Noah sat at his desk, pulling the spatial ring out of his pockets.
He'd long since made his way to his dorm room, having a shower, and was now prepared to hit the bed. All that was left was to test his new spatial ring.
He held the ring up to the lantern in the room, examining it. It was plain, with no engravings. And to the normal eye, it looked normal.
From what Noah had learnt from Enchantments, all enchanted objects had complex formations engraved on them, so this had to be one of two things.
Either the formation was so tiny, he couldn't see it, which was unlikely, or the formation had been sealed into the ring, so that it couldn't be seen from the outside.
Either way, he knew it was a delicate piece of work.
He narrowed his eyes at the ring, wondering if it'll fit his ring finger. It just seemed too small.
With a frown, he wore it. A second later, he stared blankly at the screen. It fit perfectly.
He almost didn't believe it. His eyes had told him the ring wouldn't fit.
He pulled off the ring, placing it in his middle finger. It also fit. He blinked at the sight.
Removing it from the middle finger, he wore it on his thumb. It fit perfectly.
That was when he realized that it was a part of the enchantment. The ring would resize itself to fit whatever hand he wore it on.
With a smile on his face, he wore it on his right hand, on the ring finger.
Nothing happened.
"Is that all?"
That was when the ring glowed, its surface growing warm for a second. And something clicked into place.
Noah could feel it. Another space, just to the side of him. He could somehow dip his hand inside of it, but his hand couldn't go inside of it.
It was a strange, paradoxical feeling. After all, how could both opposites be true?
He looked around the room for anything he could use to test the ring, before his eyes settled on his leather cloak, hanging off a hook next to his bathroom door.
He stood from desk, and walked to it. Grabbing the cloak off the hook, he moved his hand to the side, dropping the cloak into the spatial ring.
The cloak disappeared from view.
He smiled, feeling the space in the spatial ring with his mind. It wasn't large. Just the size of a large travel luggage box. But it was enough.
He made his way back to the desk, his eyes landing on the spell parchments sitting atop it.
The S-rank Pocket Cube, shimmering with its own light, the solid black dot sitting unshakable in the middle.
The A-rank Null Stride, with its purple parchment and lighter purple spell formation.
Frigid Hunger, and Eternal Cradle, the off-white color of their spell parchments sitting innocently beside them.
Then there was the Aegis of Hades, darkness wafting off the spell parchment.
He picked them up one after the other, sliding them into his spatial ring.
He smiled at the now empty desk, looking around his room, wondering what else to keep in the spatial ring. Nothing came to mind.
And so, he walked to his bed, plopping on it, and huddling under the covers.
Sleep came slowly, but surely, enticing him into its comforting embrace. He laid there, a smile on his face.
Just as he was about to fall asleep, his shadows began howling in a frenzy.
"They come! They come!"
"Assassins!"
Noah threw off the cover and jumped out of bed, the sleep in his eyes gone. 'Assassins?'
One of the shadows peeled off the rest, its blue eyes glinting in the darkness. "We saw them! They're outside! Climbing in! Two of them! They seek your death!"
That was all Noah needed to know. He rushed to his wardrobe, pulling out his spare uniforms. He dumped them on his bed in a straight lump, covering the blanket over it to serve as a decoy.
When the assassin enters, they'll think he was sleeping. With that, he'll be able to take care of them, discreetly. With Devour, as always.
He tilted his head, wondering if he was becoming a one trick pony, as he ducked into a shadowed corner of the room, hiding there.
'Nah. There's no need to change what's working.'
Besides, he had stronger spells than Devour that he could cast. They just seemed to be more... final. They destroy things with no benefit to him.
Maybe later, he'd have to find a way to upgrade Devour. That way, he'd even be able to devour S-rank beings and above.
After all, even though he'd received a S-rank spell from the Void Tortoise when he'd fought it, the monster itself hadn't been S-rank.
He heard movement outside his window, as the assassins finally arrived. He used that moment to quickly check his status, and reorient himself with the tools he had at his disposal.

He had no skill that could help at this moment, as his body wouldn't be able to handle them.
As for his spells, he had variety to choose from. Devour, Rot Blackflame, Pillar of Judgement, and Void Bolt.
He wouldn't be merciful.
The assassins slowly undid his latch. One of them casted a spell, and an unnatural silence filled the room.
They opened the window, making no sound.
Noah almost smiled. These guys were professionals.
He watched as they climbed in, none of them saying a word. The silence still persisted as they looked around his room.
However, instead of coming to his bed and killing him like he'd predicted, they raised their hands in unison, and opened a portal in his room.
