Excessive amounts of methane can be dangerous, and even Feng Yi's constitution would struggle to cope with such high concentrations. Prior to his arrival, Feng Yi had done his research and specially purchased a gas mask for emergency use. However, he also had another method: unleashing a Storm Stance to envelop his body and prevent harmful gases from seeping into a one-meter radius around him.
This move not only provides resistance against methane, but also effectively guards against radioactive substances. The only drawback is that it drains his physical energy strand by strand in the process. Still, this continuous depletion of energy could potentially serve as a form of self-cultivation for Feng Yi. Energy sustainability — or the lack of it — is a common issue for explosive-type fighters. Even though this issue doesn't seem prominent among top-tier fighters, they all share a common trait: they can often muster significant additional explosive power when at a greater disadvantage in terms of energy. This contrasts sharply with steady and methodical fighters like Mu Tou.
Although Feng Yi has significantly more physical stamina and resilience compared to ordinary people — even hundreds of times more — it is still insufficient when compared to his peers during a battle. As time prolongs, the difference in stamina will become conspicuous. The battle with the Scorpio Organization is a good example. In that contest of wisdom and courage, Feng Yi could hardly have survived without his substantial fighting experience. Therefore, continually exerting the Storm Stance was planned before Feng Yi's arrival.
Off in the distance, there were heaps of mechanical wreckage mixed with countless chemical waste, discarded equipment, surplus items and various unrecyclable resources. For some reason, even seemingly intact metal objects were abandoned. The surroundings were filled with a nauseating stench. One can only wonder what kind of scene would a lit fire create in this environment.
At present, Feng Yi wasn't in a rush to find everything he was searching for. In fact, he wasn't entirely sure of what he was looking for. There was no need to go through much trouble to assemble a Mecha here. However, Death Planet is undeniably the largest waste dump in the world.
Over the years, many countries have discarded their rubbish and experimental objects here. Some defeated countries even discarded their weapons here for destruction under war treaties during the early peacekeeping era. Destruction, however, was merely a euphemism for discarding. In recent years, no humans have bothered to visit Death Planet since robots have taken over the job of waste disposal.
However, digging for treasures wasn't merely a random search. Feng Yi had planned to focus on areas where the defeated nations had discarded their machinery and electronic waste products. For this goal, he had specially acquired numerous detection tools and excavating machines.
Feng Yi had some hesitations about entering the area with bio-mimicking waste, as one could never be certain about what lurked within those piles. While abandoned bio-mimicking weapons wouldn't pose too many issues, there had been past instances of diseases caused by parasitic bacteria. This was why he had made the decision after much deliberation.
After spending two days in the area, Feng Yi had compartmentalized a significant portion of it into zones of industrial waste and electronic machinery debris. He decided to focus mostly on the latter, having heard old rumors that if bio-electric type machinery was abandoned for several years without losing power or having its main brain chip physically damaged, it would still function normally.
Others may not be aware, but Eggy is the best example of this. Therefore, Feng Yi, with this expectation in mind, decided to focus on machinery.
After two days of searching and observation, Feng Yi had narrowed down his target. The only remarkable location in the nearby area was a site with enormous waste heaps.
Unfortunately, the harsh conditions on the Death Planet were too extreme for even him to conduct extended searches. Particularly at night, when the temperature dropped to negative 110 degrees. Regardless of activating the Storm Stance to isolate the cold, Feng Yi could only maintain his operations for about 3 hours. After the 3 hours, his limbs would begin to stiffen.
After two days of excavation, Feng Yi was yet to find anything. He had come across numerous bio-mimicking Mechas. Some of the solar-powered machinery which had lost their judgement capabilities seemed to have picked a fight with him, almost costing him his life.
A bio-mimicking self-propelled artillery with a caliber of 250mm was especially devastating. It left no stone unturned as it fired. When the cannon fired, the entire world would know.
At the time, Feng Yi was operating his excavator, working tirelessly. His physical strength was on the verge of exhaustion under the severe cold. Unexpectedly, the weapon had thermal detection, and it fired without hesitating. The blast from the cannon not only destroyed Feng Yi's excavator, but also triggered a collapse of the surroundings. With such harsh conditions, even Feng Yi could only exert a limited amount of his power. In the end, he had to escape the site hastily and dismantle the self-propelled artillery into pieces.
This self-propelled artillery, nicknamed Clapping Tiger, was a track-type reconstruction. Its exterior resembled a tank — it was an old, discontinued model by the Federation. Feng Yi had no idea why it was still active.
Feng Yi thought things could not get any worse, but on his way home, he encountered mutated Sky Flies — indigenous creatures of Death Planet. These creatures were essentially flies, whose genes, left by an unknown country on Death Planet, had evolved powerfully over time. The Sky Flies had turned into monstrous creatures, becoming one of the distinctive species of Death Planet.
The Sky Flies were huge — about the size of two people. Vibrations from their wings created a noise resembling that of a fighter jet. In a fit of rage, Feng Yi picked up a 2-ton shovel and swung it upwards. The force of the impact obliterated the creature and sent it hurtling into the unknown.
As a top-tier fighter, Feng Yi could easily swing a 2-ton weight, maybe even a 20-ton weight, for hundreds of meters, as long as he used the right grip and power. But then Feng Yi realized that he had accidentally thrown his excavation tool into the unknown.
For a miner, losing his excavating shovel was like a virgin losing her chastity, a man castrated, or a driver losing his license.
Although Feng Yi was highly skilled in machinery repairs, it was for this reason that he was determined to drag his shovel out of the collapsed heap of machinery. He knew he could assemble an excavator, but in a moment of impulsiveness, he used the equipment to hit the fly.
Now the self-propelled artillery was disassembled, the excavator was destroyed, the fly was outed, and even the shovel was lost. Feng Yi eventually sat on the cold ground, his face reflecting nothing but despair. Was it so wrong to lament over this mistreated young man? With a pure innocent stare, he continued to gaze at the piles of useless metals before him.
All these misfortunes were the result of the self-propelled artillery. As the hard reality sank into the young child's heart, Feng Yi suddenly felt that the night wasn't as cold as it seemed. To his surprise, the rear door of the self-propelled artillery weighing 30 kg fell right onto his head as the cold wind blew, but he remained unaffected, as if there was no more love left in the world.
