Dark Dragon: The Summoned Hero Is A Villain

Chapter 153: A Portal To The Foe

A few minutes earlier.

Garret, Lord Rowe's right hand man, exchanged glances with his partner.

Together, they glanced at the two sets of guards placed in the hallway to watch over their work.

He was sure there was another set outside the building, making sure they didn't move from here.

However, he had his orders from Lord Rowe. The man had added him to the agents, then left his man behind on the inside.

He knew that if he stayed in the academy, the principal would never take his eyes off him, so Lord Rowe had decided to leave, and with that, give them a false sense of security.

And in the hole they leave behind, he'll strike.

Garret turned back to his partner, giving him a nod. It was time.

They abandoned the charred outline on the floor of the dead Galahad's room, standing up.

The two guards posted at the door immediately fixed their eyes on them, alert.

Galahad watched as his partner moved to the window, looking out of it, before closing it, the blinds following after, cutting the room from view of the outside.

"Is everything okay?" One of the school guards asked, eyes peeled.

"Of course." Garret grinned. "We simply need to close all openings for the spell to gain all information." He said, pointedly eyeing the door.

The guards exchanged glances, looking uncomfortable.

"Don't worry," Garret laughed. "If you don't want to leave us alone, you can just be here with us and watch the process. As long as the door is closed."

The guards hesitated.

"Just ten minutes." Garret smiled.

After a few seconds of communicating with their eyes and body language, the guards agreed. "Alright."

"Thank you." Garret gave them a nod. Returning the nod, one of them leaned outside the door, explaining the situation to the set posted outside.

Then, he returned, closing the door behind him. "Just ten minutes, right?" The man asked.

"Yes." Garret grinned innocently. "Just ten minutes."

With that, he turned to his partner, and gave the guy a nod.

Turning towards the charred outline on the floor, Garret splayed his hand out, palm down, and the spell formation appeared above it.

The academy guards leaned in.

He cast the spell, and a wave of energy swept through the room.

The moment the wave touched the guards, they fell asleep, their bodies locking them in place.

He grunted at the sight. This was one of the spells of his Dream affinity. And he hadn't been lying. His spell would only last ten minutes, and they had to be back here before the time was up.

With his part of the job done, Garret looked up, walking towards his partner. "Did you pick out a place?"

The man nodded, placing his hands on Garrett's shoulders. "Hang tight."

An instant later, the world around them disappeared, replaced by the cold darkness of the roof of one of the academy's buildings.

The entire transportation had been like flipping a page.

This was the reason why they had both been chosen for this job. Their Void affinity. He had the Void and Dream affinities, while his partner had the Void and Sound affinities.

Climbing down quietly from the building, they made their way a short distance through campus to arrive near the first year Gold-tier dorm.

They quickly spotted the guards posted to watch the dorm, disposing of them.

Lord Rowe had predicted this too. That the academy would suddenly assign assets to watch Noah Webb's dorm. Well, that didn't matter anymore.

Climbing the walls, and with his partner casting a silence spell, they made their way into the young man's dorm room.

Garret glanced at the bed, taking in the shape under the covers, but he made no move towards it.

That was not his mission. He was simply here to open the way.

Exchanging a nod with his partner, they both raised their hands, and cast the same spell. The energies of their spells intersected, tearing a hole between this room and one in the capital.

A purple swirl appeared in the air, flecks of black appearing and disappearing as its surface bubbled like a cauldron.

Lord Rowe sat behind his desk, unable to believe what had just happened.

He didn't know how to react to it and what it meant. Especially because of the man who had delivered the message and just left.

The High Magus, Master Edric.

Rowe stared at the spot the man had been standing just a minute before, different words echoing inside his brain.

Innocent.

The Summoned Hero.

Noah Webb.

It was as if a deity had just informed him that the ground was the sky all along.

He ran his hand through his hair, sending it sticking this way and that, but he didn't care.

Noah Webb had nothing to do with the death of his daughter, and was off limits. He was the salvation of Camelot, the hero who was destined to end the war between humans and demons.

Or at least, that was what he had been told.

Rowe had no idea what to believe anymore.

Had the demons used his daughter to attack the chosen one? If so, how had they entered the capital?

Had the giant enchantment buried under the city failed? Impossible. There was no way it had failed.

So, what was the truth, and what was the lie?

At this point, he had no idea. All he'd heard Edric talk about was salvation. But what does salvation matter to a man who has lost his hope?

Rowe was jarred out of his thoughts as the portal appeared before him. Garret had fulfilled his task.

He sat there, staring at the portal for a few seconds. He'd been ordered not to touch Noah on the pain of death.

But the revelation had also told him one thing. Whoever had killed his daughter, they were related to Noah.

He didn't know if there were his enemies, or they were his friends, but he was willing to find out.

And so, he stood, walking into the portal. He emerged on the other side, into a dark room, his two soldiers standing on either side.

They bowed deeply. "My Lord."

"You've done great." He nodded at them. "You may leave."

With a nod, they grabbed each other by the shoulder, and teleported away, the portal still floating in the room.

Rowe made his way to the desk, taking a seat.

Then his eyes moved to the shadow on the other side of the room.

"Come out, Noah Webb. We have a lot to discuss."
