Elvis swallowed the white rat without hesitation. He seemed unsatisfied after the first, so he instantly grabbed a second, chopped it in half with a knife, and tossed it into his mouth without a second thought, leaving those around him stunned.
Damn, he was truly going all out. Even though the glasses-wearing was obviously reluctant, a man had to do what he had to do. There were things that forced you into a corner with no possibility of retreat. He couldn't betray his fellow man, so now, he had to grit his teeth and face it.
"Man, I never thought you'd be able to eat that thing. You tricked me pretty good." Although Glasses complained, he didn't hesitate in his actions. He painstakingly stripped a white rat clean before forcing it down his throat with difficulty. The sensation was like gnawing on a bitter pill or swallowing needles.
"Heh, good things come in pairs. Let's have another one so we can get our energy for work. Let's get ahead of those bastards quick. What do you think, bro?"
"I don't think so. Tell you what, I am not as ambitious as you, but, since I already ate one, I might as well have another. There's no point in being scared of eating one more, let's do this." Glasses looked even more miserable than if he were crying; his twisted face was full of pain.
"Haha, real manly, bro. You're the second asshole I've met since coming to Wind Thunder. This rat, I'll have with you."
Glasses waved his hand, the hunger he felt in his heart was more intense than his physical wounds. He almost spat out the rat meat he was half way through eating, forcing himself to suppress the nausea. "I can't take any more, bro. If I eat any more, I'm literally gonna puke."
Weirbo, watching the Light Screen, appeared calm, but inside, he was overjoyed. In fact, he had been watching the actions of the soldiers in secret. These young men who didn't bother posturing were commendably courageous and straightforward. They didn't seem like trainees at all, but rather like veterans straight off the battlefield. If this trial ended successfully, he would definitely award the soldiers a collective merit to encourage them.
As the old ghost quietly enjoyed himself, his brothers would not be able to detect his sly smile. All eyes were focused on the two teams. Mu Tou's team still had three members, while Elvis's team was already half-ruined. The unconscious Xia Xinru was receiving treatment. The two of them didn't plan on waking her up. After all, she was rather frail. Perhaps it would be better for her to sleep until the survival test was over.
After eating the white rats, the two teams left quickly, not forgetting to wave goodbye to everyone before setting off.
The remaining people couldn't sit still any longer. If those guys could do it, so could everyone else. Not everyone was missing arms or legs, so what was there to be afraid of? Immediately, half of the people rolled up their sleeves and started doing the same.
Meanwhile, Elvis's team had already covered some distance. As the team continued to move forward, they left multiple markers on the trees along the way. These were for Xia Xinru, and they were quite skillful. Whether it was the time or the markings, everything was very clear. Although they didn't want Xia Xinru to wake up early, they were torn about acknowledging her true worth. If Xia Xinru woke up, they would want her to be able to find the team.
Because they had replenished their food and water along the way, the two of them could keep going. On the road, they discovered that Mu Tou's team was always maintaining a delicate distance from their team.
Elvis didn't understand what those guys were planning on doing and he didn't have time to think about it. But he had to reach the remaining two coordinates as soon as possible to get the final information about the secret camp. The three coordinates were all relatively distant from one another. It would be tough to visit them all within three days.
Suddenly, they were called to a halt by someone from Mu Tou's team not far away. "Hey, wait a second."
"What's up?" Elvis asked.
"From what we observe, you guys are heading towards the X-coordinate location, right?"
"What do you mean?"
"Let's not beat around the bush. We're heading in that direction as well. If we all have the same destination, we might as well join forces and make the journey together. What do you two think?"
Since the matter had been brought out into the open, hiding or disguising it didn't make sense anymore. Elvis looked towards Glasses. "What do you think?"
"Well, you're the team leader. You call the shots, and I'll follow them obediently."
"Alright then." Hearing him say this, Elvis did not refuse and nodded. "Let's agree beforehand, though. Supplies won't be shared."
"No problem." That person looked towards Mu Tou, "Boss, is this alright?"
Mu Tou was a straightforward person and didn't seem to have any opinions about joining up.
Both teams agreed quickly, and the two groups combined. Their goal was the coordinates at Area B and Area C. Due to the distance, it would be quite a stretch to reach either Area B or Area C within three days. During their journey, the few members who were in the discussion predicted this. The important factor to performing well in the outdoor survival test was undoubtedly exchanging information.
As is widely known, the three coordinates were all in different directions. Before reaching every coordinate, there would be a clue about the secret coordinates at the camp. In other words, the only way to find the real secret camp was to have accurate positions for all three coordinates and mark them on the electronic map. A tiny error would result in a huge mistake.
Fortunately, everyone was going in different directions. Every coordinate was reached by dozens of teams or more. This circumstance could serve as a great bargaining chip for exchanging information.
Two hours had passed since leaving the camp, and everyone's feet were about to give in. As the group hurried along while endlessly discussing the plan, they felt the searing pain on their skin. The group decided to rest for a while when the sun was at its highest. From 12:00pm to 1:00pm, this was the hottest part of the day. Breaking under the big sun was obviously not the wise move, so they decided to find a place in the deep grass to escape the heat.
One minute, then ten minutes passed... In the quiet jungle, the scent of green grass added a touch of sleepiness to their tired bodies. Some were already sleeping. Some were occasionally nodding off, seemingly about to collapse at any moment. Even the usual steadfast Mu Tou was getting drowsy.
"Boss, how much water do we have left?"
"More than half a pot."
"Oh, alright, this should be enough to last us till tomorrow." The speaking voice was weak, sounding somewhat off. Mu Tou glanced at him casually, his heart suddenly tightened. He noticed the speaker's lips had turned purple.
"Hey, what's happening to you?"
The sound of rushing up to him woke everyone up. "He's been poisoned. Quickly, give him the antidote."
Though they didn't know what bit him, everyone agreed that giving him the universal antidote was the correct thing to do without a doubt. Everyone didn't want to abandon their comrade, but they had no other options. Mu Tou reluctantly took out an injection from his backpack. With each push of fluid, the man looked slightly better.
"There's danger everywhere. We can't afford to stay any longer. Let's..."
Mu Tou nodded in agreement. After the injection, he carried the poisoned man to continue the journey. Suddenly, his plans were interrupted when Elvis placed a hand on his shoulder. "Mu Tou, put him down. Let's go."
