Marvelous Mecha

Chapter 246 Captain's Decision!_1

Inside the camp of the Xius Highlands Empire, sleep-dreaming officers were awoken by the repeated alerts of Heavenly Communication. The messages were relayed up the ranks by units. The news quickly reached the ears of General Hagrid.

"General, unknown individuals have infiltrated the camp and killed the sentries."

"General, unknown lights spotted 20 kilometers northeast."

Before that message ended, another one came in: "General, the whereabouts of her Excellency Vivian, including Augustins and 25 other enemy commanders, are unknown."

"What did you say, Vivian is missing?"

"Yes, general."

Upon hearing the news, General Hagrid could no longer keep calm. The urgent call to assembly shattered the tranquility of the camp. The general himself directed the forces to fan out towards the source of the light.

Hagrid refused to believe what was unfolding before his eyes. It was inconceivable that the tightly guarded Saudi soldiers would be infiltrated silently by enemy forces. What even scarier was that the enemy had managed to abduct their commanding officers? But the undeniable facts laid bare before his eyes left him speechless.

Commands echoed non-stop outside the camp: "Line up, move out towards coordinate X at maximum speed."

The ground shook repeatedly. The Empire soldiers displayed the decisive execution of a wartorn tribe. Their fierce quality caused their marching steps to be uniform and neat. In an instant, a Mecha swarm headed toward the light source at a speed of 400 kilometers per hour.

At the same time, the roaring energy car sped past the lawn like a runaway horse and disappeared into the other end of the night. Amid the intense shaking of the vehicle, the soldiers' hearts rose to their throats. Everyone could feel the tension in the atmosphere.

After a while, daybreak was underway, and the headlights had been set to turn on two minutes ago. That meant the Saudi Mecha swarm would inevitably be coming towards them. If they continued without stopping, they would catch up with Iveco in less than 20 minutes. In this race against time, wisdom and luck played crucial roles.

On the bumpy ground, Iveco couldn't increase the speed to the maximum, but the mobile soldiers were another story. Everyone was worried about being caught by the Saudis. However, worrying wouldn't solve the problem. This was the best strategy drawn up after everyone's reassessments.

Augustins stared hard at the electronic map, "Feng Yi, how long until we pass through Stan City?"

"About 1 hour and 30 minutes- two days ago, I received word that the rear units of the Federation had fallen at Big Macs. As long as we pass through Stan City and proceed towards these coordinates, we have a high chance of encountering support from the Federal Army."

Upon hearing this, Vivian became somewhat flustered. She was clueless about the Federation's landing on Big Macs two days ago. If they crossed into a zone under the control of the Federation, wouldn't she, a senior Saudi general, become the first young hero to be captured since the beginning of the war? As the third-ranking figure on the Saudi's list of famous generals, Vivian couldn't bear to imagine the humiliation of returning to her country once the war ended.

"If you let me go, I can guarantee your freedom and safety in the name of an Imperial Knight. Just let me go."

Augustins chuckled cunningly, "Hehe, what if we don't let you go? We'd not only be safe but also have a bargaining chip, right?"

Vivian furrowed her brows, struggling to counter, "You should be aware that the success rate of this escape isn't very high..." Yet before Vivian could finish her sentence, her face suddenly turned mischievous as Feng Yi's radar started to vibrate, sounding an alarm. "Imperial Mecha swarm detected 50 kilometers away, repeating…" the radar continued to issue warnings.

They had just barely left the Saudi frontlines when a squad of 20 Imperial Mechas closed in to just 47 kilometers away. Feng Yi quickly turned the steering wheel in an attempt to increase the distance from their pursuers.

However, not even 5 minutes later, another ten-man Mecha squad appeared on the radar to their rear. Feng Yi quickly turned again. Within 3 minutes, everyone in the vehicle was thrown into chaos. The prior calmness was abruptly shattered by heated debates about which direction could bypass the enemy's pursuit.

After repeatedly changing directions and discovering more Imperial Mecha squads, Feng Yi concluded that the enemy commander was an incompetent idiot. The enemy was blanketing the area in a fan-shaped search pattern, ignoring the light source entirely. Feeling that his intelligence was being insulted, Feng Yi decided to outsmart them.

For now, they were lucky to have escaped due to their radar's scanning range which was far greater than the Imperial Mechas'. As time passed, Imperial Mechas would be detected more frequently until they were spotted by an Imperial Mecha squad. At that point, it would be the Saudi soldiers' naked eyes, not the stormscanner, that detected Iveco first.

"Who can drive? Take over for me."

"I can." A young staff officer quickly came forward.

"Sit in my place and head straight towards this coordinate. Don't change direction anymore. I'll hold back the Imperial Mechas."

"Are you out of your mind? You can't possibly succeed on your own." Augustins couldn't bear to see such a promising young star of the Federation throw his life away so recklessly.

"There's no alternative - don't worry, I won't die that easily." Feng Yi said firmly and decisively, "Just follow this route without stopping. All I need is your trust. If it comes to it, you can use her as a hostage." Feng Yi gestured at Vivian.

Despite initially being attracted to Feng Yi's bravery and responsibility, Vivian rolled her eyes at him upon hearing this.

"Hey, you brat, I order you to…"

Before the general could finish his sentence, Feng Yi jumped out of the energy car. He calculated that he could easily overpower ten or twenty Imperial Storm Mechas since they were in hot pursuit, and therefore likely lightly armed. He was not worried about heavy firepower. Even if he couldn't beat them, Feng Yi believed that few could catch up to his speed when he was escaping.

Although the strength of Imperial Mechas was vastly superior to the scrap metal Scorpions, Feng Yi's equipment had also advanced and been upgraded. During previous battles against Scorpions, his lack of stamina had more to do with his vengeful mood than his capabilities. Now, he felt light-hearted as he entered the battle with no rank or authority to worry about. As long as he aimed for the weak points of the Imperial Mechas, each shot would land hard, and each strike would bring critical damage.

In less than 7 minutes, Feng Yi encountered the Imperial Mecha squad 40 kilometers away unexpectedly. The ten-person, lightly-armed Storm Mecha squad was somewhat confused by the unexpected blockade. They were short on time and wouldn't bother about him ordinarily, but it would be a different story if he had valuable information.

"Which unit are you from? Why are you obstructing us?"

"I'm an intelligence officer assigned to Stan City to assist in the investigation of this incident. Five minutes ago, I spotted three Federation Assembly Mechas heading in that direction." Feng Yi pointed northwest. Seeing the Mecha squad hesitant to leave, his expression turned cold as he added another comment, "Hurry up! Every second counts."
