Marvelous Mecha

Chapter 254: 247

"Kid, you sit tight and wait to chalk up some merits." A voice echoed from the speaker, then the mecha moved on.

Feng Yi felt that fighting wasn't a good man's game. It was better to talk and take peaceful actions rather than resort to violence, as it was disgraceful. If things could be solved peacefully, it was better to avoid conflict.

In the following half hour, Feng Yi tricked wave after wave of people, quite happy about it. Due to their eagerness to merit, the imperial soldiers selfishly chose to keep the false news to themselves rather than share it with surrounding soldiers. This enabled Feng Yi to freely wander around, successfully hoodwinking others.

Feng Yi had passed the radar watch to Augustins. Surprisingly, everyone in the vehicle was astounded that the moment the boy jumped off the Iveco, all the pursuers behind him ceased their action. From the radar watch, they easily noticed that some pursuers would head towards Feng Yi's location and mysteriously change their course. Though they didn't know how he'd done it, they were sure he'd managed to fool everyone.

Cheers erupted from the vehicle. Even Augustins had a smile on his face, but he was also worried for Feng Yi's predicament, hoping for his good luck.

At this point, Vivian was practically bursting with anger. She stomped her feet on the floor of the vehicle. What the hell were the Saudi soldiers doing?

Elsewhere on the battlefield, the amount of imperial mecha appearing in two different locations was steadily increasing. It reached a point where it caused confusion among the troops. "What's going on? Weren't we supposed to fan out? Why is everyone huddling in one place?"

"Apparently, an intelligence soldier said there might be clues here."

"What! He told you the same thing? Was he without a mecha?"

Before they could finish speaking, another group of defeated imperial soldiers appeared in the distance. They had spent all that time searching for nothing, exhausting themselves in the process. It only then dawned on them that they'd been fooled. They were infuriated with the lies the boy spun so effortlessly.

Feng Yi was wandering further along the path of trickery. He was feeling elated about his potential as an actor. But his jig was up when the sixth mobile soldier squad asked for the operation code.

Feng Yi frantically asserted that the operation code didn't matter, what was important was seizing the enemy. Seeing that the imperial soldiers showed no reaction and stood there like dummies, Feng Yi swiftly went on the offensive. He swung around, pulled out his sniper rifle and fired bullets, thus bringing his period of deception to an end.

The imperial soldiers immediately counterattacked, the rapid burst of gunfire echoing across the plains.

Whizz, whizz...

Feng Yi vanished from his spot.

"Quick, he's over there!"

A second later, he appeared behind the enemy mecha squad.

"I saw him, he's over there again. Turn around, turn around quickly."

Right after firing two bullets, Feng Yi lept again and vanished, leaving the enemy soldiers scratching their heads in panic. His speed was like lightning, making it nearly impossible to hit him. He was as agile as a monkey.

Feng Yi's skill was evident during the top 800-meter disappear-and-sneak event. With a 800-meter radius around him, he was able to completely avoid visual detection. To track him, you could only rely on satellite tracking, which showed a storm of battle energy enveloping him.

Feng Yi didn't dare to be careless when facing the Saudi mecha types. He zigzagged, sometimes slowing down to hold them back, other times running off completely. As the number of Saudi mecha increased, soon reaching several dozen and even hundreds, Feng Yi decided to abandon his efforts and run. Continuing this standoff would not make sense to him. He figured that there were only two possibilities for Iveco's current situation: either they would get caught by the Saudis or they would meet up with the federal group army as a commander with no troops, the latter being the more likely scenario.

And sure enough, reality didn't stray too far from his predictions. In the morning of the same day, the ragged Feng Yi popped up at the federal provisional camp. He had already shaken off the Saudi mecha group and arrived before the federal rescue armies did. Angela, Augustins, Blanche, and even a bunch of war journalists were waiting there to greet the hero, snapping continuous photographs.

Regardless, the war journalists were just taking pictures. The images wouldn't be broadcast until they returned to the federation. Without the Star Domain Broadcast, the star domain which was scarce on strategic resources wouldn't spend a ton of it to transmit such high-definition information.

The group of officers saved by Feng Yi, who belonged to the original armored infantry division, attempted to run up and give him a warm hug from a distance.

Contrarily, Feng Yi was expecting warm embraces from young girls, not the smelly old men. He bobbed and weaved through five to six of them, leaving them all stumbling about inelegantly. The meeting was filled with cameras capturing the amusing scene, leaving everyone else confused.

Angela, standing a distance away, saw Feng Yi. Her pretty face was filled with incredulous delight. My god! She thought that the legendary brave soldier would be a stocky, experienced middle-aged man. She hadn't expected him to be younger than herself. The shock Feng Yi brought her was nothing short of enormous, and that was despite her having read some of his records. Seeing him in person was even better than reading his records.

"So you are Feng Yi." Angela smiled sweetly, her look filled with affection.

"Yes, general." Feng Yi's face showed a trace of exhaustion. As he walked by, he gave a wave, which shocked everyone present.

Angela didn't seem to mind his behavior. "I've already learned about your deeds from the reports. Very impressive indeed. From today onwards, I'll be working with the old general to plan the strategy." Angela glanced at Augustins, then said, "So, his soldiers will also be my soldiers. Is there a place where you'd like to go?"

"I will obey the organization's arrangements."

"It's okay, you can speak your mind."

Upon hearing this, some clever officers and even some reporters chuckled. Angela was obviously showing a lot of respect towards Feng Yi. A soldier whose abilities exceeded the rank of veteran like Feng Yi was something every clever commander would know how to handle.

Feng Yi's next words were jaw-dropping. "Well, I am used to being lazy. If possible, I'd like to enjoy more freedom."

"Hmm, such as?"

"Sleep as long as I want each day, no disruptions, freedom of identity, use any mobile soldier and have the right to modify or experiment on it at will. As for what else... well, I'll think about it."

"So, you're just trying to take advantage of the situation. Angela's face darkened slightly, and thought, I don't even have such privileges, what do you, a mere soldier, want? "Feng Yi, I think you're too tired. Go back and rest." Angela said with a smile hanging at the corner of her mouth.

Looking at Feng Yi's exhausted figure receding in the distance, everyone present was left at a loss for words...
