The Logistics Department is located on the third floor of the 72nd Education Building of Wind Thunder Military Academy. At first glance, there isn't a shortage of students enrolling. The third floor is teeming with people.
The scope of the logistics range is extensive, covering everything from military supply replenishment, ammunition transportation, power management, warship maintenance to battlefield cleaning. In short, bring it all on.
However, one has to admit that logistics is a profession considered less prominent compared to others. When the brave federation soldiers charge into battle, your job is to ensure logistical support. When high-ranking officers award merits to a doing or soldier, you can only look on enviously.
The students in the academy can proudly announce their status as field soldiers, special forces, or pilots. But in logistics, most of the time is spent in space.
Upon entering the classroom and taking a seat, Feng Yi sighed, resigned to his situation.
The first class today was taught by the lovely robot, Miss Laura. Through the light screen monitor, inside the Student Union, Zi Mou was observing the reactions of every fresh student. Her high-speed brain CPU categorized the students into two groups: the outstanding ones and those failing, including the 58 latecomers all recorded on a notepad.
Just the first day, no matter what anyone thinks, from now on, those 58 freshers have no chance of getting through in Zi Mou's book. The Wind Thunder Military Academy is a solemn place. She doesn't tolerate students with a poor attitude. She is strict with others but also with herself at all times.
In this class, Laura mainly explains basic principles to all the students. Following these teachings, students will have a clearer understanding of their personal aspirations and what they aim to achieve by choosing their majors. Even though the enrollment process isn't a secret, the procedure is still necessary.
During the question-and-answer session, some students had already asked the burning questions in everyone's mind, and their questions were projected onto a virtual light screen for everyone to see: "Miss Laura, will we be going to the battlefield in the future?"
"Different positions carry different responsibilities. Whether you go to the battlefield depends on many factors."
"Teacher, I am a civilian from the Liden Star Domain. The area where my home is located has now been devastated by the Saudi Empire. Can you tell me about the current state of the war there?"
"Details of the war are subjected to Level 3 confidential security, hence, I cannot disclose any information." Laura sighed softly in a human-like manner, "If you have loved ones there, I believe they should be safe."
"Thank you! Thank you!" Upon hearing Laura's response, the student was so moved that he started tearing up. Even though Laura did not directly answer his question about the war situation, her words brought him some peace.
Throughout the two-hour class, Laura patiently answered a variety of student questions, being an AI system, she possesses relative consciousness rather than absolute consciousness.
This class was a breeze, but Feng Yi didn't learn anything new.
As the class ended, the energetic young men and women from all corners of the federation quickly started to discuss various topics. Some talked about the military, some gossip, some about relationships. The atmosphere in the room was rather lively.
Suddenly, a young man with black skin draped his arm around Feng Yi's shoulder, "We're going to be sitting next to each other from now on. I'm Elvis from the Fairy Star Domain. Let's take care of each other in the following months."
"Sure."
"Hey buddy, can I borrow your notes to take a look? I was too excited to sleep last night, and I kept dozing off during class."
This guy sure was friendly, Feng Yi was a bit taken aback, regardless of whether others took notes, he didn't care to. He said, "I didn't take any notes either."
"I thought Miss Laura's lecture was fine, but I fell asleep halfway through. Bro, why didn't you take any notes?"
"Not interested, she was just covering some basic stuff that everyone knows. I thought of it more as a storytime." Feng Yi was puzzled by Elvis's surprised expression.
"Seriously? Those basic theories are vital, they're experiences from the battlefield — hey, don't tell me you're not interested in… " Elvis's expression turned mischievous, he glanced at the group of girls and gave Feng Yi a knowing smile, "more interested in girls, perhaps?"
Feng Yi sighed in resignation, "It's not about interest. I prefer actual combat over theoretical discussions, and as for liking something...well, I guess mech counts."
"Oh my God, you actually like mechs? Not only does that major require a lot of intensive training, but once you are on the battlefield, you become a moving target. Operating a mech isn't easy, not as flexible as our own two legs. Hold on a sec!" Elvis slapped his forehead as though he had an epiphany, "Mate, you didn't end up in the logistics major because you were late, did you?"
Feng Yi felt a bit embarrassed: "That's exactly what happened."
"Figured as much. Didn't you go to the Student Union or any other clubs to check them out?"
"I'm not sure what you mean, Elvis." Feng Yi was confused; it didn't seem relevant to the topic at hand.
Elvis patted Feng Yi on the shoulder, looking serious, "The members of the Student Union have the privilege of jumping in line, so to speak. In other words, they can choose their majors freely. As far as I know, besides the Student Union members, other key club members also have the privilege to choose their majors freely."
A thought flashed into Feng Yi's mind; with this privilege, he could avoid many detours. He became excited when he found this potential opportunity, so he asked, "What do you mean by 'key clubs'?"
"Key clubs..." Elvis stroked his chin, looking thoughtful, "are like exclusive departments within the academy. They consist of student-formed groups. The Military Encyclopedia Club, the Tactical Calculation Club, the Mecha Engineering Club, the Kendo Club, the Martial Arts Club, and the Culture Club can all be included in this category. These clubs are diverse, as far as I know, there are at least 8 different Mecha Engineering Clubs."
Elvis paused before continuing, "Among these, the clubs that possess unique individual abilities or those who have made outstanding contributions to technological innovation in the Academy are considered key clubs. The Wind Thunder Military Academy sees the emergence of new clubs and the fall of old ones every year. That's about it."
"Elvis, you've done me a huge favor."
"Oh, it's nothing." Elvis advised, "But let me add, the key clubs are not fixed each year, and there might even not be a key club in some years. So the safest way is still to apply to join the Student Union — as for the Discipline Committee, it's better to stay away."
"Oh? Is there something I should know about the Discipline Committee?"
Elvis leaned in and whispered in Feng Yi's ear, "I tell you, that Discipline Committee is no place for ordinary people. Those committee members are like a bunch of arrogant city managers, always acting high and mighty. They are impatient and could give you a hard time if you don't handle them right. Don't say I didn't warn you, keep your distance when you see them."
