Chapter 131: Departure - Going To The Ancient Ruin Map

On a quiet road, infrequently used by people, an ordinary carriage moved at a moderate speed.

The sound of the creaking wheel echoed along the quiet road. Inside the carriage, two people sat opposite each other, each minding their own business.

They were Jun Wu and Mei Ling.

The small table between them was packed with ancient books and parchment still wet with ink.

"How long is the next village?" Jun Wu asked, without raising his head from his study.

"We should arrive at Jade Flower Village very soon," Mei Ling replied as her hand danced on the parchment while she wrote.

The duo had been traveling for the past five days.

After the battle with the beast tide, they waited two days to make preparations for their departure before leaving discreetly.

For the covert mission, Jun Wu did not bring any of his protectors; more people would alert their enemies of their departure.

Passing through villages and towns, they had heard news about the Master Teacher and also learned of the hostility directed at them.

However, this had little effect on them. Right now, their mission was to visit the location on the map they found in the ancient ruin.

While all the powerful forces in the region were looking for them, no one would have expected that he would be so daring as to travel across the region.

With Mei Ling awakening the History domain, they could no longer delay their visit to the ancient location.

Perhaps this might prove helpful to both him and her.

Suddenly, the carriage came to an abrupt halt. Both Jun Wu and Mei Ling raised their heads in confusion.

Why did they stop?

Outside, the coach driver came down with a deep frown on his old face. He stared at the tree blocking their path.

"Why would such a tree appear here?" the old coach driver muttered, his confusion deepened.

With his years of being a coach driver, he knew something was definitely wrong. Quickly, he rushed to report.

"What? A tree blocking the way." Jun Wu frowned and exchanged a glance with Mei Ling.

However, before they could decide what to do, they heard a loud scream from the nearby forest.

"Hahaha! This is easier than I imagined." A boisterous voice came from the forest.

A group of men clad in worn-out leather armor jumped out of the forest, each wielding an ordinary weapon.

The bandits stared at the carriage with faces filled with anticipation and greed.

"Come out now and surrender. We won't make things difficult for you." The bandit leader shouted.

An ordinary carriage posed no threat to their group. With no guards protecting them, they could easily take them down.

"Boss, should I go and bring them out?" One of the lackeys asked with a fawning smile.

"No, let's wait for them to come out. That old coach driver is nothing," he replied cautiously.

Before they knew what they were dealing with, it was better to be cautious. Creak!

From the carriage, a young man stepped down, followed by a young man with a veil covering his face.

When the bandits set their eyes on Mei Ling, their eyes shone with greed.

Although they couldn't see her face, her exquisite figure was enough to make them imagine her body.

Feeling their lustful gaze, Mei Ling was furious. Without hesitating, she unsheathed her weapon and moved.

Whoosh!

Before the bandits could realize what was going on, three heads were already in the sky.

Most of the bandits were merely Third-Rated Martial Artists, while a few were Second-Rated Martial Artists.

Their leader was the only one at the Early Stage First-Rated Martial Artist.

However, compared to Mei Ling, who was an Intermediate Stage First-Rated Martial Artist, they were nothing.

Ahhhh! Ahhhh!

Bodies fell like dry leaves.

Those who still had their heads intact had deep gashes across their chests.

Their worn-out leather armor stood no chance against her blade.

Watching his men fall so quickly, the bandit leader was stunned.

How could this be?

Why would such a powerful martial artist use this desolate path?

Besides, their carriage was just too ordinary.

For many years, he had been hunting on this path without any difficulty.

He was cautious and would not attack any powerful merchant or carriage.

This method was what allowed him to reach his current realm. But now, he knew he'd poked a hornet's nest.

"I need to get out of here!" he screamed in his heart.

As for fighting Mei Ling, the thought never appeared in his mind.

Swiftly, he turned and tried to escape. Unfortunately, he barely moved a couple of meters before a sense of dread washed over him.

"Danger!"

All the hair on his body stood on end.

Without thinking, he turned and raised his saber to protect himself.

Clang!

Two weapons collided and sparks flew everywhere.

The bandit leader skidded backward, his arm trembling. From the single attack, he knew he was no match for her.

Fear and regret etched on his face. He wanted to escape, but he knew that was impossible.

Thus, he had only one option left—plea.

He opened his mouth to plead for his life only to watch Mei Ling's cold blade coming for his neck.

"Fuck!" He screamed as he hastily defended.

Clang! Clang!

He barely parried two strikes when his left arm was severed from his body.

Ahhhh!

A miserable scream echoed from his body as he retreated. Blood gushed out from his severed arm, his face paled.

However, Mei Ling remained cold and indifferent as she followed up with another strike.

"Please…" The bandit leader cried, begging for his life. Unfortunately, his plea fell on deaf ears.

Ahhh!

A guttural sound escaped from his mouth as he fell to his knee and used his right hand to hold his neck.

He stared at the cold and indifferent girl before him with regret and unwillingness.

Thud!

His body hit the ground, and his head rolled off his neck.

Mei Ling, without any change in her expression, sheathed her sword and returned to the carriage.

Frozen, the old coach driver forced himself to swallow the lumps in his throat, his back drenched in cold sweat.

He looked at the calm young man beside him and stuttered, "Y-Young… "

"Don't worry about her. Clear the road and let us resume our journey," Jun Wu said with an assuring smile as he returned to the carriage.

To him, this was just a short episode on their journey. The real threat lies beyond as they cross the Soaring Cloud Region border.
