves by eating the undead corpses. That meant that they're highly effective, and Major Mason is asking me if you can provide more," Captain Leonard asked while they were eating.
If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
"Are you all not a bit turned off by the wolves eating the undead?" Anton curiously asked.
"Some do, but most are saying that it's actually helpful since the undead that were eaten would probably not be summoned by the liches anymore. Besides, even if the wolves ate the corpses, there's no lingering smell. We carefully observed them eating, and we discovered that once the flesh entered their mouth, the flesh actually turned into some form of blue energy. It's fascinating to look at," Captain Leonard marveled.
Anton was surprised by the new information that he received about the summons.
"The higher-ups already asked me, and I'm already providing them one summoning tablet a day," Anton replied.
"We know. I've heard that the queue to receive your tablets is already numbered in the thousands. Major Mason is taking advantage of my connection to you," the captain helplessly said.
Anton just laughed and gave Captain Leonard a dire wolf summoning tablet.
"You have to remind the major that it's 2000 gold coins."
"He knows. It's just that the major did not provide me with any funds since he was pessimistic that I would be able to secure the tablets."
"Just give him that one, so you can get him off your back. Tell him that I can't provide anymore since the wizards are taking them all."
Captain Leonard was extremely grateful, and once he left, Anton continued leveling up his ladder Paladin character. Once the sun had set, he successfully reached the maximum level for the character and immediately transferred the boots that he planned to transfer from inside the game to real life, and the stats automatically transferred to him as well.
He could feel his power grow, and before he slept, he created his new ladder Assassin character. After that, he prepared himself to rest. He was glad that his apartment was extremely comfortable, and he didn't even have to use his own magic items since the apartments came with their own arrays that controlled the temperature, and the bathroom also had running water.
Someone knocked on his door at around ten in the evening, and thankfully, Anton was awake by then and was already prepared to go out. The one on the door was a messenger asking him to attend the meeting in the conference room.
While walking towards the meeting room, Anton felt a little apprehensive. Was there new information or news, and was it bad one? He was grateful when he found out that it was just a regular meeting that did not contain any new information aside from the wizards discussing the effectiveness of the tablet dire wolves that Anton provided.
"We hoped that you could provide more, Anton. An army of those wolves seemed effective," One of the supreme wizards said.
"We're even prepared to relieve you of your duties in defending the wall and focus on creating those tablets," Another one added.
"I'm sorry, guys, I can truly create just one a day. It was already taking up the majority of my day," Anton lied.
He felt that casting spells using the magic array from the walls of Mendoza was much more effective in destroying the undead than his supplying the dire wolves with summoning tablets. Anton really did not want to be forced to be a crafter of those tablets, since he felt that he would lose his mind if he did nothing else. Besides, he felt that the people of Mendoza desired them because they were a novelty.
Unfortunately, it appeared that they did not believe his claims that he could only craft one, but he insisted. It almost came to the point that he would threaten to leave and return to his previous squad if they had insisted some more, but thankfully, Cedon probably felt that Anton was going to do something like that, so the young Supreme Wizard stopped everyone from persuading him to provide more tablets. After that meeting, they all went to their station to await the nightly attack of the undead horde.
